@@anthonyvasquezactorELR is one of those 60/70/80s family sitcom (the Barones) where there were traditional roles vs 90s family sitcom (Debra) where the times were starting to change.
Marie and Frank can’t seem to understand that just because Debra is a woman doesn’t mean she is not allowed time to herself. What’s worse is they try to convince Raymond that it’s a bad thing.
Ray shouldn't have gone over there. He agreed to give Debra the afternoon and he should have stuck with that instead of letting his family get in his head. He violated a trust that Debra put in him by going back to see what she is doing. I noticed that at first Ray resists how his family is and seems different, but most of the time in the end he is like them. Then Debra has to deal with him AND them.
If you watch the full episode you will realize that Debra herself told Ray to go to her parents’ house and take the children while she enjoyed her free time.
You'd think that Ray would take the kids to the park or the zoo instead of going to, of all places, the dysfunctional gruesome twosomes and their boorish son, relaying them that Debra needs quality time for herself. No wonder Ray is a mama boy's freak of nature. The codlings and needless affections he gets from his mother are the detriments that turn him into an ineffectual buffoon.
the reason sooo many marriages and relationships in general fail. people forget who they are, dont spend time with themselves anymore (or friends), then you get sick of each other because you need time to yourself.
Really?? That’s why? So the divorce rate being 49% is because ppl need time for themselves? Hmmm. ORRRRR how about the bigger problem is that out of that 49%, 70-75% of divorces are initiated by the woman. The problem is modern feminism. Traditional American family values are unfortunately becoming nonexistent. That’s the problem, not needing more time to themselves. 🤡
I agree with this. The last time I got out of a relationship, the realisation of how I'd lost the connection with my own self and the importance of it hit me like a bus
But then when you leave a woman alone for too long, she may use that excuse to cheat. I've seen and heard so many stories in the past where people who are on constantly on business trips or fighting for their country getting cheated on
I’m sorry but Debra is always doing something around the house, taking care of the kids, cooking and cleaning. Debra is always on the move, never truly able to get a moment of peace. I’m surprised she can get a full night’s sleep, getting proper rest. I know I have a hard time with how much everything fills my head. And the fact that Ray sees her from the window, she is crying. She is honestly never appreciated for all she does. Debra’s character deserves better. Thanks for uploading.
Yeah that is definitely true. It is just a show but when you think about it she doesn’t have much time to herself. Sometimes when I hit the wrong letter in typing something or something falls or whatever happens it makes me think of that scene in the episode where Debra’s parents separate and it goes to the scene she’s trying to find ally’s hankerchief and the draw comes out of the nightstand and Debra says a few Words and you could tell Patricia Heaton demonstrated true character aggravation.
Marie envies Debra for taking one lousy afternoon off because she can’t do that with Frank, he constantly orders stuff from her so she’s resentful towards Debra
Great writing and acting...what a combo!!! Remember the good old days when a TV series had more than 8 episodes in a season???...This was Season 4, Episode 20...
Just like no one could play Edith Bunker like Jean Stapleton, no one could play Marie like DOris Roberts!! One of the best sitcoms of all time. Brillant acting, writing, and directing.
Frank is right in this moment, for once. Marie is wrong. If a wife wants time to herself, it’s nothing wrong or bad about it. It’s just you give your wife her time to herself give her a relaxation day.
Still don't get how mental health was such a taboo subject that a woman would rather lie about why she needed time alone and away from the kids, and a man would rather bury his head in the sand than question it. How hard is it to say, "I'm feeling really overwhelmed and need some time alone. Can you take the kids to your parent's and give me the afternoon to just rest?" Sure, Marie would still balk and say, "What kind of mother doesn't gain energy from her kids and needs space?" but given that Marie's views on motherhood and being a wife are the butt of every joke, no one cares what she thinks.
to be fair debra isnt the type that would appreciate such a gesture, nor would she give ray the same energy. If he was swamped, or tired, or hurting about any thing, and said it to her, she would immediately turn it into a competition of why SHE is more deserving of being tired than he is.
It could be to fit in with marine and frank by agreeing with them he gets more attention from them It can happen A lot people will play along because being alone doesn't feel good in this case Robert agreeing with Frank and Marie gets him attention from them so he plays along then Marie says very Good Robby and Robert replies team effort so by agreeing he got the attention he wanted this is just what I think please don't go off on me
That's true, but let's be honest, he and the parents were really just screwing with Ray. Notice how Marie says "very good, Robbie" with a smile of pride after Rays storms off. Sure, they love him and are always there to listen to Ray when he comes over to complain, but they also find pleasure in making him crazy.
Frank: It is about closeness...about how much closeness you can take...about how close you can get to killing her before you kill yourself. at 1:16 LOL

I know its a sitcom but maybe this is the reason why so many couples get divorced? It’s unrealistic to expect 2 human beings to be together 24/7 for the rest of their entire lives. It’s a warped expectations of what a healthy relationship is.
Ray goes golfing, Frank goes to the lodge. Debra takes one afternoon and they all go nuts
