They are definitely squirmy ones and very picky eaters so it will be a chore but glad I know now thank you.

It depends! If you have 3 ferrets, and you are testing often to keep an eye on insulinoma, then doing it at home can be much cheaper and more convenient. A single ferret's blood test at a vet can sometimes cost more than the entire blood test kit. Now imagine when you have more than one!!
this TH-camr users Wysong are used to feed my ferret that but I recommend ziwi peak although it is a cat food it only has meat in it. It has everything that your favorite would need in its diet.

I have no idea I've been trying to figure this out myself! The reviews on Amazon for the alphatrak3 are saying that the 2 is way better but some people say Alphatrak 3 is better its soooo confusing!!
Hey! New ferret parent here. :P Quick question, I've heard some negative things about the salmon oil that you use in this video.. I hear ferrets should only be fed a teaspoon of this spread throughout the week. is that true and what are your opinions on it? Thanks!
Like any food or treat, every item will have the potential for downsides if misused. The biggest concerns with salmon oil have to do with it going bad/rancid or feeding too much of it. This can easily be avoided by: refrigerating, buying a smaller bottle, smelling it each time you use it, and not adding it to food that will be left out. If you are concerned about the pump, you can cap it off with a little bit of saran wrap. Honestly though, in moderation it's a perfectly safe oil alternative that has widespread usage throughout the ferret community with little if any issues. We personally use salmon oil as a healthy treat, and it is fantastic at doing its job! Hope that helps answer your concern ♥
Hi! We just found out one of our ferrets has developed insulinoma (all of you posts about Moose led us to this deduction and we took her to the vet). We bought one of these per your recommendation and then I came here to find the video. I feel so bad because I have pricked her paws so many times, but I've tried all the tips and cant seem to get enough (if any) blood to come out. Is this something you went through with Moose, and if so, do you have any other tips for us? I've heard you can test their ears too but that also worries me. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Many ferrets in the USA develop an insulinoma, so this can be a great way to keep an eye on this illness. However, it is completely optional to do it at home, as your vet can do this during a visit if you feel they are at risk. It can be very difficult to do it right, hence this video is our preferred technique!

Good video overall but you should NOT push or squeeze on the toe bean to press the blood out, that releases lymphatic fluid which dilutes the sample

Try increasing the number on the side of the pricker and also prick on the side of the paw.
This is old school. There are devices to test their saliva.

Human monitors won't work unfortunately, it needs to be a pet one that has been approved for use with ferrets by vets!
