Can I just tell you that I am so thankful for your two videos on this. I know you did them a while ago. My string broke yesterday and I was going to just buy a new umbrella and for some reason I decided to TH-cam it and came across your video. Saved me a few hundred $$$. The paracord was $9 at my local Canadian Tire, but still so worth it. Very clear instructions and nothing too difficult to do. Thanks so much!

I just re-strung my offset patio umbrella with the help of your video! I couldn’t be happier! I know nothing about tools and could not be less handy around the house. Never had any brothers and dad didn’t teach us this kind of stuff. Biggest tips from you were what kind of cord to buy and where to get it. I even got it delivered with my grocery order! Next biggest tip was making sure that the cord was over the little pulley at the top of the umbrella. I’m not sure I would’ve figured that out on my own. I did not need to use a washer. I was able to pop the bottom off on the inside of the umbrella and pull out the snapped cord and reattach it as it was originally. Works perfectly now and I still have matching umbrellas in my yard! Thank you so much for your great video! I’m subscribing!

Great that you made the 2nd video to show how to take it apart and put it together again after stringing it. I was ready to give up on mine! Thanks so much, love your relaxed manner!
Now to string mine, wish me luck!

Wll I'm on my way to Walmart for some paracord. I appreciate you showing ot and letting me know where to buy! Excellent video! It's extremely sunny, hot, ans humid in North Carolina today and we need a some shade bad!

My cord is fraying in the center of the line, has not yet frayed apart, but soon. Before I take it apart wondered if I could use the existing cord to feed the new cord through? Would this make the job any easier? Thanks in advance and Thanks for the video!!!

I live in Australia. I bought a cantilever umbrella from facebook market. A friend put it up and the first really windy night I tried to get the umbrella down and couldn't/can't. Turning the handle anti clockwise just unscrewed the handle until it came off. I cannot for the life of me work it out. My friend that after she put it up, she put it down but even she can't get it down. Either she didn't get it down or she's forgotten how to.. Personally I can't see any way to get that thing down.. Until last night when the cord broke. I opened the front door and to the left of my front porch was the umbrella looking as if it had been wound down.. Now it's just hanging there and I have no idea what to do..

Seriously, the part that I need to know is not in your video. I see all the parts laying there, but it would’ve been nice to see how to “remove” those parts and put them back in there. I’m a single woman here and I’m trying to figure this out for myself. I can’t seem to find any other video but this one.

How can I find out how much cord to use on my umbrella? I followed your instructions and my umbrella will not hang straight any longer. It only opens at an angle the way yours did. I’m assuming that I needed more cord, but I have nothing that tells how much (as a general rule) to use.

Donna Wright / I own 3 of these “overhanging umbrellas” around my pool, and fixed all 3 the same way. I used the same cord from Walmart that I showed in this vid. Not sure why it’s not working? The one in the vid is to block out the sun (at a vertical vs horizontal) Gears might be shot or something wrong with the pulleys? You can get more length parachute cord vs what I used. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

16-20 sec into the vid, you’ll notice I have them (gears, washers & ect) lined up how I took them out. Left to right with the nut being the last to put back on. The 2 before the nut, (gears) you might need to adjust to get it to fit right. Only tools I used was a needle noses pliers & a sm flat nose screwdriver. Hope this helps. (while you have all these out before assembly, spray them with WD-40. This helps with the assembly & for the function in time)

I'm hoping I can do it without taking the gears apart. If you have to take it apart, just carefully remove each piece and set them down in the right order. Take lots of pictures.

If you can’t take apart something & lay it out how it should go back together (& “you” take pictures or vid..) you should go buy a new one for a $100..... It’s easier than putting a 200 piece puzzle set....
