One of the main differences between good hoops and weekend warriors is that they stay LOW all the time. It looks cool to do crossovers standing up tall, but pro ballers play extremely low to the ground. It gives you more explosive power and gives you a greater margin of error with your dribbling. If your handles aren't where you want them too be you probably aren't getting low enough.

That is a huge aspect for sure that most ppl miss. For a regular guy I usually have the best handles at my runs and sometimes guys ask me secret and I always say obviously ball control, footwork, counters, change of pace and level changes(getting low)
