aw thank you so much for that 🥹 I'm happy you found my channel! I love making videos and sharing what I can. Congrats on being a new plant mama! It's such a rewarding hobby 🥰
This video did it for me. I hit the subscribe button! Your facial expressions remind me of myself. I know I would had the same looks. However, I really enjoyed watching your presentation. You explain the process and why. I feel your info will help me a lot on my new plant journey. Thanks 😊
Thank you for your videos ❤ I watch them when everyone’s asleep 😊 I would like a follow up videos on your plants I love how confident she is. She just cut some props.
Scales and mealybugs have waxy coat and/or shell. Even if the spray is effective, it cannot reach the bug. The tiny babies hide in gaps and roots. You just cannot see them. 3 years ago, I bought a small pot of Crassula Calico Kitten. After I sprayed and cleaned repeatedly, the bugs would show up in a few months, sometimes, half a year later. I live in zone 6b. I left the smallish hanging basket outside for the entire summer till December. When the temperature was only slightly above freezing, in my sheltered, isolated, under the deck location. The rain also freely flushed the soil. After that, the mealybugs did not come back the second year. After 2 years without any mealybugs, I claim victory.
Hey, Melissa. I know pests can be stressful but assume all new plants have pests. I do that and it is less shocking and I won't go though ups and downs of shock and sadness. Instead of would be shocked if they don't have pests and be happy and feels like a bonous. 😂
I definitely agree! Like these are plants and they’re not always perfect. In the real world they are not protected from pests. So just be happy for new plants first and worry about pests later.
No no no, horrible way to think if you want to maintain an indoor plant collection like hers. If you worry about it later, more likely to spread. She is doing everything right to protect her collection. Quarantine and treat is the best method to avoid a devastating pest development. I do however agree that especially imports, it’s normal and it’s all how you handle them. ❤
Melissa your mitrata is worth an arm and a leg, propigate and sell.Your new plants are beautiful and I know if anyone can grow them you can.I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.I also wish that scale away for you. They came looking really good.Congratulations on your new babies
Awww schucks I'm sorry your new plants have pests. I'm confident you will get rid of them. Tfs your new plants with us. The Anthrium is great, and I'm not a big Anthrium fan. Your the best... Thanks for sharing your plant life with us. An update on these plants in the near future would be nice 👍🌿🤗💛
Thank you for this video! I’m sorry the imports came with problems but I find it invaluable to watch how you rehab them. I tend to buy discounted plants from grocery and big box stores. They almost always have issues. This video was a big help! 😊
Yay, more plants but my favorite is Anthurium lol 🥰 I just got a Michelle x Zara x Besseae Aff “Bingo” today in the mail! I’m so excited lol. Thanks for sharing Melissa. Now I’ll watch the rest of your video lol.
I'm also paranoid about pests and it takes the joy out of getting new plants for me, too. I have to quarantine any new plant and treat it multiple times, in multiple ways, to feel comfortable. Sigh.
Me too. But I treat before they go to quarantine for up to a month. They’ve got their own grow lights. Then u treat Shriners going out into circulation.
I’m very anti overconsumption and feel so conflicted watching your videos! Especially all the frequent plant hauls😣 but I appreciate your content and have gotten a lot of tasks completed while your videos play in the background, so thank you!
Hi there! I have a plant shop so a lot of plants I purchased or have been gifted this year has been with that in mind. I propagate and grow everything I sell. I don’t think having a wide variety of plants for my shop is a bad thing. Also, if I get a new plant and I’m no longer interested in growing or selling it then I can easily put it up on my site. I’m in no way telling anyone to buy more plants or promoting over consumption. So many people comment that they love to watch my unboxing videos so they can get an idea of maybe where to purchase from or how people package plants. You can definitely skip haul videos if you’re not into them. This is my job and receiving plant mail is a part of that. I’m rarely promoting “stuff” or going TJ maxx shopping every day in my personal time 😊
I got a Hoya cutting that had no roots or stem. Exact same as yours. I put it in stratum and used a strawberry pin to keep it in and it rooted beautifully. Good luck with all your new plants and thank you for your content. Always enjoyable
Oh okay that makes sense haha. I came across a thread after filming that said it wasn’t any different but just a different name to market an albo. If mine makes it I’ll have to see how it grows compared to my albos.
Girl I love watching your videos. Especially those long ones!! 🎉 I don't mind commercials it's been showing a lot more i just watched 10 of them before your video. Commercials every 5 min to 10 mins into your video. Is this youtube doing? 😮
It seems like the moss must’ve been too wet for too long. I almost bet they’d be in better shape if the moss had been dry by the time you opened it. Good news I’m sure you’ll be able to salve the troubling ones, you got this! ❤ The synonym should make it with that one good root but in my experience propping them, I’d suggest not letting the nodes with leaves attached touch the water to ensure those higher nodes don’t rot. Aerials should pop out the higher nodes ones quickly, especially since it’s in a closed system.
If anyone can rehab those plants it’s you Melissa! Some are very pretty. Hope they survive their root decapitation lol! Keep us posted! Does your husband ever give you a hard time about the plants slowly creeping in around him lol?! 😂
Thank you! Haha I went a little crazy 😆🫶🏻 no he doesn’t mind them. Now if I took over the living area he might say something lol. He knows this is my job so he supports it!
Ever since I brought in mealy bugs on a tiger jaw succs, I've been paranoid about all plants I get in as well! I think it's good to be diligent, it protects our plants.
Hi Melissa, I’ love watching new plant mail. Beautiful plants, but sad you had to deal with scale. If anyone can fix them up it’s you ! You have such a green thumb. When you do propagations in a cup of water , how often do you change the water? ThankYou for sharing your videos. I learn so much.❤
Thank you so much! I usually change the water every 3-4 days if it starts to look bad and roots are rotting. I normally use perlite for imports but I think I'll keep them in water for the time being.
OMGosh!! That Anthrium AOS I want so badly! It’s a shame your Monstera had scale. I always thought scale was a lot larger than what you’re seeing, but I don’t know for sure. I would for sure keep that Anthurium no matter what even if scale. It would go into its own room for awhile.
Aw it's so silvery! I never heard of this one before but I looked it up and the blooms are really pretty. So far it's perked up quite a bit so I'm hoping it pulls through. Hoping you can cross it off your wishlist here! 💕
Love those dawn spray bottles you use. Will be looking for them as it’s hard to find a good sprayer. What is the portion on your mix with Neem/alcohol/castile/water?
Tiger is another term for the pattern veriation on it. Its still an albo just a difforent name. Its kinda a market ploy. But also people take it serious. Kinda like the monstera monster.
Scale is horrible. I am learning too. Why did you cut the roots off? I have never done that. Can you do a followup in a few weeks on these imports, please.
A lot of the roots were rotting but I think I was a bit aggressive this time lol. I usually rehab them in perlite and a lot of the old roots rot off as new healthy ones grow in. I also think I just didn't want to deal with the moss and scale. I just wanted to start fresh haha. I'll definitely do a follow up!
Hi Mel they sent you a ton of work, but if it was fast post, why were the roots so wet and rotty ? The Anthuriums are beautiful, if you can't save them nobody can ! Good luck, but I'm now feeling itchy ! 💚
Loved this video but won’t be ordering any imports any time soon! They couldn’t just make sure they send a TH-camr good plants?! So sorry you got pest plants again but still love watching the unboxing and rehab
Thank you! Aw I honestly don't want to get 'good' plants just because I make TH-cam videos. I'm happy to share what it's like getting plants imported and to make others aware of what to look out for. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this import. I think if I paid for them I would have been a little sad about the scale and root rot with the albo but I know I'm not expecting perfectly happy looking plants to come. The anthuriums look amazing. I think it's great that they have a hub here in the US now too. After a couple days all the leaves have perked up and so I'm excited to see how they progress 😁
Hi Melissa, you know what, this came to my mind watching you unbox. Throw all that polyfil away expecially the polyfil directly touching plants. Just a suggestion. I just don't take chances. I'm enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing your plant life.
I have 3 white tigers for more than 3 years now. I truly hope the root rot didn't reach into the stem, considering it smells so bad. This monstera type rot so easily during shipping, it's insane. I've lost two beautiful plants because no matter how I treated it the rot just continued spreading. 😔
I think it depends on the plant because I've seen some for more expensive than I would normally get here in the states. The specimens are a pretty decent size though. If you have plants on your wishlist that you really want and can't get them or they're too expensive it can be worth it but you are potentially dealing with those risks.
I was a little aggressive this time 😂 it depends on what you’re wanting out of it. You can have access to more rare plants usually at a lower cost. There’s definitely risks like potential pests or plants not making it but depending on where you purchase from they might have a live arrival guarantee if something happens. I would definitely check the website or reach out with questions before committing. I enjoy the process and don’t mind rehabbing plants so I think it’s worth it 😊
Maybe for the next unboxing you should have some pest spray and soap an water ready. Just in case you need it. Pest from other countries are stronger then ones here. And they are resistant to , chemicals from here. So maybe , just to be on the safe side, and so that you don’t take pest inside to your other babies. I’m so sorry you have that they accidentally send you scale 😮💨
Good point. I really never considered how dangerous it is buying imported plants until recently. I’ve been watching @junglecitizens and my husband is leading the effort in our area pulling out honeysuckle and tree of heaven which are very invasive. As plant collectors we need to be mindful.
Good morning. You might have to put on gloves on. & later change your clothes too. I would hose those plants down & . & put pest control on them. I'm always worried about pests when I order plants. You never know. But nock on wood I don't have any . Hopefully I never get them. But they are beautiful plants though. ❤🪴
I enjoy the process of acclimating and rehabbing them. The pests I can do without though 😅 I definitely wouldn’t put my time and effort into it just for free plants. I also think it’s educational to share the process of getting an import for anyone that is interested in it. I included a small update at the end and excited to see how they all grow :)
@@plantsbymelissa You were so happy in the beginning of the video then I felt sad for you because of pest and rotted roots. I had bought a few hoyas and a thanksgiving cactus from a local shop and noticed they had thrips a few days later. I love watching update videos and seeing the difference. I have never ordered plants online only bought them locally but I love watching plant mail.
Do not be sorry Melissa if I were receiving plants that “I didn’t ask for” and bugs came with it I’d be pissed. I would for sure not be buying from them.
It happens! Even getting plant mail from someone here pests can show up or our big box stores. I always try to be thorough with new plants I get and try to isolate them the best I can :) The scale was very tiny so you have to really look to spot them.
I think i would rather get plants in soil. I be afraid the moss gets mouldy. Thank goodness never gotten pests by plants online just fungal issues. Also alot of cosmetic damages. Instead the plants has been arriving nothing i get as advertised so been disappointed. Which no longer will from 2025 no more online such a waste of money.
Sorry about your online shopping experiences and that you don't get what is advertised. Most of my collection is purchased online and it offers a way to get more rare plants that you can't get at your local shops. I'm not sure where you're located but there's a lot of great and honest shops out there that take care of their plants and package well. I find plants often times at stores have pests and they aren't looked over that well. Shipping in moss is more cost effective and some places have stricter policies about plants being shipped in soil with import regulations and potentially bringing in pests that can affect crops.
Thank you!! It's okay haha. I think I always get a little paranoid when I first find them. I think it's some stress from all the previous pest outbreaks I've had and my collection is so big so I worry more about an outbreak 🙈
They honestly arrived pretty well as far as the foliage the anthuriums especially. Some rotting roots and yellowing is totally expected. Granted I left them outside for 2 nights but they’re doing well so far after cleaning them up and putting them in water. The albo is a little iffy with the stem rot though.
I’m a new plant mama and I cannot remember what search brought me to your channel but I am so glad that it did!! I love your videos and your vibe🫶 🪴💚

I have no doubt these plants will be beautiful in a few months being under your care.
Horay!🎉❤
I love the aggression and decisiveness. It really was smart (in my book). :-) I HATE (deplore) bugs too.
I would stick that hoya in perlite or stratum with a strawberry support pin "U"
Got these on an orchid, throw it out before it came in.
Alcohol and swabs. I would take them off as well if they are not to many.
You are so sweet.

I had bought a few hoyas and a thanksgiving cactus from a local shop and noticed they had thrips a few days later. I love watching update videos and seeing the difference. I have never ordered plants online only bought them locally but I love watching plant mail.
🤍🤍🤍
Do not be sorry Melissa if I were receiving plants that “I didn’t ask for” and bugs came with it I’d be pissed. I would for sure not be buying from them.
I hope you just appreciate the plant gifts you received instead of being paranoid about the pests.
If they send plants for an unboxing with a pest, that’s pretty bad advertising for them…
It happens! Even getting plant mail from someone here pests can show up or our big box stores. I always try to be thorough with new plants I get and try to isolate them the best I can :) The scale was very tiny so you have to really look to spot them.
I can not believe they sent gifts with bugs and root rot 😮. Thanks, but no thanks!
I could definitely do without those two things 😆 but it can happen with imports.
Pretty makeup, and I'm sorry for the pests experience. 🪴🪲
Thank you!! It's okay haha. I think I always get a little paranoid when I first find them. I think it's some stress from all the previous pest outbreaks I've had and my collection is so big so I worry more about an outbreak 🙈
Wow. As bad as those plants look, it looks like they just wanted to get rid of them 🫣 I hope they survive for you and no more pests
They honestly arrived pretty well as far as the foliage the anthuriums especially. Some rotting roots and yellowing is totally expected. Granted I left them outside for 2 nights but they’re doing well so far after cleaning them up and putting them in water. The albo is a little iffy with the stem rot though.
