This job is not unlike other hard digging jobs I've done in the past. Hard work. I've used a pickax to dig up invasive plants and shrubs, not to mention running bamboo. You're so right about having the right tools for the job. You've given me some inspiration for resuming my gardening activities after I fully recover from COVID. 👍
i would use a long, heavy iron tamping bar with a spade tip. they sell for about $50. 6' long and heavy. You get reach from the length and cutting momentum from the shear mass weight as you 'throw' it into the soil. They're durable and you can use it as a lever to to pry the cleft.
Wow Alan I wonder if that soil was still dry and hard or maybe the pup was in there too long.. Good video to watch and learn from no matter what.. I've been wanting some date palms in my zone 8 A /7B up here in Arizona.( higher altitude ) Not sure what a small date palm would cost me... I ordered some organic dates and now Im waiting for them to sprout..But I would rather have the actual plant.🌱☺
bloody hard work. Good job though. its worth it if they are anywhere near the price here in Western Australia. Very exy. so worth it dates are amazing and beautiful and keep extraordinary.
that’s smart to wait for the roots to expand into the pot before selling for proper transplanting/planting! very nice demonstration

Perfect timing. I'm splitting off a bunch of dwarf Med Fan Palms this spring.
What a tough job! I was getting tired just watching you! Thanks for the video.
lol
That was a bunch of work! I might would have gave up and put the trench bucket on my backhoe! LOL Thankful for my sandy soil!
lol yea your sandy soil is like cheating!
The thorns make the job much more difficult. They have some fearsome thorns.

I was thinking jackhammer too! Lol! 🧡
Awesome video!
There's a longer blade maybe that would help

Dates do not come true from seed! It will take years to find out the fruit quality from your seed grown palm. It is worth it to buy a plant.
A spade bit on a hammer drill is the answers!
soil was moist, i left the pup in too long though.

Brother can you tell the difference between a date n a pindo palm by just the way they look?
pindo doesn't have thorny fronds and they whip down as they get long. Date palms stay pointing up and will mess you up.
@@qctropicals thanks brother
Update video?
i think 2 fried in the sun and one is ok lol :)
