I’ve been collecting since 1978 when I was 6yo and how it all started was my parents being antique dealers as a hobby on the weekends lol poor Dad worked as a GM for a advertising company Monday-Friday and did antiques with mom on the weekend anyways when Star Wars came out they recognized that these would be worth something someday and saved ALL my boxes for all my Star Wars toys including the sticker sheets which I wasn’t a fan of putting on anyway and all the pamphlets & packing materials and this went on for years with all my toys during those wonderful 1970’s & 1980’s! My main focus was action figures BUT all my 3 3/4 figures could be mingled and played with together just like my 8 inch Mego & Mego knock off figures and my 12 inch GI Joe BUT never ever together 😔 lol I think that was my first sign of my OCD just like not wanting to put stickers on my toys because no matter how you did it there would be a crease or bubble or it would be off center and would drive me nuts lmao…. The second thing I collected was candy containers & I remember a neighbor giving me his sons Vietnam footlocker sadly he didn’t make it back from the war 😢 and I used it to keep all my candy containers in. I collected ones from the early 80’s on back to the 1920’s but I sold all of those in the late 1990’s I didn’t have as great as a love for those as I did my action figures which I still have almost all to this day along with most of my original boxes my parents saved for me 😉 I love how you mention your father over and over again either giving you items that where his or finding stuff in the wild because that was just like my Dad because till around the time he got sick the first time around 2003 him and mom would always be in the look out at garage sales and such and found me some amazing stuff inch it was a dryer box filled with vintage Star Wars I still remember that some of the figures had 25 cent price tags on them and ships where $1 here it came from a house that had 8 boys and that was amazing find them one of the last pickups was from a sale that didn’t even have anything out but Dad seen a Millennium Falcon in the back of garage boxed and asked if it was for sale and the lady said not really but somehow Dad came home with about 5 boxes of stuff and it was one of the best finds ever having 11 of the last 17 complete along with card backs to most & another 70+ basic figures and ships complete except for Leia Hoth who had part of her gun…. The best part of the video even though I never really got into him was when you mentioned “ROM” because it gave me a instant flashback to Friday night way back then coming home from the mall as we did every Friday after Dad got home from work going out to eat & spend my $5 allowance but that time as a lot of the time I went over budget and got ROM and I can hear my Dad as I sit here and type telling me “Don’t open him till we get home” & then “You had to open him before you got home” and then me looking for all the parts that fell on the floor and seat of the car lol those where some great days… Keep up the good work 😉
