Great review, thanks! I havent had those issues with axel but I definitely agree, bad design, too prone for damage. Initially I was not stoked on the Suntour forks but after tightening the rebound and adjusting air pressure for my weight its become way less "clanky" and performs much better. Overall, I'm super pumped on this thing after a couple hundred miles.
Love my Growler 40 but, yeah, that axle is frustrating. Found if you tighten it ALL the way, the "flowers" tend to stay depressed. But you have to then find the right tension when you put it back in, making sure the flowers are open to ensure the wheel stays on. Poor design choice, but on the whole, love this bike. Fork isn't the best but for a hardtail, I want it stiff, and my rebound is perfect - not soft, not jackhammering. Don't notice any knocking on mine. Good review, Jake
I’m about to buy this bike. It’s been on my radar for the last year or so. Started mountain biking a couple years ago on an entry level Cannondale Trail 8. But I’ve gotten to the point where the bike isn’t performing up to my abilities plus I need to replace parts but I’d rather spend the money on a bike better suited to my capabilities. Anyhow thanks for the detailed review. Information really helps
It is a very overpriced bike. I was initially impressed by the Growler. However, after the honeymoon period, I believe that I paid too much at $1500, and that was 25% off. Brand new full price, $1000 is probably accurately priced IMO, but I'm very old and conservative.

They come spec'd with different component levels and different prices. I think they are all overpriced.
How tall are you? Is your bike a large?
