    I was struck by the team all racing over to stand over the body at the scene of the hit and run at the end....
    It became clear to me early on as I was binge watching the series last year that TT worked as a 3 day dig setup ONLY because of Geophys. John is in one sense the under appreciated star and unsung hero of Time Team....

      He's such a good geophis that he found a big blob when he geophised himself ^^

    John always manages to do a roast of time team hosted by channel 4. I can honestly say every single cast member on that show was my favorite for different reasons.

    Agreed, these lectures are clearly great, but also agree that they should be afforded much better recording in all departments; 'video' resolution, sound, someone, preferably 2 people, manning the camera(s). But otherwise fantastic, and thanks for allowing us to see them for free.

    Suggestion: post a split screen to show the slides thst John's referring to or (GASP!) have someone actually manning the camera!

    Is there a easily accessible book (or other source) on the early history of geophysics?
    I would love to see the evolution of the various techniques

    Great talk, let down by bad sound, appalling camera work, malfunctioning slide presentation, and too much light in the room. The same is true of some of the other talks. Brilliant professionals, let down by amateurishness! If they ever do this sort of thing again, I hope Dignation learn the lessons.

      At least there wasn't people constantly walking in front of the projector like what happened with some of the other guest speakers.

      It's a great lecture yet you gave it a thumbs down just because the camera wasn't to your liking, that's sad.

    I may be one of the few people who agree with mick in the fact that you have to remove the surface soil to get an idea of what is below, just like taking the lid of the buiscit tin to get a look of what it's holding we wasn't there at the time it was closed so we need to get inside and look or get a better clue of what it's hiding the ast amount of life in the early years didn't have metals to use and so humans existed for millennium with oly use of clay, wood, rocks all of which the metal detector cannot see so it's all down to look and feel of finds, Howard carter's descovery wouldn't have been found with the metal detector even though the amount of gold in his find was priceless.

      The thing is that geophys also detects burning and that is vital for older settlements. I think archeologists tend to treat geophys like a bit of a joke because it's a very inaccurate science based on guesswork and hunches but if anything, that's because you get too many potential results instead of none. If you've watched dozens of Time Team episodes, you quickly see they never find something where geophys saw absolutely nothing except an occasional shard of a pot.

      You need a mic on the presenter, a video and audio feed from the laptop so you can cut to a better picture. I've worked on conferences like this: th-cam.com/video/w5Ps-qc-1EQ/w-d-xo.html. All done with volunteers and we streamed them live on the net.

    • @theoriginalbabycub
      @theoriginalbabycub 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally they do mic the presenter.
