What makes this version more heart breaking than Wicked has nothing to due with being gay. In wicked, when she sang this you KNEW they’d end up together, so it was hard to sympathize with her. But when he sings it you KNOW he won’t be with him and your heart shatters. He’s watching his true love fall in love with his polar opposite and it’s breaking him. This version makes me cry in a way wicked’s just couldn’t
