gotta say thanks for also including the setup time in this video. That's something that's often overlooked but matters more to solo gamers than a group.
Thank you so much. This video (previously) changed my view of Euros, and helped me discover my favorite genre. This list is epic. I am back to see what I missed, because this list defines my taste.
Great list! These are the type of lists that hurt my wallet and my shelf but help with my fun factor in life. I was really surprised I didn’t see Mage Knight on the list. Also, the solo expansion for Archipelago is supposed to be a lot of fun (I’ve only played it multiplayer). Again, thanks for doing the list!
Sorry for your wallet!! :) Glad you enjoyed the list and I kept Mage Knight out as I do not see it as a euro. Too much randomness on card draws, enemy placement, tile placement etc. I think of a euro as being 85 - 90% deterministic from the getgo. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Great list! Definitely agree with your number 1. I've played Scythe solo a couple of times now and it provides a fun and challenging experience. I'm waiting for my copy of Dinosaur Island to come in the mail and to get it to the table. Thanks for the top 10.
I am so surprised that almost all of those games were competitive in non-solo and that they all had solo systems. Thank you for the list. Good luck with your house!!
I know right! Well Uwe does a great job of including solo in his games and I don't think he has ever made a cooperative game yet. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Here I was, after finishing 2 games of Cerebria (getting beaten up by Ego), happily ignoring all the suggestions about Anachrony that fly at me at every turn (skipping it for it's large footprint - not looking at you Cerebria, you shush - and being competitive - again not a peep Cerebria - since I occasionaly play 2p) and I hear the magic words... intelligent AI. I'm fascinated by well done AIs for solo gaming. Except for beating the game itself (coops), AI is my most loved mechanism in solo board gaming. Sort of predictable (you can evaluate chances what it does), but also it may surprise you and manages to stay toe to toe with you. I adore that and I'm always fascinated by it. But thank you for this list, you presented each game greatly, I love that you included the "this might not be for you if". It's perfect.
+1 for Scythe ... It is also my #1 Euro game. This is the only (non-co-op) competitive game that I have ever bought, and I love it very much. The artwork is so phenomenal and the gameplay is smooth. The Automa Factory did a great job with the AI deck which is fun to play against. The airships from Wind Gambit expansion are really gorgeous on the table and surprisingly spice up the gameplay with aggressive and passive random rules.
Love your tshirt! :D And happy you mentioned Gaia Project, I think you will like it solo, and in worst case you could always admire the box that has my name on it ;) haha sorry I just cant stop mentioning that...just started watching, excited to see your choices!! :D
Love the video. I've only recently become a "solo" gamer, but here are some games that I own that PLAY solo, that I'm eager to try: Scythe (for sure!) Feudum (highly recommend/suggest you check out!) Energy Empire Anachrony (woot!) Cerebria Raiders of the North Sea Architects of the West Kingdom Robinson Crusoe Nemo's War Clans of Caledonia
Great list as usual!! I really like Terraforming Mars solo... Orleans is my #1 game (competitive) ever but I never played the Invasion, really have to try that... And about Glassroad, that game did not click for me but I am very curious about trying Nusfjord which is suposedly comparable in weight and has a solo mode...
Terraforming is FANTASTIC but for some reason I don't consider it a Euro, maybe because so much is dependent on the 4 cards you draw each round, it doesn't feel deterministic enough. Orleans I have ONLY played co-op hahahaha! so we have had opposite experiences with that one. Nusfjord does look awesome as well, just not sure I need more solo euro games ha! Feast can keep me busy for years!!!
NICE! I love seeing those 17's! No 18's though, THAT would have been bragging. My last 5 plays were all recorded as 16's so I am still not as good as you! Glad you enjoyed the list and thanks as always for watching and commenting!
One Stop Co-op Shop Anachrony, for me is top two/three for me. Love love this game. And! They are doing an expansion! Yep, you read right. Can! Not! Wait!
Yeah Anachrony is amazing and I cannot WAIT to see what the expansion brings! As for Odin of Scythe, I still like the win/loss in Scythe over Odin. I tried Viticulture and it was OK, but you are not really playing against an AI system, it is just a beat your own score where you decide what point level you want to beat. Still though good games!!
Hey Collin, beside Gaja Project you should realy take a look at Spirit Islands: realy thematic, great difficulty skaling and you can play Solo with 1,2,3 or even 4 Spirits and tons of combinations of the 8+ very different spirits (great Replayability).
Oh I own Spirit Island, it was my number one solo game of all time in my top 15 solo games. I just don't think of it as a euro! But GREAT suggestion, I really REALLY need to play that one again soon!
YES! Anachrony is amazing. . . You should try Kepler but FEAST is where it is at, as long as you are OK with a beat your own score. . . Thanks for watching and commenting and glad you liked the shirt!
Ohh that is a hard one. Feast is a different beast, ha! I LOVE Nemo's war but I would say the two are VERY different. You have objectives in Nemo's War that for Feast is just high score. I have Nemo as a top 10 solo, Feast isn't because of that reason. But Feast is wonderful for trying out tons of combos etc. And I like the theme a lot!
Good video. 😃. Glass Road and Scythe are my personal favorites; solo or not. Gates of Loyang, as Atlantis Rising aren’t in print. Orleans Invasion is intriguing.
Nice!! Yeah playing Glass Road competitive is so fun! Which specialists are they going to play?!?!?!! Hahahaha. At the Gates of Loyang is supposed to come back into print soon, and Atlantis Rising will have a second edition coming soon!
I actually have the Co-op Expansion for it! Fully believe it will be on this list, but I haven't learned the rules yet. . I know I know but there are just only so many hours in the day hahahah! I 100% will be doing a playthrough of that one with the co-op expansion since there is almost nothing out there, but I have to get through some games that were sent to me first.
Tease us with your Orleans deluxe components ;-) Scythe is amazing but best enjoyed multiplayer IMHO. Great list of games Colin! Two glaring omissions: Terraforming Mars and Viticulture. Have you not tried these or are they not for you?
HAHAHAHA I know that was mean wasn't it, sorry about that! And yes I agree Scythe is better multi-player but still quite good solo. Have you tried playing with 2 automa's?
I have not played Scythe solo. Scythe is easy to get to the table multiplayer because ..... well it is Scythe. Fortunately, I do have the Colin level components for Scythe. I may have to resort to buying the retail edition of Orleans. Such a first world problem I must face.
It really is super cool, and with a 2nd edition that I think will take it to the next level. Not sure yet when it is coming out but I will let you all know once I find out!
Great list. I see Fields of Arle on that shelf; you should try that solo, especially with all the Uwe games - it’s solid for solo. And definitely try Nemo’s War - it is primarily solo and is fantastic.
It is one that I feel shamed I have yet to try!! I think it will be a good 2 player one! Nemo's War I couldn't count as a Euro game, I know it is victory piints but there is WAY to much dice rolling in that one for it to be considered a Euro. I do love that game I think it was number 4 or 5 in my top 15 solo games!
Hey Colin, just thought about another potential top list - Top coop games that allow/encourage individual decision making... I am sure you can find another name for this... Explaining... I really dislike coop games that lack structure for individual decision making or that required for most decisions to be discussed and taken collectively, almost as if it was a solo game being played by multiple people... The obvious example is The 7th Continent which has no structure and feels like each decision needs to be discussed... Another example is Pandemic, which you kind of can play without much discussion but you wont have a chance to win it... Another angle to look at this is games that avoid alpha players to take over, although I think alpha players are a secondary consequence of the issue I am describing and not the issue itself... Just a thought... Good examples of games that allow for good individual decision making are Gloomhaven and Spirit Island... Ps: Hope you had a good GenCon...
One Stop Co-op Shop I particularly think this is an important concept because I see many people (like me at first) reject coop games because they like playing “their own game”, taking their own decisions ... Obviously some decisions at a minimum need to be shared in a coop but some games really provide that nice balance between individual and collective decisions... Many people start with Pandemic or Forbidden Island and seeing you need to take all the decisions collectively, they give up on coop games...
One of my favourites is Archipelago. Even though I can't find a copy of the solo expansion, it is just a bunch of cards with starting setups, goals and end-game triggers. I've found 3 or so online and tried them out. It is a point game where you score gold silver or bronze, but one you can also lose. Mentioning it as my favourite solo euro, might be cheating though since it is also probably my favourite game.
Ohhhh I have debated if I should get that one ore not, I hear it is good! Looks like you just spent some of my money as I will be hunting this one down! Thanks for the suggestion!
My apologies to your wife. There are some solo playthroughs online, so you can see how it plays out. Another one that I forgot about (apologies again) is Testament of Duke DeCracy (however it is spelled). The competative game is quite good, where you build your descendants, but in the solo, you are researching your ancestors. I haven't tried it in a long time, though, but I remember really liking it. I can almost blame you for putting Robinson Crusoe at the top of my list (likely my next purchase) and I would if it wasn't the news of an expansion to it that ultimately led to discovering your channel.
HAHAHAHA I will tell her you said that! I will also be looking that testament one up as well heck yes. Robinson Crusoe!!! How did I forget about that one gah! Such a good one and can be played co-op as well. . . Man too many games, not enough time to play them all. . .
Hi. As always a great list! Always new games for me to look up and check out :D I was wondering if you have tried Clans of Caledonia and Agricola solo? and if you have, what you think of them? Keep up the good work! You really have become a wonderful source of inspiration for all solo gamers :D
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words! I have not tried either solo unfortunately so I am not a good reference there sorry. I believe Slickerdips has though, I would suggest asking him!
Great different list than all others (except for scythe) . hehe. I still have Anachrony wrapped in seal and really need to get to this game. good times.
gotta say thanks for also including the setup time in this video. That's something that's often overlooked but matters more to solo gamers than a group.
It takes time! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much. This video (previously) changed my view of Euros, and helped me discover my favorite genre. This list is epic. I am back to see what I missed, because this list defines my taste.
It has completely molded my taste!
Glad to help and thanks for watching!!
Really enjoyed this - it holds up several years later just fine!
Thanks so much for watching!!
Great list! These are the type of lists that hurt my wallet and my shelf but help with my fun factor in life. I was really surprised I didn’t see Mage Knight on the list. Yes!!! Scythe is so fun solo and I think you will really enjoy dino island. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I am so surprised that almost all of those games were competitive in non-solo and that they all had solo systems. Thank you for the list. Good luck with your house!!

Totally agree! Thanks for watching!
I like the contrast between beat score and goal based ones.
Thanks! Yeah sometimes a beat your own score is what I want, and other times I want something to beat! Thanks for watching David!
Another awesome list, thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching!!
Love your tshirt! :D And happy you mentioned Gaia Project, I think you will like it solo, and in worst case you could always admire the box that has my name on it ;) haha sorry I just cant stop mentioning that...just started watching, excited to see your choices!! :D
Whoot whoot! Sounds awesome, and hope you enjoyed the top 10!
The upcoming Scythe expansion Rise of Fenris will have a coop module as well. I hope you will make a coop playthrough of it!
Got sure will!!! So pumped!
Love the video. I've only recently become a "solo" gamer, but here are some games that I own that PLAY solo, that I'm eager to try:
Scythe (for sure!)
Feudum (highly recommend/suggest you check out!)
Energy Empire
Anachrony (woot!)
Cerebria
Raiders of the North Sea
Architects of the West Kingdom
Robinson Crusoe
Nemo's War
Clans of Caledonia
Nice list!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Nice video. Have you tried Troyes solo?
Danielle Lauzon I love Troyes solo! Le Roy is really tough but a great AI.
Feast can keep me busy for years!!!
Nice list, Collin. Thank you! I hear you about Loyang - I am stuck on 16 too. I cannot tell you how many times I have scored 16!
EVERY time it is 16!! Gah it is like that 17 number is just mocking me the entire game! Thank you for watching Stasia!
Hi Colin and Stasia, my scores for Loyang so far: 14/17/17/16/14/15/15/17 (brag brag).
Great list, love all Uwe's games, myself.
NICE! I love seeing those 17's! No 18's though, THAT would have been bragging. My last 5 plays were all recorded as 16's so I am still not as good as you! Glad you enjoyed the list and thanks as always for watching and commenting!
Congratulations, Gilles - although I could learn to hate you, lol :) I am a huge Uwe fan too.
Hahaha!!
that number one was expected its so cool and fun
Couldn't agree more!!
Thanks for sharing. Great list.
Thank you for watching and commenting Tony!
These are some of my favorite solo euros...and seeing new games I obviously need to buy ;) :D
I love the concept of Dinosaur Island...the color palette has kept me away. Kinda sad...I feel so shallow...
Good to see we have some of the same taste! Sorry about the color's of DI. I felt the same way. . .
Thanks for all the good recommendations. I really want to try Loyang.
Glad to help! Tang garden is another new one id suggest!
One Stop Co-op Shop Oh nice. I will look that one up.
Just came out June 4th!
Orleans! Cool. Just going through getting all the bits for this game.
HAHAHA yes there are SO MANY BITS! Thanks for watching Steve!
One Stop Co-op Shop Anachrony, for me is top two/three for me. Love love this game. And! They are doing an expansion! Yep, you read right. Can! Not! Wait!
I’d put Feast for Odin above Scythe. Both good but for me Odin has more. But I do love the solo of Viticulture, another from 5he same peep.
One Stop Co-op Shop do you see Robin Crusoe as a Euro? That a goodie solo for me with the expansions. That’s also getting a new big expansion too!
Also, +1 for Scythe as the best solo game in the hobby. I recommend using the Scythekick app to run multiple AIs. Jamey endorsed it, so it’s official!
YESS Now that app doesn't work for multiple AI's if you do not have an apple phone. . . So sad!
I assumed Spirit Island would be on top of this list. Colin was one of the first people to praise it on TH-cam.
Yeah I love it, just didn't come to mind as a euro game hahahaha!
Can we consider "Renegade" a euro game? Love your youtube channel =p
I would be good with that!! Thanks so much for watching and your kind words!!
:-) very nice and Intresiting Video
Anachrony is my favourite, but i haven't tried Kepler nor Feast for Odin. I might try those. Your shirt, lol !! XD
YES! Anachrony is amazing. . . You should try Kepler but FEAST is where it is at, as long as you are OK with a beat your own score. . . Thanks for watching and commenting and glad you liked the shirt!
First time i played i was completely overwhelmed, but mind blown at the same time. To think i didn't want it at first.
Do you think if i like Nemo's war, i would also like Feast for Odin? Might be too different games to actually compare.
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Keep gaming!

Nice!! Yeah playing Glass Road competitive is so fun! Which specialists are they going to play?!?!?!! Hahahaha. At the Gates of Loyang is supposed to come back into print soon, and Atlantis Rising will have a second edition coming soon!
And btw, have you played The Colonists solo? Saw at your shelf behind you... How is it? Thanks!!
I actually have the Co-op Expansion for it! Fully believe it will be on this list, but I haven't learned the rules yet. . I know I know but there are just only so many hours in the day hahahah! HAHAHAHA I get that, it is a wonderful game! Good to hear you have the good components! :) Deluxe Orleans is hard to find sorry!
lewis n clark?love that game
Haven't played it! I will have to look it up!!
Well done.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing content
Thanks so much Sebbe!!
Hey Colin, where do you get all your awesome t-shirts? Thanks for the content, love your work!
Max, thank you for watching! I get my T-shirts on Amazon, they have so many of them!! Thank you for the kind words!
Aaaarg! Amazon! I’ll have to see if they ship to Australia... 😎
Oh man I hope so!! Good luck I love my board game shirts! :)
Just noticed you never added Spirit Island! Are you feeling well? hehe
Hahaha!! Didn't feel it was a Euro!! Sorry!
Atlantis Rising looks interesting.
It really is super cool, and with a 2nd edition that I think will take it to the next level. Not sure yet when it is coming out but I will let you all know once I find out!

Nice T-shirt :)
Thought it was fitting for the occasion! Thanks for watching!
Where is Sprit Island ?
Just didn't think it was a Euro! Sorry about that!
One Stop Co-op Shop All 10 games are great
I WANT that t-shirt!
Amazon, check it out!
Wtf is ameritrash?
Great different list than all others (except for scythe) . hehe. I still have Anachrony wrapped in seal and really need to get to this game. good times.
you gotta get anachrony out... it is wonderful!!
