Some of the best freshwater fishing is at the rodmen reservoir, which is some of the Oklawaha, I have never heard that someone released monkeys deliberately, I always heard they were monkeys used during the filming of the Tarzan films back in the day, with Johnny Weissmuller. Yeah, there are monkeys as far as Orange Park Florida, which is right around the Jacksonville area. i’m surprised y’all did not camp out on the Ocklawaha. It’s a lot of fun! One of the oldest fairy crossings is at the Ocala national forests, I once saw a snake over 30 feet long, crossing the Oklawaha.
I agree, Carrie, I too was thinking these critters all look so content and chill, like they know they are "safe" there. Great to see. Good for them!

Just paddled this a couple days ago with some friends. Went up and back from Rays, so you dont need the shuttle. Youre right , one of the best spots to paddle in Florida. If they could remove the outboards and airboats it might last awhile

Definitely bucket list worthy. We did that same paddle last November and we're blessed to see the monkeys too. They're not always out. Glad you got to see all that wildlife. We had heard that weeki wachee was the place to paddle but having done weeki wachee silver springs and rainbow springs, we thought silver springs was the best.
