We're an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game - Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the 'world' that the designer is trying to create. OMG I had those noodles in Xi’an! I didn’t realise you could get them here in Melbourne!
I loved all the delicious Indian food and Thai food I had there. The one woman even opened her restaurant early and gave us some apps because we went back three days in a row.
Love the Melbourne coverage! and 100% with you with recommending the hot oil noodles from Biang Biang. My fav spot is Marche board game cafe on a'Beckett St (about 3 minutes' walk from Biang Biang). We run a weekly LGBTQ+ board game meetup (Rainbow Boardgames) every Thursday there, and they've always been friendly, the food is decent and the gaming collection is good - we'd love to invite you for a game if you're interested in joining us one day!
Lots of great coffee spots around the CBD! I love the vibe of Patricia coffee.

Thanks for that very special video! I hope to someday visit Australia again, but it's a long trip from Germany. I've stayed in Brisbane on a business trip back in 1996. After business was conducted, we spent some days on Magnetic Island. I really loved that trip and have fond memories of it!

Great video. I used to travel to Melbourne once a month for work, but haven't been back for a few years now, interesting to see how things have changed, but also stayed the same.
Not so long ago, we’d visit both Mind Games stores, Good Games, Games Laboratory and the one in the Arcade. Alas, the retail stores have dipped a bit. Milsims is my favourite, but it’s way out on the other side of town for us. Still, a day out in the CBD and a visit to Mind Games never disappoints

As an avid board gamer living in Melbourne, this was a really enjoyable video to watch! A great representation of our city! I, too, went on my first date with my now fiancée at ‘triple B’ (as I like to call it) many many years ago. Looking forward to more videos showing the splendor of Melbourne and the surrounding suburbs!
Oooh I love biang biang noodles! The food there looks so good and now I wanna go to Melbourne sometime! Also the stores have so much space there! Even the one you said was tiny looked big compared to our local store 😂

This brought back so many memories of my visits to Melbourne 7+ years back. It's one place that really felt great to visit, my wife and I will make it back again!

Awesome guide!!! Tabletop games are the best! They are hosting our Twilight Imperium Tournament on May 20th/21st! There’s going to be 40-50+ players fighting for the imperial throne! Maybe thinker themer can join us?
There's also Milsims in Mont Albert, just a few kilometres east of Melbourne.
I have family in Melbourne and used to visit every year and just revisited in October for the first time in 10 years. An amazing city. My tip might be with transport - the train system is great for getting to the suburbs but doesn't connect to the airport! The tip is though to take a public bus from the airport to Broadmeadows station and the train from there. Will save you quite a bit of money compared to the Skybus or a taxi.
Oh nice tip! Yes they are STILL working on the airport link (new train) 😅 the airport is quite far from the city!! I bet it had changed a bit in 10 years... glad you got to come back!
Watching this from the UK you realize how screwed up we are here in regards to food prices.

Great video. Melbourne is my favourite city to visit when heading across the ditch but has been a long time since my last visit. Love the Aussie Open, food and culture (and that crazy hook turn you guys do in your cars to avoid the trams ;) But next time I will check out game stores and try those wide noodles (mmmmm!).

I found Mind Games on my last visit to Melbourne and managed to pick-up Obsession and the expansions. Can't wait to visit Melbourne again it's my favourite city in Australia.

Great video! Gameology and Tabletop Games (my local) are great stores to visit. Always helpful and fantastic ranges and prices. My restaurant tip would be Marbl Steakhouse in Prahran. Not cheap, but probably the best steak I've had. For something gaming adjacent, Rush escape rooms (south Yarra and Hawthorn) are always fun. Hope to see you around!
Oh and Lune croissants are the best Ive had outside of Paris :)

If you're into TCGs then Plenty of Games in the CBD or General Games in the outer suburbs are great places to visit.
The timing is quite uncanny with how this video was released as I'm researching on PAX and Board Game BBQ. There's a local event hosted by Board Game BBQ this weekend but never been to any type of convention so I'm still hesitant on participating. 🤔 I'll be keeping this vid bookmarked if I do decide to visit Melbourne this year. BGBBQ events are super welcoming, if you are lucky enough to have a ticket definitely come along!! They will also be at the 'Powerhouse Late: Gaming' public event this Thursday in Sydney 🙂
