The biggest 289 I had was .030 over. That was a while ago, but it seems to me that was about the limit. It was about 292 cu. in. I can't imagine .090 over, which would be 301. Maybe someone else built the engine and told him that or maybe his math is flawed.
I can think of a way to do it: .030 overbore and a 2.95 stroke gives you 301.03 c.i.d. How to get the extra .08 inches of stroke? How about offset ground piston pins? How about installing the pistons backward? Nothing's impossible, gents...

Happens all time. 289 are beautiful. Yes it's very simple over bore and stroke that beast to 301 ci. 289 cam.hit high rpm as well. Sweeet
they dont make any pistons bigger than 60 over .
