StanleySimmons REACTIONS just shut up. Ok. Does it look like we are here to discuss Barbra? No. There are other incredible artists besides Barbra. Plus, this isn’t even a Barbra video. 🤣
With all due respect Judy Wins this hands down. Judy doesn't get cutesy, she sings it straight forward, and builds to the dramatic conclusion. Again she sings with her hands and her eyes. Shirley is all over the place with the tempo. It all boils down to a matter of taste. And my taste is JUDY.
As always Terry, your comments are intelligent, fair, honest true and always on the mark! Your comments are always very respectful and never mean or rude as others do sometimes. This why people respect, trust, believe and enjoy your many comments. Judy and Lena: How can anyone compare a hurricane or tornado to a thunderstorm? 🤔
I love Shirley who is amazing but Judy is the GOAT to me when at her peak.on this song her overall performance tops and the last few bars says one thing: Brava!
More warmth and emotion with Judy who acted every song she ever sang and her great vibrato, does not get much better than this. The live recording of Judy was from her TV series in 1963/4 amazing she was still singing so well, but not the period of her vocal prime in the 1950's
Judy wins....both great. Judy was so deliberate letting the drama within in the lyrics dictate where the melody and phrasing went. Insulting to put legend vs. Idol of the younger legend. Hindsight is always 20/20. Judy is the original. Not a great singer out there who hasn't listened and learned from her. Great, beautiful ladies..both.
Love them both, they both had their vocal strengths and weaknesses. I'm pretty sure Bassey would rate Garland as her superior. They were friends and Judy was a huge influence on Shirley apparently. This is definitely not the best version that Bassey has sung but it is Judy's best, particularly if you compare with the 1964 Palladium show. Comparisons are meaningless when you are looking at these two in my opinion. They both bring me great pleasure and that is all that matters ❤️
It is horrible to compare them. Bassey adores Judy and I think Judy liked her too. Of course Judy is the sentimental favorite but her voice does not compare to Bassey's in power or range. The featured performance is great but not even Bassey's best. I saw her perform "As Long As He Needs Me" in concert in 1997 in Hollywood and her voice was astonishing. The audience was overwhelmed.
Both good singers however Judy's interpretation of a song will never be match. Dame Shirley has a powerfully voice but singing is far more than showing off your notes. Judy gose to hell and back in every song therefore Judy wins hands down ;)
Judy's vocals here are on the more conservative side of things while Shirley's shows she can belt more powerful than any female singer in her era -- great dynamics! Why does it have to be a winner?
i think Judy could hit the same notes as Shirley and maybe surpass, the older Judy had great vocals but her vocals were godly when she was at MGM, i wish she did much more.
Why. This wasn't a real battle. It all boils down to personal taste. Again my taste says Judy. When Judy sings she's telling a story, not trying to be the loudest singer in the business. Loud alone doesn't make you a great singer, it just makes you loud.
shirley is really good, she can blow she has sone high points/ why battle/ why not enjoy but why have our singers iattles, appreciate the art/ shirley bassey was a big fan of judy and i think Ms. Garland felt Ms, BASSEY was a fine singer, look SHIRLEY can blow. if they were both living what a concert/ hey imagine, Whitney Aretha, Judy, Sarah, dinah, Shirley, Ella and R rosemary ( she could sing too - tickets 1000dollars a ticket can you imagine, what a concert, with with mort lindesy , count basie and nelson riddle and quincy jones conducting different segments/ would the egos even stand it. The audience would loss their minds,
Judy or Shirley. Shirley sang it well. But Judy you felt loved the lyrics of the song. (She most likely did in real life.) Judy moves you. For me it’s Judy
Both great just question of taste .... Judy more softer with a more beautiful tone though ..... the other is a hurricane , big large resonant voice which is technically perfect ...... for me both of them are winners
@@robertmonthe9750 Shirley has a hurricane of a voice. Too of them sang around the same range. Thgeir climax notes are B4-D5 They concentrated on the efficient range.. FULL NOTES.. No squeak notes... Shirley had a larger instrument probably the largest, even bigger than Pattii
Odumosu Olusegun we are saying the same thing ...... haha Shirley is an hurricane a very big resonant voice ....... you can’t compare her to patti.... her voice is far larger than hers .... all because of two different technics .....
Very different singers, Judy has a sweeter voice where as Shirley has a darker, more powerful voice. Judy couldn’t have sung opera but Shirley definitely could’ve. But Judy was also an influence for Shirley. Both are absolute legends 🙌🏻
I say Shirley. And don’t get me wrong I love Judy’s voice but as she got older her vibrato was all over the place honey. I couldn’t even understand what she was singing. When Shirley began with a clear distinct belt of just the first word of each phrase I was captivated. And when Judy put her hands up with emotion going into the climax I said and she can put them back down baby 😂.
Absolutely loath these kinds of posts. What's the point? Two great artists, enjoy them individually don't make out there was any kind of rivalry, that's just something you've invented. I have recordings by both and never play one, thinking of the other...why would I?
Judy is the original and you will never hear a vibrato and strengh like this again
Barbra

Judy wins hands down
No competition. Judy. The only singer who could make you feel true, raw emotion. She pulls you in and never lets go.
Judy has a naturalists to her voice...she just does it!. I love them both.

Judging by the comments, there's a clear winner. And quite rightly! Shirley is fab. But she's no Judy ;)
Two great singers.

JUDY ♥️
Bassey for me
Judy takes the most direct path from her soul to your soul.

Actually their ranges are pretty similar th-cam.com/video/3_ZVk_n-6FA/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Easy - Judy!
I love Shirley to dead 😭😍😍
Judy Garland is the best I miss her 😔

Orca Rift i personally think her vocals from the movie "a star is born" from 1954 4 years after the split with MGM are her best vocals
since all the so-called divas are battling the great dame shirley, one must assume she has the definitive edge. thanks.
Why. This wasn't a real battle. It all boils down to personal taste. Again my taste says Judy. When Judy sings she's telling a story, not trying to be the loudest singer in the business. Loud alone doesn't make you a great singer, it just makes you loud.
Judy was a bigger talent than Shirley. A better vocalist, too. But Shirley is great in her own way.
@@AnimeMovement I disagree. Judy couldn’t have sung opera, Shirley could’ve. Shirley’s voice is more dramatic and significantly more powerful
That's because many covered the same songs that Shirley did. That's it. It's not a battle.
@@crazycatpetera1404 I don't why you think singing opera is ultimate. Judy is a classical belter, she's not supposed to sing opera
Judy has the better singing technique while Shirley has the better voice. Enjoyed!
Different styles of singing but for me Dame Shirley comes out tops. Judy was great but would she have lasted as long - we will never know.
judy and shirley have different styles. i love them both.
They sound very similar, even not being relatives.

No one is better than Shirley Bassey, sorry.
Both Great. But Shirley is the one
