  • Some Views while manouvering into the Port of Hamburg, on the Museum Ship Bleichen during the 2022 Harbour Anniversary Festival. Hence there are so many historic Ships there, as well as Police, Coast Guard and Navy Vessels. Originally, I just wanted to prectice Panning and Zooming a bit but decided to make that into a "real" Video.

Was recorded during the Hamburg Port Anniversary Festival, hence there's an unusual Amount of historic Ships there, plus Police, Coast Guard and Navy Vessel that usually aren't in Hamburg at all, except perhaps at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard. The Port itself has a rather uncertain Future, as it is almost 100 km (62 Miles) inland on a Tidal River. Despite being constantly dredged, the Water isn't deep enough for larger Ships. Large Container Ships can't be fully laden and depend on the Tide, large Tankers and Bulk Carriers can't access Hamburg at all. Sailing into Hamburg at the maximum possible Draft (≈15 m/50 ft) is a very tricky Manouver, as you have to "surf" on the Tide. The Tide takes roughly 4 Hours from Cuxhaven at the Seaside until it reaches Hamburg, sailing that Distance takes 5-6 Hours. Many other Places have tackled this by building new Ports right at the Seaside; e.g. Yangshan for Shanghai, which is in a very similar Situation; the Maasvlakte Terminals in Rotterdam; or London Gateway. But as of now, the Port still is too important for Hamburg, both economical and as Identification of the City, to even think about such Measures.
Originally, I just wanted to practice panning and zooming a bit as I had to scrap my Plans for making an Engine Room Video. You can hear the amazing Exhaust Sound here too though, as that and the Steering GEar Room are the only Engine Shots I got there, everything else must be postponed to next Year. Anyway, as the Weather and Light got better and better, I started to film the Port just for the Fun of it, before ultimately deciding to release that Footage.
You can actually see how I was still experimenting with the Zoom, as many Clips aren't zoomed steady. Reason is that my Camera (Sony FDR AX-53) has a customisable Wheel at the Front, which I set up for Zoom to zoom slower than with the normal T/W-Switch. The Sensitivity of takes getting used to though, long and slow Zoom Shots require turning over the Wheel several Times, which is kinda tricky if you have only one free Hand. I'll haveyet to see if the Sensitivity can be adjusted.

Despite what I said in Friday's Post I released the Video anyway. Reason is that TH-cam Analytics tells me, that many Viewers came to my Channel from watching similar Videos in the last four Days, so I want to see how that works out.
Bonus Clip: Container Ship Size Direct Comparison: th-cam.com/video/NL1T7nQoclg/w-d-xo.html
Terrible Light and shaky Camerawork in that Clip, hence I didn't feature it in the Video.

Sony FDR AX-53, with an External Microphone (Rollei Hear Me Pro). I use that Combination for most Videos, the 4K 60 FPS ones are with a GoPro Hero 8 with the Media Mod Accessory, sometimes plus External Microphone (Rollei Hear Me Mini).
