- Okay I gotta admit it, I love Samantha Barks! I used to hate her in the 25th Anniversary Concert but now it's official: I'm almost a fan hehe. She's amazing isn't she? Of course she's no Frances Ruffelle but she's got it! Arguably the most impressive Eponine in recent productions I've ever seen/heard. Enjoy!
I don't understand why we have to compare all the Eponines, They are all amazing and there are plenty more amazing ones to come.

My favorite Eponine! So annoyed they cut a lot of her stuff out of the movie :/ I feel like without Eponine then a lot of the story is missing
No matter how many times I see On My Own Samantha's always makes me cry the most , to me Samantha is and always will be THE Éponine in my book :)
I know! I like Lea's version too but I don't love it like I love Sam's version she for me is the version of On My Own I will always think of when I think of Les Mis and Eponine
If you read the book, you will love more Samantha. She is the only one who had played this role and fits phisically perfect to the character´s description. Also I love her she is my favorite Éponine

Samantha Barks IS Eponine.
I love both Sam and Lea Salonga's versions of this song but Sam's always seems a little bit more authentic because she doesn't over-pronounce/enunciate words like Lea does. She seems a lot more like Eponine because of the way the sings.

I love her so much. She's pretty, although that's not why I love her. From what I've seen, she's nice and humble and caring. She has a beautiful voice, and I'm trying to train my voice like hers. She's my role model and I could go on and on about how awesome she is to me, but I think you get it.

I don't know why people are saying they don't like her. I didn't really know much of Les Mis until I saw the 25th Anniversary Concert on tv and she blew me away. Such a clear voice and fantastic acting. I didn't even know she was from a reality show, and I was still shocked when I heard she was. You would expect her to suck but she was fantastic! She was one of the stars of the concert and one of the people that made me love Les Mis.

Lea gives a more classical touch to Eponine, and performs it darkly; much that parallels to the book.
While Sam gives an innocent attack on Eponine.

Her voice is quite good, I just think that she occasionally "shouts" too much, especially when trying to show emotion. Inflection is more important than sheer volume in my opinion. Still, a very good Eponine and can't wait to see her in the movie! Thanks for posting this.
Lea Salonga is the still the best Eponine role and best interpreter of On My Own song! No need to dispute about it! You have to consider the the diction, pronunciation, clarity of the voice and with proper breathing and emotions..and that make sense and that's Lea Salonga!

I think there are a few things in play. One, often people are forever partial to the first woman they here play or sing a favorite role. Second, all stage actors/singers are pushed to stress diction and pronunciation, especially someone singing in a second language as Lea. Third, if you asked most professional singers, I am sure most would say Lea is the most technically sound singer of all the famous Eponine's. That said, I find Samantha's version the most beautiful and compelling, she is the most believable as the daydreaming martyr.
lea’s singing is undoubtedly spectacular, and compared to samantha, her voice is more powerful. most of the videos of their singing are little snips of the whole movie. as a song, lea’s better but when u take into account of the story-telling, samantha is more in touch with her character and focuses on delivering it to her viewers more than she focuses on singing. like i’ve seen her videos where she isn’t acting and she sounds different compared to when shes on stage. since we aren’t seeing the whole movie, its more about how good the song sounds, less about how good she delivered the character. i like both samantha and lea’s versions of eponine but for different reasons

Yep, that is definantly Samantha Barks, herself. Almost like watching the cast from the film in a musical play, actually, minus Russel Crowe and his seemingly painful singing.

She still is super talented in the part and whether you've known the show for 25 years or a day you should still see that this girl is wicked talented. If you don't agree then you g get a starring role on West End, a huge concert, and then the movie of it.

Be careful what you're saying about that 'reality show' she was plucked from - Rachel Tucker came from the exact same show and was actually placed below Samantha Barks. I really hope you're not going to say Rachel doesn't have control over her voice too.
Guys lea solonga is good but her voice like isnt strong at all... Her mix is so weak and basically sounds like head voice
Actually I find that she has a very strong voice. No need to diss, homie. In my opinion my favourites are Lea Salonga, Samantha and Carrie Hope Fletcher. Honestly I couldn't pick a favourite.
lea has a strong voice, its just how she portrayed eponine, weak. you should check her miss saigon because you’ll see hiw strong her voice is.

I still don't get why she is regarded as the best Eponine ever? Yes, she was in the movie, yes, she was in the concert. But, does that make her the best? This performance here was better than the movie. However, there are still a lot better Eponines that have graced the stage. No one ever seems to remember Frances Ruffle, Linzi Hatley, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Sutton Foster, & Rosalind James. Now those are some great Eponines! Still, Samantha is very good, but a tad bit overrated,

i hope you realize that this "reality show" you refer to was led by musical theatre people, and theatre actors have did it, and didn't place as high sam. Your comment would be more valid if was american idol, or the x factor, not something led by andrew llyod webber, a celebrated musical composer. And she is amazing, so i don't know what you're going on about, she may not be the best, but she is really good. So go watch some sutton foster, the queen of screeching if you're not happy with this

Oh My God. I didn't like her at all after watching the 25th Anniversary, but this is just... WOW. After watching A little fall of rain and A heart full of love I have to admit it. She is great :) (A pity that she shouts at the end...)

Nice try but this is a trying hard copycat version of Lea’s. Lea is the only one who understood that On My Own is a song of defeat.
Samantha Barks is not a copycat. I saw multiple actresses perform Eponine, some before Lea Salonga played the role and others after. All of them portrayed a character is pain.
