  • Twisted Colossus is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park in Santa Clarita, California. Originally designed and built by International Amusement Devices, the roller coaster opened as Colossus, a dual-tracked roller coaster, on June 29, 1978. It was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world and the first with two drops greater than 100 feet (30 m). Colossus became well known after appearances in film and television, including the box-office hit National Lampoon's Vacation and the made-for-TV movie Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park.
After more than 36 years in operation, Six Flags announced that Colossus would be closed permanently on August 16, 2014. Within two weeks of its closure, Six Flags announced that the roller coaster would reemerge in 2015 as a steel-tracked roller coaster named Twisted Colossus. It was renovated by Rocky Mountain Construction to feature barrel roll inversions, and a near-vertical drop. Twisted Colossus opened on May 23, 2015.

My absolute favorite roller coaster ever! I loved the original wooden king of coasters and always will. Twisted or otherwise, it will always be my beloved Colossus!

This was the first inverted coaster ive ever ridden. After riding it I can go through any inverted coaster like its nothing, and since its also tall, drops are not really a problem, I actually enjoyed the drop on this ride the most. I did not like the slow chainlift

I love the original colossus! Never been on this newer version. The original one would go backwards during Halloween time. It was so fun! Not sure if the new one does that.

I'm from Pittsburgh, and our wooden coasters were built in the 1920s. I'm sitting here wondering, "Why do all these other wooden coasters look like such monstrosities?" I mean, why so much wood. They all have that look, with side support beams and such. Not a bad thing, just not used to it.

I grew up riding the original Colossus. The structure itself now it hideous compared to the classic look of the original, but the ride is a blast.

I’m glad some people still enjoy these RMC redos, but for me this is a string of desecration. These coasters as they originally stood were often awe-inspiring works of art and simply needed the proper love put into them to maintain their ride experience. What’s going on NOW with Titan Track I totally approve of because they maintain the original layouts. Sadly this fad came first, and we lost some of the most original and gorgeous epic wood coasters ever made. One on the east coast being Riverside Cyclone at Six Flags New England.
Now they’re soulless and I guess mainly there to please teenagers. I love airtime, but when was it decided that thigh-crushing nonstop ejector into pinning restraints was superior?

I actually prefer the Old School Mighty Colossus when it Operated with The Single Buzzer Lap Bar PTC Trains from 1979-1986. AKA The Screemy Meemy Version in National Lampoon's Vacation. It was an Absolutely Awesome Airtime Machine!!! After The PTC Trains were replaced by those devilish fiberglass Morgan Trains, that's when Colossus took a turn for the worse. This version I refer to as Twisted Colossucks. The weakest of the RMC's

the original COLLOSUS was way way better than TWISTED COLOSSUS .i rode twisted colossus for the 1st time last yr , it doesn't live up to the hype , i rode the original colossus in 1984 when i was in the navy .IT WAS VERY VERY COOL !!!

@@grudgesgalore8666 Thank You!! I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels the same way about The Original Once Mighty Colossus!! I was in The Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton during the time you were in The Navy. And Thank You for Your Service!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Every time I visited Magic Mountain, Colossus would be the 1st Rollercoaster ride of the day, and the very last one of the night just as ride operators were about to close off the line. I can remember how much faster The PTC Trains would travel at night as well. Twisted Colossucks is Absolute Garbage, IMO.
