I researched a water solution for my Jeep Gladiator and came across this video. This was the solution for me, and it turned out absolutely perfect. Many thanks for the detailed walkthrough and double thanks for the links to the needed components. Ride on!
Three ideas, ... 1. Make sure to put a drain (if needed) so line filled with water won't freeze and brake. 2. It would be nice to also have a gravity feed too. 3. They make a small RV pressure tank (like those on a home well pump) and it makes it nice to have some water without the pump having to cycle...
Hey there Kramer. I'm coming here from Drew Simms channel to see what you did with the water tank. And now, I see. Dude, if you ever have to run a water tube again, cap the end before you snake it through the dirty areas. It could save you from a nasty surprise later on. Just sayin'. Otherwise, pretty slick installation. Thanks for posting.

Thanks alot for the Vid, iv'e been planning on installing a tap on the back of my JK for a while and was confused on the best way to do it, you explained everything very clearly and now have the same set up working perfectly, cheers from Australia!
@@KramerJunction the only thing I didn’t see on the list was the filter you used before the water pump. Would you be able to direct me in the right direction for a filter? And I seen on the website for the tanks, that they have a new (10GAL) slim style tank. What would your thoughts be on the slim tank? I do like the one you have cause it is slanted which might work better than the slim tank, I just want to keep as much room in the rear as possible.
@@WestTexasOverlanders I would say use whatever will work best for your storage and setup in the rear. I have actually prioritized more rear space for less water storage. I’m my most text water system video I go over how I down sized to a 5 gal water container and I think the pre filter should be listed there
Nicely done! I'm interested in the same tank for a similar purpose, so your video is spot on. Hey, I did a quick check on that switch because the wire gauge looked thin to me. It is max 5A and the pump is max 7.5A... so you're underrated on the amperage on that switch... might want to replace it with a beefier one (alternatively, you could install a relay and just use the switch to trigger the relay instead of the pump). Thanks for all the links too!
Just a tip for those of us that find we needed 1 more step on the bit. If you can’t get the hole in plastic big enough but can screw the piece in, you can heat the metal up just enough, then you can thread that through without distorting the plastic. No bulging and it will fit in much better.
This is great!!! Thank you for the video and the parts list! I also noticed you are running air lift helpers. I also installed mine last week, but I think I may have the wrong ones installed as they immediately bunched up and went between the springs upon lowering the vehicle back down. Call them up with the inside dimensions of your springs and they will be able to help you out 🙌
Haha yes I have definitely considered that and how Im going to deal with it. I will most likely just leave it empty during the winter unless filling it immediately before use, otherwise I would need some type of 12v heating pad like they use for RVs 🤷♂️
@@resolutejku haha yes 100%. I’ve actually had to repair the pump due to water inside expanding and cracking parts. I actually removed the water tank a few months ago because I spend most of my time in freezing temps and the pump is constantly frozen. I have gone through the thought process of how to winterize the system, just haven’t cared enough to do it. In a couple months I will put the tank back when the threat of freezing is gone
@@KramerJunction Thanks for the reply! Yeah I would love to install a system like yours or Dan Grec's (TheRoadChoseMe) but in British Columbia, the freezing temperatures make an onboard water system pretty complicated. I'll probably just keep using portable water tanks.
@@KramerJunctiondepending on climate (I'm in the south with tons of sun) you can get algae to grow in your thanks unless it's lightproof end to end - so maybe (even though it's under the vehicle) replacing the clear hose with black might make a difference down the road
I'm trying to build the same system. the female qd fitting you listed seems to show a hole all the way through. I would think there needs to be some type of check in the qd to leave it closed until male is plugged in. That way the water doesn't come out? What am I missing here?
I am looking to do similar, but unsure about securing the quick release on the car. Was the thread tapered on the quick connector? I’d be hoping the connector you used on the inside would pull the quick connector tight into the panel to sandwich it in?
The pump isn’t hard mounted, but it is basically wedges in place in that void space and with the tubing coming in and out it is pretty solid. It was actually quite a pain to get in place with the pre-filter on and short length of tubing going to the outlet.
Did it. Works great! One quick note, and it's probably something you've experienced: for the connection from the faucet to quick disconnect piece, one is NPT (truncated) and one is NPS (straight) so it won't thread completely, but with enough teflon tape it will not leak. Just in case someone else tries and sees that that the threads wont fully seat.
Does the quick connect have a check valve (Jeep side). If you were to press the power button would water come out of the connector if the faucet were not attached?
It does not. I do wish I had added something like that on the initial install or used some different pressure washer fitting, but it also hasn’t been an issue so I haven’t changed it. Hindsight being 20/20 I absolutely would do it differently a second time and I may in the near future. I have disconnected the faucet while it was under pressure more than once lol
Brilliant. Thanks for the video! Quick question - while the water pump is running, do you open the cap on the water tank to offset the pressure? Or have you installed a pressure release value on the tank as well?
Awesome glad you like it 👍🏻 good question, I just loosen the cap when I’m using it so air can get in. A pressure release valve in the cap sounds like a great idea though 🤔
@@KramerJunction Makes sense! I have the 16-gallon rectangular tank. Been trying to figure out how best to arrange everything. Currently using a Waterport for showering, but would much prefer 16 gallons to 3. I'll keep my eye out for your next post!
I had thought about that. It’s an open space with a hole at the bottom so I’m not terribly concerned though and it will only ever be powered when the Jeep is stationary so I think it should be ok plus everything is fused. Definitely a consideration 👍🏻
Does the pump have to work harder being so far from the water supply? I think this is a great idea. I just worry about the life span of the pump in that location. I definitely like how you thought it out.
The section of tubing in my system is 5-6' and the pump is intended for RV use with runs of tubing much longer than what I'm using so it's actually quite over sized for what I'm using it for. I have the pump wedged in place pretty tight so I don't worry about it getting banged around, but it's definitely dust and potentially wet in that area. Funny, I was camped out the day you made this comment and I accidentally left the pump on and it ran dry for hours...I opened the water, turned on the pump and it's running perfect like nothing happened. I think the pump was only like $60 so if it does fail after a couple of years then I honestly can't complain.
@@TheDon8771 i can definitely recommend the pump I used. The only thing I would change is if maybe I could find a more compact pump with maybe a slightly lower flow rate for water conservation purposes. An on demand pump is a must. I even considered adding an accumulator tank like you would find in an RV, but just wasn’t possible with space constraints

I haven’t looked in to this so I can’t tell you which filter would be most appropriate and far as what works with the tubing and pressure the pump runs but my initial thoughts are you would probably want the water to go from the pump to a small accumulator tank and then a filter would be installed inline somewhere after that. Drawback is it would be a bulky setup and I don’t think you would get any type of usable pressure out of it as most filters work somewhat slowly. I don’t use the water in my storage tank as drinking water but if I do ever need to I carry a large water filter made by sawyer that filters a gallon of water at a time in a few minutes.
I keep fresh water flowing through pretty often so things stay pretty clean and I look inside of the tank frequently to see the water level and the inside is always as clean as the day I bought it. It's only 5-6' of tubing, so its basically being flushed every time I turn the water on.
