  • Our trailer is heavy AF, and the poor Kia Sorento struggles with a saggy bottom on drift days. Fortunately the nice people at Pedders have a big spring upgrade which will do the job nicely.

    Nice vid. I was looking for a lift kit for my Kia and thanks to you I found it.

    Plasma cutting off the nut was a stroke of genius. Also I love watching people work on a car with some rust and not losing their God forsaken minds.
    As for the suspension, if the spring is stiffer, the damper doesn't need to do as much work to slow compression, and it should improve shock life too I'd think.

    Excellent work! Just a thought 💭 How much would that have cost you if you took it to a main dealer garage?

    Softer shocks allow quicker spring movement and allow tire to get to the ground quicker to maintain traction.

    Hello friend, I have a question
    I have suplet ( lift kit ,but it hits, are the shock absorbers adapted? do you have a longer run?

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These were aftermarket shock absorbers. Not only springs.

    Why buying the coil springs the very same size in length with the one you currently have? Is pedders have quality springs?

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Much better - the standard springs would sag under the weight of the vehicle. Trailer weight would squash it to the bump stops. These springs are much tougher with a better load rating so the ride height was higher.

    How much does it raise the back end? I bought 2 inch spacers for the front and rear but that hasn’t helped the towing at all. Just wondering if I should remove the rear spacers while installing the rear springs. Also bought bilstean shocks for the rear trying to fix it. Going all out now.

      Around £300 for the kit. Made a fantastic difference. 100% worth it.

    Do you have or had a problem with oil dripping on the alternator?

      My 05 has oil drip from driversidevalve cover onto exhaust at rear of exhaust manifold. Driven regularly it's negligible, but if it sits a week you smell it burning.

    Aussie quality product , good choice . Should've put an Airbagman suspension kit in while you had the springs out .

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't seen those, do they increase the load rating even more?

    • @Ballarateast

      @@vPerformance night and day mate 👍 you can adjust the rear springs to level your load and improve performance . Easy to install , very cheap , don't have to remove springs. Airbag man is an Australian company but just look up Firestone air suspension for USA UK etc. Let me know how you go. Cheers

      Awesome! Have you seen any lift for the front end? We only did the back for towing

      @@vPerformance i have not. Pedders doesnt have a kit for my sorento either. I have a 2015, I think its even more hard to find one

      @@vPerformance Dobinsons and King Springs both still do front springs for the Sorento BL.
      Heavier duty springs on the back for towing make sense, but unless you're adding a bullbar and winch to the front, you could just get strut spacers for the front to lift it.
      Spacers are much cheaper, and neither spacers not springs will lift the drive gear any higher so the ground clearance will be the same still anyway.
      Just lifting the Sorento won't make it possible to get bigger tires under the guards though. 255/75 r 16 is as big as the wheel wells wit fit without cutting the guards up.
      But a lift does improve the approach and departure angles, which means you can get that little mountain goat on and off much steeper inclines than standard.

    What was the tongue weight on the image of the Sorento towing another vehicle?

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only 70kg! A real disaster-waiting-to-happen

      @williamgollatz1911 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vPerformance has that improved on subsequent years? I have a 2017 and just want to use a hitch carrier for simplicity instead of the expense of roofracks

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The later models definitely have a lower towing capacity overall - 2100kg vs 3500kg but I expect they are all capable of 100kg on the hitch

      @williamgollatz1911 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vPerformance the current models, North America, AWD V6, are stated to be 2268 kg and 159 kg (or 227 kg seemingly depending on where the vehicles were sold - Canadian manuals, get the higher amount, even though same SUV). I'd expect it to sag at these amounts, but have not seen one with that much on it yet. The general consensus here is to get air lift bags.

    Shockers will have a faster rebound and better durability but if they were stiff as well it would make for an uncomfortable ride.
    20k drift car springs for life!
