I’m going to try the “no weight” method tomorrow. The current in my favorite spot takes a 4 oz weight downstream. I’m thinking that it will present like drifting without a boat. $6 California gas has me fishing on alternate days and when we’re below 100. I’m mainly targeting catfish and live bait. I''m in San Diego,Ca... No rivers NO currents..... We have used weightless cat rigs forever ! My brain can't imagine using a weight ! 12-25 lb mono range ...
Braid is useless in sharp rocky areas... had 65 braid once... kept getting "snapped off" one day.... seemed like a diver was cutting my line.... then it dawned on me ..... Rocks ! I took a piece of braid and rubbed it on a rock on the shore... it broke like 4 lb test !! Never used it since...

Another thing that's good about using monofilament in that situation is the cost. You don't want to go breaking off that expensive braid a bunch.

Big bait no weight on a bobber and you wont get snagged as much. I'd keep 1 or 2 of those for fillet's to eat.
