    After going on board a Russian Ship "destroyer" in Norfolk many years ago that came to visit. The first thing I saw that made me think that these ships were death traps were the lack of compartmentalization. In other words, not enough areas to seal off in case of flooding. wide open spaces with very few water tight doors unlike American ships. One could tell that preventative maintenance was not in their vocabulary.

    • @jeffreykalb9752
      @jeffreykalb9752 2 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      The ship was destroyed by two Ukrainian Neptune missiles. It was then scuttled in deep waters.

    • @FirstLast-di5sr
      @FirstLast-di5sr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      I was thinking the same thing.
      They should have been able to seal off enough of the ship, counter flood to prevent it from rolling over, and pump out everything else long enough to get the ship back to a port.
      They'd probably be better off giving credit to the Ukrainians instead of admitting how poorly designed the ship is.

    • @drpainglove3389

      I believe I remember seeing a report that Russian/Soviet surface vessels were 'glass cannons' that were basically expected to, in the event of a war with NATO, expend all of their munitions to do as much damage as possible before they are sunk.
      So they are way overarmed, way under armored and I'm expecting that survive ability was not a priority with these ships.
      Now I'm not an expert so i can only regurgitate what I've heard, but can you imagine how the Russians must feel if the Ukrainians really did sink this ship?
      I mean it's one thing to die gloriously in battle against your hated foe NATO... They won't even call the invasion of Ukraine a war.

    I love that Ukraine released a new stamp of the Moskva with a Ukrainian soldier giving it the middle finger with "Russian warship, go f*ck yourself" just 2 days before they sank it. Ukraine needs that kind of morale boost right now.

      How much more pathetic Russia looks that it can't take over a country with untrained, ill disciplined soldiers that are carrying away Russian tanks with tractors because they've run out of fuel! LOL
      "that also barely have any supplies."
      BUT ENOUGH ABOUT RUSSIA'S ARMY ba dum chk* the supplies we do know the Ukrainians had 'before' the war started included Bayraktar drones and Neptune missiles. The exact things that did this. But if the USA or NATO gave them equipment better than that to do this WE CAN ONLY DREAM.
      Funny that Russia claims the ship only sank because of a storm, boy such a desperate looking sea in those photos hahahahahaha. Also funny that Russia is now moving their fleet further away from the shore into the Black Sea from satellite photos. Shorelines must cause ammo stores on ships to explode...
      PS: Russia's nukes don't work. You have to service them yearly to make them work. Russia hasn't serviced those things in decades. Their nuclear stockpiles looks just like their army, likely worse.

    We currently have no idea how deep the Moskva sank. (UPDATE). US military reports the ship sank in 300 feet of water. It is a Soviet era 40+ years old ship. The Back Sea is up to 7000+ feet deep. It would appear recovery is economically unfeasible. While we currently don’t know if the fire was the result of an accident or the result of a Ukrainian weapon (UPDATE). Now we know. Two Ukraine missiles sank the $750 million ship. Either way it reveals a continuity of weakness in the Russian military. Morale will continue to sink with Russian ships.

    In the meantime back in 2005 for test purposes the US Navy purposely sank a retired USA Supercarrier the USS America. The aircraft carrier was pounded with explosions for four weeks. After detonating all the planned explosions the aircraft carrier refused to sink and they had to board it and set more explosives to finally sink it. The design of that older supercarrier is still classified. They used what they learned from that test in the designs of the new Ford Class Supercarriers.

      The USS America was a fine ship but she didn't have fuel or munitions onboard during the scuttling mission. Looking back to WWII shows that most carriers were destroyed by the combustion of their own fuel and munitions. Just one or 2 bomb strikes was enough to sink some carriers because it set-off the onboard munitions.

    Losing the ship "Moscow" is not as bad as if Stalingrad (now Volgograd) had been lost to the Germans in 1943 - but no one can say it is not a massive defeat for Russia! What if Ukraine can sink even more of the Black Sea fleet? What will Putin do then? Ukraine has done quite well for a nation with no navy! More important, they have captured the hearts of most of the whole world and controlled the narrative from the very beginning. The war in Ukraine already appears like another David and Goliath battle, so brutal and unbalanced that it even shook the Swiss out of 200 years of neutrality to support Ukraine. Now the whole world is rooting for the good guys and doing everything to pull the rug out from under the international villains, the Russians, and one month into sanctions they are already being felt in Russia. There is no truly happy ending now for either nation, all because of an badly conceived and ill-advised "special military operation" to teach a wayward region of the former Soviet Union a political lesson!

      Let it be known to you that sanctions against Russia have done the most harm to those countries that have imposed these sanctions. In Russian stores, everything is sold the same as it was before, we have not increased tariffs for electricity, water, gas and utilities. We have a meager increase in gasoline prices, the economy is working without failures and stops. And we will do everything to be absolutely self-sufficient. The lying West should know its place.

      Russian jet fighters are great for attacking defenseless cities and civilians...in Syria and now in Ukraine.
      The Syrian Network for Human Rights: Russian airstrikes killed around 5,700 civilians, about a quarter of them children.
      SNHR: "Russian attacks have killed more civilians than either the Islamic State or the Syrian Army."

      I doubt most are shot down they’ve yet to use a fraction of the Air Force because of the stinger missiles

      Stingers have mostly forced the strike aircraft to medium altitude so probably reduced accuracy of their strikes, only CAS and Helos are vulnerable to stingers. Most shot down is just more nonsense internet meme propaganda.

    The ship didn't sink. It's performing an 'underwater naval operation'

      No they had one! And it has been in docks for years and seems to get more broken each year. Something with money mysteriously disappearing, fires, and what not...
