  • How To Make Homemade PVC Wind Turbine Blades DIY. First you need a pvc pipe should have a diameter of 10 cm. One pipe can make four blades. "how big do you need them" my blades is 5mm thick and 50cm long. The material are very light weight and cost effective!

    Going to give this a Go ! Thinking of affixing 3 maybe 5 to a 26 inch bicycle wheel. Use a three phase motor in generator mode, eaaa! Would make a fine back up source for a solar power wall charger.

    This isn't bad at all!
    Are you eager to further this one with something even better for practical use?
    Say, if you have an 6 hp lawn motor stored somewhere in a shed, you could possibly use this to make yourself a wig craft for use on water, it makes it way more easier for you to travel huge distances rather than using a motorboat.
    I am planning to do just that, and this tutorial made it a little bit more reachable :)

    Hi; ABS plastic pipe warps in sunlight, PVC is subject to UV rays. Both get brittle, in sunlight. It's best to give either, a double coat of protective paint. Also, DWV...(drain, waste, & vent) pipe has a foam inner core. Schedule 40 pipe, does not and would be stronger...longer.

    Hi George , This is a dreamy thing I would always make , but my question is : " how to make blades ?" I mean knowing where to cut ? I should have a pattern on paper and cut the pvc pipe according to. Where can I find that patter ?

    At 2:30 when he joined the blades to the hub, it would have been a better mount if he put a strip of metal above the plastic so that the blades would have been sandwiched between metal plates.

  • @m1aws

    Good film but a big dumb D'uh! moment there George.
    You built it as a propeller instead of a turbine. You made the blades inside out. The leading edges are on the trailing edge side.
    Making it run normally the trailing edge is held. It will force the blades flatter in strong winds instead of increasing the pitch. Big ouch!

    How about showing it working? Output in decent wind? Ammeter? I did my first wind generator with a pc fan and hooked it to a volt meter, stuck it out the window when I hit 80 kmh. My version of this demonstration was way better. Hook your system to the back of a truck while going down the expressway at 80 kmh and hook up DMM and ammeter...show us real shit!

    • @timmoren8796
      @timmoren8796 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not the point of this video. This video is all about showing the viewer how to make the blades, not what to do with them. This way, we can do our own testing. And if your demonstration was so good, why are you bothering to watch and comment on this video?

    • @justinbrown7945
      @justinbrown7945 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My version wasn't worth producing enough current, mind you, it was a PC fan. It would light up an LED, but why go through trouble of making this and not know power output? Good job on the blades, my point was not to criticize, but asking for what really matters, electrical production or the promise of such in future instead of a closed-ended project only doing part of the work. I have a wind generator project and will post vids, but I am months away from posting anything. My project uses an electric motorcycle PM AC motor and I was interested in your vid for blade ideas, but there is no info on power output, so I need more info so I don't build blades that are too small for my 3000 watt motor/generator. I may take a similar design using pipes or sono tube and make vertical set up. I will make some very large blades for my system, probably bigger than necessary because I am looking to maximize performance and can use different gearing to match blades to motor and wind available. It would help also if your description mentions whether or not this is a one-off or video series. If you want to be offended on my comment, it's your call.

    • @wisolutions
      @wisolutions 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of this if you want any decent power you need a decent gauge enamel coated magnetic wire encased in fiberglass resin it is about 35 turns in parallel (two wires running together for each coil) for 12v or 1 wire a 70 turns for 24v 3 phase ac to figure out how to do this and use this just google it there are plenty of resources how to build PMA's with different designs I personally like axial flux. Anyhow look at the ratings on a fan you will not get enough anything to do much with a computer fan lol your lack of research is what costed you the time but what you don't realize is the education from what you did would have costed you a lot more if you payed for it so keep tinkering you'll get it but if you want larger scale power you must build according to that there is no secret energy device using a computer fan of 500ma that is going to power much more than an LED you should not expect this and if you do you did not read much. Maybe you should try hugh piggots book about wind turbines it will point you in the right direction.

    • @justinbrown7945
      @justinbrown7945 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A comment on the video turns out to be better than the video. My PC fan was my first attempt at such a feat, but was more of a reflection of why this video was incomplete. It is easy to tell people to google something, but google is flooded with B.S. and it is hard to find credible sources that point people in the right direction. You actually seem to point in the right direction and thank you for that.
