After playing Forces for the Switch and having a really mediocre experience, I went back to my attic and picked up my Wii U to fill in my boredom. Searched through my game collection and found Lost World laying there. I wanted to give the game a try again so I booted it up. And can I say I had a BLAST!!! I may be 4 years late, but this game is way better than Forces and Colors by a long shot. I loved battling Zavok in sky road and using the parkour to maneuver around the stage. Graphics were stunning as usual. The thing about this game is that it’s so underrated, and people can’t seem to understand how amazing it is because of the sonic fan base. Sure it had its flaws. But I loved how I could explore in a fast paced tone. Stereotypical villains sure, but their boss fights were all different and. I think that really benefited the gameplay. Sonic fans just didn’t know what they were getting themselves into. Sega even warned them that some may not like the game and to not trash it out on them because it was for a new audience. But they didn’t listen and have the game shitty scores. All in all. This is EASILY, my 2nd favorite 3D sonic game with Generations being number one. It had its flaws but I loved it so much. 9/10.

The story is about sonic and tails getting stuck on a lost planet, saving critters but eggman hires 6 people to hunt sonic. Then they suck life out of a planet so sonic has to reverse the machine. Pretty straight forward.

Lost World's an interesting game. Honestly this game is polarising just like Unleashed was (infact I'd say moreso) but unlike Unleashed I feel there's more potential to work with in terms of core mechanics as the game is a lot more involving. Parkour conceptually is probably the best thing to happen to Sonic's moveset (infinitely more interesting a mechanic than the boost). In a couple of years, once Sega begins to develop the formula further, people will most likely appreciate it a lot more. I personally enjoyed Lost World more than a good number of previous 3D Sonic games, though there's still a lot of room for improvement. Just takes a different mind set imo.
I'm starting to realize that the problem with Sonic games aren't the games themselves, but the community. Sonic "fans" are always complaining about something, making it look that each and every Sonic game that comes out is the worst game ever. Seriously, lighten up.
I do agree with you that a lot of the time the fans complain alot, and even I am somewhat guilty. However, while they indeed bring up a lot of problems that most times aren't even such a big deal, a few that are brought up are still reasonable.
Still looking at this game you can't tell me it isn't good. Yeah, perhaps for many it sucks and many will say it's silly but the game itself is a great sonic game and it did not messed up that bad when it came to get out of 2-D...in fact it did great compared to other titles o.o. In any case it's a fact that you guys are kind of nitpickish when it comes to sonic titles o.o...it's true, some of your concerns are reasonable ones, but still...you should be grateful that it did not happend the same to sonic as it did to megaman or to the chrono trigger series u_u...or...castlevania...wich recently turned into a reskinned god of war :c
The worst is that this game is so fresh and original (even it has a little mario galaxy vibes) and even if you're not a sonic fan, you can love this game for its gameplay, but the ones who called themselves 'sonic fans"(not all of them) just don't accept originality , they forget that sonic is in a first place a VIDEO GAME and it must contain new mecanism to be enjoyable and to not bored people over time. By saying that sonic games are bad just for the heck of it (except sonic boom, which was boring as hell) Sega don't even know what to do anymore to please everyone, except making a "sonic adventure 3", which will never happen of course, I don't know what would actually satisfy everyone personally.

I adore this game with lots of things they did. but there are some cons, The cutscene is garbage, The bosses are bad, The gimmicks can kiss my ****** , The 3DS version can go to hell and the level desgin is a bit *Confused.* At least its better than forces and my 10th favourite.

I honestly like this game’s story. Yes a lot of things go unexplained, like where the Zeti come from, how Tails and Eggman know about the Lost Hex, but I like the simplicity of this and the interactions between all the characters are really well written and interesting to watch in my opinion.
This is a legit GOOD game. Many people were disappointed with how different this game was after Generations got it so right. But when you decide to look past that, you have a truly fun Sonic experience. Sonic is slower, yes, but he's not SLOW. He runs at a decent speed and his handling is the best in the 3D games. All the other Sonic tropes are there, rings, badniks, color, fun! Everything that made Sonic Sonic is here. I'm not saying it's the best, and it isn't better than Generations, not even Colors, actually. But see here: Sonic Unleashed was the best game of the dark age of Sonic, not counting the portable ones. And if Unleashed was OK, and Lost World is quite clearly better, then that would make Lost World good. It's as classic Sonic as we're going to get in 3D.

People hate on this game, but I have it and I gotta say its probably the most underrated sonic game ever. The only things that are really lacking to me is the storyline and the boss fights can be a bit weird. Honestly though I think this game is much better than colors and just as good if not better than generations. I think the core gameplay itself is just as good as the adventure games. I think the adventure games are a bit better though because I like the storyline and voice actors a bit more. Either way though I would give this game a very solid 8.5/10

Anyone who complains about SLW's level design is just terrible at the game. Each stage is a complete cakewalk when you know what you're doing, which it seems a lot people don't. And am I seriously the only one who remembers this game has a third level of speed, a.k.a the spindash? You can't criticize a game for lacking something if they already have it. That's like me bashing Call of Duty for having terrible aiming but not bothering to use the quick scope option. The story isn't even that bad. Yeah, it's a very simple story but it isn't painfully bad like Sonic 06's story. But none of that even matters, we all know the main reason why people hate this game. It's different from all the other Sonic games, and fanboys always freak out when they change things.

***** Yeah I know what your talking about. People complaing that the game is too hard always confused me. I never gotten a game over in the WII U version (and keep in mind that this was before Sega patched the game). As for Sonic being too slow people are too used to Sonic Generations were Sonic had god-like speed. Sega slowed Sonic down because people were complaining about problems with controlling Sonic. So they made Sonic easier to control and people are still complaining that he is twitchy to control properly (the WII U version controls fine, the 3DS version Sonic was slippery).

Classic Sonic fans, Advventure Sonic fans, Modern Sonic fans, and Sonic Boom fans. The thing about fanbases like Mario is that the only deal with 2 gameplay styles one 2D and 3D. Sonic has multiple versions of both 2D and 3D and we have people arguing over what was better. Know if people were not being so picky on what works and try to find some enjoyment maybe they wouldn't argue so much. Although I do wonder if the Mario fanbase argues this much.
This was a fun watch, and I can see the charm. It's got beautiful art direction, and the music is phenomenal. But the story just sucks. If you have these magical, genie-like creatures, why just give them power over technology? Why are they so easily outsmarted by Tails at the end? Couldn't they just mess with his tech? Their boss battles also look like brief cuts in platforming more than anything, for the most part. Many look too easy, and can be taken down in mere seconds. The draconic boss has a couple interesting fights, but the rest really fail to stand out. And to have Eggman as a final boss after all that kind of undermines the story. Was Eggman just acting the entire time? Why would he try to control them again if he hated them so strongly? This could have used a lot more time in development. It could have been a great game. It's not terrible, but adding poor control to this, and it seems very flawed.
Wow, I didn't know they kept creating new sonics. I used to play the old series in sega genesis when i was a child. How nostalgic to see Sonic's world again. :P This one looks beautiful.
Okay, so my overall review of this game. The animation in the cutscenes was always choppy. Pay attention to how fast the eyelids move. It isn't smooth at all! The cutscenes were usually cheerful and funny, but it also had dark parts that kids usually wouldn't think of hearing in a Sonic game. Tails' eyelids were always awkwardly posed too. But this stuff can pass me by. What matters is gameplay and environment. First, environment. I love how it's a natural environment that any Sonic character would willingly live in. It reminds me of the first Sonic game because it has like 4 frames looped. It makes it seem like they tried to make the characters and what they stand on stand out more. The gameplay was great. Not perfect. I love the run button, and how you control the game, but the wisps make this just worse then what i'd anticipated. Also, the Eggman pairing wasn't in any other Sonic game, just in the shows, so it's kinda cool, but pointless to the story. If you just removed Eggman from every cutscene it would still be just as good. Sega just worked too hard on that. People say that this ripped off Mario Galaxy, but they did it in a different way. Story, and gameplay are way different. Overall I think Sonic Lost World gets a rating of 7/10. That's an enjoyable rating. I highly recommend this game to every Sonic fan who isn't a bitch about what a game company does.
In my opinion, this is one of the best Sonic games I have ever played. This game showed several amazing things: 1. This game went or a more classic feel. While I initially felt this would be a bad idea, the game pulled this feat off with great precision. 2. This game has some interesting mechanics. While people may say 'OHH SUPA MAWEEO GAWAXY WIP OWF CUNFERMED!' what really shone out for me was Sonic's control and the level layout. Sonic's control was good and the Spin-Dash was a joy to be using. The levels were challenging, some requiring the utmost of care to stay alive. 3. HARDCORE PARKOUR! No Comment 4. A Nice Balance of speed. When it comes to Sonic's speed, a nice balance or ridiculous fast are my favourites. This game did it magnificently not have so much a rush around with boost every 55 seconds per minute. This game FELT faster (and probably is faster in most cases) than the Sonic Boom games because in those games (which obviously suck) you would be stopping every 5 minutes do some over gimmicky puzzle or boring fight. Personally. I like this game. It's colourful, the opening graphics in the first scene are beautiful. They finally gave tails a voice actor that makes him sound mature considering his character's role. The gameplay is original and quick paced at most points. I'm not a big fan of the running animation, but it's only a small detail and Amy's voice really annoys me, which again, is only a small detail. Each boss is different and original. The soundtrack is upbeat and fun. It's just overall a fun game.
No problem I don't mind lost world to be honest. It was made for the wii u and for the wii u. That's why it has such a radical design change. It's colourful, vibrant and the music is so upbeat

First, Takashi Iizuka himself admitted copying Mario and pandering to its fans. Second, half of this game is utter lazy programming, with overabundance of awkward 2D sections or gimmick stages, like the snowball, flying and sand sliding stages. Third, acvording to an interview, they wasted like a year and half at modelling and breaking up Windy Hill Zone Act 1. And apparently, this game was started right after Colors on PC, before being ported to Wii U. And where is the effort in this ? Try to look at it as a whole : a 3-4 hour long vapid experience based on half-working gimmicks, that has barely any replay value, that was written by you-know-who, and that tries very hard to be light-hearted and nostalgic when it isn't. Man, I don't care what anyone says this game is awesome, the speed is just right for a mixture or exploration and still going fast, music in windy hill is good, and the 3ds version is and will continue to be the only majorly 3d sonic game. And while the parkour is hard to grasp the idea is nice and to be honest the main goal is to speed up gameplay. The cutscenes and voices are also impressive.
Wtf was wrong with this game? It looks perfect to me...with the exception of boss fights. It had some really good throwback aspects, including: the flickies, some of Eggman's robots and just the whole feel of the levels. "Sonic is too slow" not really, he moves just fine and there are levels centered around him moving fast, not to mention the speed button (which I feel should be a series staple imo) it leaves room for exploration, something that hasn't been done in a while. There's nothing too completely wrong with this game, and with the addition of crossover DLC, its a really cool buy. By now I'm sure the price has dropped a bit, so I'll definitely look this up, even if the price hasn't dropped.

O.o My guess is that fans of the modern Sonic games with the boost (Unleashed, Colors, Generations) were upset that SEGA removed the boost in Lost World after getting it juuusttt right in Sonic Generations, and so they decided right then and there that they would hate on Lost World for all eternity because you can't move as fast as you could in other games. :P I really can't think of any other reason. The parkour wasn't as good as it could've been (But not at all bad.), and the story took a pathetically horrible dip in quality at the end, right when it was getting good. (Although the rest of the story isn't half bad, imo. Could've been better, of course, but it wasn't anywhere close to a dreadful story.) But that's about all I can think of that makes this game bad! I don't think 2 minor flaws makes the whole game bad!

Lost World's an interesting game. Honestly this game is polarising just like Unleashed was (infact I'd say moreso) but unlike Unleashed I feel there's more potential to work with in terms of core mechanics as the game is a lot more involving. Parkour conceptually is probably the best thing to happen to Sonic's moveset (infinitely more interesting a mechanic than the boost). In a couple of years, once Sega begins to develop the formula further, people will most likely appreciate it a lot more. I personally enjoyed Lost World more than a good number of previous 3D Sonic games, though there's still a lot of room for improvement. Just takes a different mind set imo.

I'm starting to realize that the problem with Sonic games aren't the games themselves, but the community.
Sonic "fans" are always complaining about something, making it look that each and every Sonic game that comes out is the worst game ever. Seriously, lighten up.
I do agree with you that a lot of the time the fans complain alot, and even I am somewhat guilty. However, while they indeed bring up a lot of problems that most times aren't even such a big deal, a few that are brought up are still reasonable.
Still looking at this game you can't tell me it isn't good. Yeah, perhaps for many it sucks and many will say it's silly but the game itself is a great sonic game and it did not messed up that bad when it came to get out of 2-D...in fact it did great compared to other titles o.o. In any case it's a fact that you guys are kind of nitpickish when it comes to sonic titles o.o...it's true, some of your concerns are reasonable ones, but still...you should be grateful that it did not happend the same to sonic as it did to megaman or to the chrono trigger series u_u...or...castlevania...wich recently turned into a reskinned god of war :c
The worst is that this game is so fresh and original (even it has a little mario galaxy vibes) and even if you're not a sonic fan, you can love this game for its gameplay, but the ones who called themselves 'sonic fans"(not all of them) just don't accept originality , they forget that sonic is in a first place a VIDEO GAME and it must contain new mecanism to be enjoyable and to not bored people over time. By saying that sonic games are bad just for the heck of it (except sonic boom, which was boring as hell) Sega don't even know what to do anymore to please everyone, except making a "sonic adventure 3", which will never happen of course, I don't know what would actually satisfy everyone personally.

I honestly like this game’s story. Yes a lot of things go unexplained, like where the Zeti come from, how Tails and Eggman know about the Lost Hex, but I like the simplicity of this and the interactions between all the characters are really well written and interesting to watch in my opinion.

This is a legit GOOD game. Many people were disappointed with how different this game was after Generations got it so right. But when you decide to look past that, you have a truly fun Sonic experience. Sonic is slower, yes, but he's not SLOW. He runs at a decent speed and his handling is the best in the 3D games. All the other Sonic tropes are there, rings, badniks, color, fun! Everything that made Sonic Sonic is here. I'm not saying it's the best, and it isn't better than Generations, not even Colors, actually. But see here: Sonic Unleashed was the best game of the dark age of Sonic, not counting the portable ones. And if Unleashed was OK, and Lost World is quite clearly better, then that would make Lost World good. It's as classic Sonic as we're going to get in 3D.

People hate on this game, but I have it and I gotta say its probably the most underrated sonic game ever.
The only things that are really lacking to me is the storyline and the boss fights can be a bit weird.
Honestly though I think this game is much better than colors and just as good if not better than generations.
I think the core gameplay itself is just as good as the adventure games.
I think the adventure games are a bit better though because I like the storyline and voice actors a bit more.
Either way though

Anyone who complains about SLW's level design is just terrible at the game. Each stage is a complete cakewalk when you know what you're doing, which it seems a lot people don't. And am I seriously the only one who remembers this game has a third level of speed, a.k.a the spindash? You can't criticize a game for lacking something if they already have it. That's like me bashing Call of Duty for having terrible aiming but not bothering to use the quick scope option. The story isn't even that bad. Yeah, it's a very simple story but it isn't painfully bad like Sonic 06's story. But none of that even matters, we all know the main reason why people hate this game. It's different from all the other Sonic games, and fanboys always freak out when they change things.

***** Okay I will admit I do like this about Sega they will actually change up the gameplay every now and then. In Sonic Boom it isn't even the same as Sonic Lost World. Although I will also admit that while Sega does make new gameplay styles I wish they could make them fun. Not many people liked Sonic Lost World's design and controls. If the level design and controls were good than people would enjoy it.
***** Yeah I know what your talking about. People complaing that the game is too hard always confused me. I never gotten a game over in the WII U version (and keep in mind that this was before Sega patched the game). As for Sonic being too slow people are too used to Sonic Generations were Sonic had god-like speed. Sega slowed Sonic down because people were complaining about problems with controlling Sonic. So they made Sonic easier to control and people are still complaining that he is twitchy to control properly (the WII U version controls fine, the 3DS version Sonic was slippery).
***** I guess people want a master piece with every game though and not after 3 game. Anyways the Sonic fanbase will be divided into 4 peices. Classic Sonic fans, Advventure Sonic fans, Modern Sonic fans, and Sonic Boom fans. The thing about fanbases like Mario is that the only deal with 2 gameplay styles one 2D and 3D. Sonic has multiple versions of both 2D and 3D and we have people arguing over what was better. Know if people were not being so picky on what works and try to find some enjoyment maybe they wouldn't argue so much. Although I do wonder if the Mario fanbase argues this much.
This was a fun watch, and I can see the charm. It's got beautiful art direction, and the music is phenomenal.
But the story just sucks. If you have these magical, genie-like creatures, why just give them power over technology? Why are they so easily outsmarted by Tails at the end? Couldn't they just mess with his tech?
Their boss battles also look like brief cuts in platforming more than anything, for the most part. Many look too easy, and can be taken down in mere seconds. The draconic boss has a couple interesting fights, but the rest really fail to stand out.
And to have Eggman as a final boss after all that kind of undermines the story. Was Eggman just acting the entire time? Why would he try to control them again if he hated them so strongly?
This could have used a lot more time in development. It could have been a great game. It's not terrible, but adding poor control to this, and it seems very flawed.

Wow, I didn't know they kept creating new sonics. I used to play the old series in sega genesis when i was a child. How nostalgic to see Sonic's world again. :P This one looks beautiful.

Okay, so my overall review of this game.
The animation in the cutscenes was always choppy. Pay attention to how fast the eyelids move. It isn't smooth at all! The cutscenes were usually cheerful and funny, but it also had dark parts that kids usually wouldn't think of hearing in a Sonic game. Tails' eyelids were always awkwardly posed too. But this stuff can pass me by. What matters is gameplay and environment. First, environment. I love how it's a natural environment that any Sonic character would willingly live in. It reminds me of the first Sonic game because it has like 4 frames looped. It makes it seem like they tried to make the characters and what they stand on stand out more. The gameplay was great. Not perfect. I love the run button, and how you control the game, but the wisps make this just worse then what i'd anticipated. Also, the Eggman pairing wasn't in any other Sonic game, just in the shows, so it's kinda cool, but pointless to the story. If you just removed Eggman from every cutscene it would still be just as good. Sega just worked too hard on that. People say that this ripped off Mario Galaxy, but they did it in a different way. Story, and gameplay are way different. Overall I think Sonic Lost World gets a rating of
7/10. That's an enjoyable rating. I highly recommend this game to every Sonic fan who isn't a bitch about what a game company does.
In my opinion, this is one of the best Sonic games I have ever played.
This game showed several amazing things:
1. This game went or a more classic feel.
While I initially felt this would be a bad idea, the game pulled this feat off with great precision.
2. This game has some interesting mechanics.
While people may say 'OHH SUPA MAWEEO GAWAXY WIP OWF CUNFERMED!' what really shone out for me was Sonic's control and the level layout. Sonic's control was good and the Spin-Dash was a joy to be using. The levels were challenging, some requiring the utmost of care to stay alive.
3. HARDCORE PARKOUR!

4. A Nice Balance of speed.
When it comes to Sonic's speed, a nice balance or ridiculous fast are my favourites. This game did it magnificently not have so much a rush around with boost every 55 seconds per minute. This game FELT faster (and probably is faster in most cases) than the Sonic Boom games because in those games (which obviously suck) you would be stopping every 5 minutes do some over gimmicky puzzle or boring fight.
SEGA tried something new and they knuckled it down.

Personally. I like this game. It's colourful, the opening graphics in the first scene are beautiful. They finally gave tails a voice actor that makes him sound mature considering his character's role. The gameplay is original and quick paced at most points. I'm not a big fan of the running animation, but it's only a small detail and Amy's voice really annoys me, which again, is only a small detail. Each boss is different and original. The soundtrack is upbeat and fun. It's just overall a fun game.

First, Takashi Iizuka himself admitted copying Mario and pandering to its fans. Second, half of this game is utter lazy programming, with overabundance of awkward 2D sections or gimmick stages, like the snowball, flying and sand sliding stages.
Third, acvording to an interview, they wasted like a year and half at modelling and breaking up Windy Hill Zone Act 1. And apparently, this game was started right after Colors on PC, before being ported to Wii U.
And where is the effort in this ? Try to look at it as a whole : a 3-4 hour long vapid experience based on half-working gimmicks, that has barely any replay value, that was written by you-know-who, and that tries very hard to be light-hearted and nostalgic when it isn't.
Unleashed is the last game where they put effort. This one, no.

There's literally no physics, since the run button makes Sonic run at a slow pace, and it’s slippery too. Otherwise, you can keep the Spindash pressed, which is a slower, nerfed Boost. And again, the Parkour is clunky and unresponsive.

Wasted effort. Spending more than year over a tubular Green Hill Zone rehash is a waste. And try to not mistake "effort" with padding. Again, this game is riddled with gimmick levels. And the overuse of 2D SCREAMS lazyness on a technical standpoint. And it's again a waste if all this "originality" of level design ends up being more tedious and annoying than anything. That and the fact that this game is awfully short.

Honestly, I don't think it's that good of a game. There was certainly some potential in there to be good (very good, in fact), but they didn't quite realize it.
Paraxade0 Honestly it IS a good game it has all the potential, but it's ALLLLMOST COMPLETELY RUINED... because of the damn motion controls, & oh my SANIC goooods why did u curse us with SANIC FORSAKEN MOTION CONTROLLLLS, Sonic Team ruins the experience with the wisps that are not necessary, & the rocket wisp is mandatory! BUT AT LEAST u can actually control it. Albeit an annoying setup that could be fixed with an update for a selectable option to play JUST with the Pro controller FOR ALL THE WISPS...! -_-
Paraxade0 I mostly agree with you but I still think it's okay. Like, slightly above Unleashed. Like "worth playing but not worth anything else" okay.

Man, I don't care what anyone says this game is awesome, the speed is just right for a mixture or exploration and still going fast, music in windy hill is good, and the 3ds version is and will continue to be the only majorly 3d sonic game. And while the parkour is hard to grasp the idea is nice and to be honest the main goal is to speed up gameplay. The cutscenes and voices are also impressive.
Wtf was wrong with this game? It looks perfect to me...with the exception of boss fights. It had some really good throwback aspects, including: the flickies, some of Eggman's robots and just the whole feel of the levels. "Sonic is too slow" not really, he moves just fine and there are levels centered around him moving fast, not to mention the speed button (which I feel should be a series staple imo) it leaves room for exploration, something that hasn't been done in a while. There's nothing too completely wrong with this game, and with the addition of crossover DLC, its a really cool buy. By now I'm sure the price has dropped a bit, so I'll definitely look this up, even if the price hasn't dropped.
Yes! Thank you! So many people hate this game with such a passion, and it makes no sense! I mean, at least this game is a sonic game! (Unlike boom, which is just ratchet and clank but with sonic.)
Well...I think it's because of the 3ds port if im not mistaken wich really hurts this game reputation o_o...well either that or many sonic fans just being a bit nitpickish XD
NekoSoren ...I'd be willing to bet it's the Sonic fans one. :P I'm a Sonic fan. A hardcore one, in fact! But I can't deny that Sonic fans tend to be too picky.
Like, it's the end of the world because Sonic's eyes are green. Or his arms are blue. Or he isn't as fast in this game as he was in that one. Or he's too fast. Or it's too glitchy. Or the story-line's bad. It doesn't matter what! Name a Sonic game and they'll find something wrong with it.
...But yet...they still call themselves Sonic fans? O.o
My guess is that fans of the modern Sonic games with the boost (Unleashed, Colors, Generations) were upset that SEGA removed the boost in Lost World after getting it juuusttt right in Sonic Generations, and so they decided right then and there that they would hate on Lost World for all eternity because you can't move as fast as you could in other games. :P I really can't think of any other reason.
The parkour wasn't as good as it could've been (But not at all bad.), and the story took a pathetically horrible dip in quality at the end, right when it was getting good. (Although the rest of the story isn't half bad, imo. Could've been better, of course, but it wasn't anywhere close to a dreadful story.) But that's about all I can think of that makes this game bad! I don't think 2 minor flaws makes the whole game bad!
