The security guard is wrong and right, the 7 hour war was the worse war and it had result in the taken over of earth. It possibly resulted in a few million deaths or more. The combine raiding places quickly turned into chaos as one by one citizens died. Yes I see why you said black mesa was really bad it started XEN crystals and other things xen things to start breaching from xen it started the incident. like the perspective changing from black mesa to the present, especially from the view of someone who survived black mesa that isn't prominent; makes you remember that others survived the incident, and not just the important people. 6:21 though i thought i would see gordon appear in the black mesa flashback to save the guard, it would've added a bit more connection between both of them.
I’ll be honest, I thought about that but I was scared of crossing a line of cringe and realistic story telling. Jessica being a former BM guard was something I ported over from her HL2 RP lore and I wanted to make it as grounded as I could. So I set her in the closest sector to the surface and away from Gordon during that part of the story.
