    Thanks for the explanation. I agree that 2-3% at 10% is a good thing...I'm not climbing competitively, just srt and occasionally ddrt. I've benefitted from the "bounce" on a number of occasions...also if in a 75' crotch with a basal anchor the "stop" after a free-fall is shared over 150' of rope. Looking forward to the new offering from Teufelberger... prob similar to voyager?

    I agree dave..im vert new to srt...come from 90,s blakes and i currently use hitchclimber ,and hitchhiker xf...my favorites..drt...whats a great rope with some bounce but thicker ..like vortex hot..thinking of trying vortex sd dry .the vortex feels like rope knots excellent and is thicker 24 strand..however im 160 165 with gear on ..what do you recommend? Or do you recommend useing 2 lines accses and work line...i have yale focus, bluemoon, ivy,and petzl flow 11.6 all of wich are great but realy thin im going on 50 and wounded i like thicker ropes subtle ropes ??? Thanks dave

      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there, passed your question on to Dave and he replied "Vortex would be fine if he wants a thicker rope, I would probably avoid the SD as it changes the characteristics of the rope quite a bit." Hope that helps! Feel free to reach out with any other questions.

      @@WesSpurTreeEquipment so the regular vortex will be OK in wett smokey mountains conditions...I usually use focus or bluemoon but it's little thin ..to grip..I'm about 160 so ???

      No worries, questions are great@@Sethhaun78 . The main benefit of the SamsonDry coating is going to be the lake of water uptake and reduced weight. I don't think Samson has published anything about it actually making the rope more durable.

    I am very new at this tree climbing hobby and I happen to buy 2 (150' each ) 16 straights ropes from a south Florida dealer. One is bright orange and black the other bright green and black. Do you happen to know who may had made ropes with these description?

    • @WesSpurTreeEquipment
      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arbormaster Hawkeye is bright green and a darkish gray, but that's a fairly popular color scheme so no guarantee. We don't carry an orange and black 16 strand either, so its possible it was a brand we don't carry. I'm not familiar with all of the manufacturers unfortunately!

      Normally in kernmantles you can find a smalll tape in the core of the rope with the rope information regarding rope manufacturer, model and year of manufacture. Take one end of the rope and split open a couple of inches and you will see it. Of course you will loose those couple of inches of rope in that end.

    Interesting video and thank for sharing! This is very good baseline tech info for people interested in tree climbing. Man if you guys are falling more than 5 ft below ancor on slack line, a fall arrest system would be a must surely? Damn sore falling without an active deceleration device. The rubbish harnesses we use in the oil industry (guys without rope access certs) will set a guy unconscious after 5 minutes hanging. It's a serious HSE concern. Nice info on stretch of ropes. Have any rope though plus a fall arrest system? Guess more expensive :0/

  • @kivaswander5537
    @kivaswander5537 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much would a 6 foot fall hurt an static rope? Would it likely cause injuries?

    • @WesSpurTreeEquipment
      @WesSpurTreeEquipment  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Falling on any Arborist line 6ft would hurt- they're not meant to absorb fall damage.

    • @leolibre19
      @leolibre19 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A fall above 3ft in a static line without fall arrest equipment or shock absorber could be fatal. Six feet is the maximum fall permitted by OSHA on a line, After ther shock loading ia so high it will destroy your spine.

      @@WesSpurTreeEquipment I ordered the magazine about 3-weeks ago. I got a good bit of the basic stuff already, but I want the right rope for climbing. I bought a $40-120' rope off eBay, hahaha, not on my life. I did test it with a 200lb limb from the back yard. Good for tying down loads on trailer & etc. Practicing and studying in my backyard and my own trees. Thanks for your response!
