Answers some of my questions concerning this game, like "What keeps veteran players still coming to the game". I started playing a lot of realm the past, maybe half a year or so, and had a lot of fun learning dungeons (aka learning how to leech popped dungeons and get free loot). Like not too long ago nest seemed scary to me because I ran in when people started the boss early, got sat on and instantly died (sounds absolutely hilarious now). But now im getting used to kog, getting to where I can start to somewhat do o3 and then all that's left is shatters. After that, what is the replayabiltiy of the game? I guess the answer is just events and battlepasses and then quit until the next one LOL.
For a lot of players the endgame is quite literally to get that fame number as high as possible. Gets pretty repetitive after the first 100 hours of spamming the same easy dungeon
What do you think about making crucibles or missions involving completing dungeons with less players? Or if not, then leave those the same but add something to reward running a dungeon with less players/solo running? Example you get 2x loot (2 bags) when completing idk kogbold steamworks solo, and 2 points in exalts (Just throwing something out there). This would reward people for completing dungeons in realms to give SOME sort of incentive. Literally the only reason to run dungeons in a realm is... well i don't really know, just for challenging your skills i guess. It is SO much less time efficient to run dungeons in a realm, as opposed to sitting afk in nexus getting carried through all the dungeons getting free loot.@@Eterniam
I agree with every point of the rant but kinda disagree with the "it's not worth playing" conclusion. I think there's still a very valid sweet spot period between the new player and endgame player experience where the game seriously shines unlike any other, I've been actively playing again for about two years now and have been really enjoying it. Basically as long as you have new content to master and collectibles to hoard then there is always a reason to log in, and if you deliberately avoid the max efficiency discord strats then you get more longevity out of the game. I've been gradually phasing in more and more discord raids since learning most exalts solo has just been absurdly difficult but still trying to only use them in moderation with most sessions being just random realm wandering for a couple hours clearing dailies. You're not actually wrong about anything else though. The new player experience is confusing and terrible, seasonal missions are a step in the right direction but even those aren't great (and sometimes seem like a step backward, like what the fuck is going on with the sequencing this season? It was literally like "do hive, then ice cave, then toxic sewers" in that order, anyone learning the game this month is getting bamboozled with those directions). We need a full tutorial overhaul with a clear path through most of the content, the 8/8 loop, pets, etc. The endgame player experience also doesn't sound sustainable. When people have already seen everything then there's nothing more to see (duh), and the only solution they ever attempt is just throwing more events and releasing more cosmetics. But sitting and grinding the same keys over and over in order to look slightly different when doing the same thing next week just isn't a worthwhile gaming experience and is arguably just an abusive trap for people that might legitimately need help. Leaning into the roguelike angle of the game might be better here, they kinda tried that with seasons but that's mostly turned out to just be a way to sell more storage. Some sort of proper PPE support might at least encourage people to enjoy playing the game again instead of just optimizing it though. Anyway, kind of a rambly comment, didn't mean to write so much but it is a big topic right now. Again though I do think there is an audience for the game in "people that can get through the early rough patch but that haven't already cleared everything" and your tutorial content was doing a good job of catering to that by helping bridge the gaps between different stages of learning. I don't blame you for wanting to quit though since you're obviously on the shitty side of the audience gap now and have nothing left to actually do in-game.

I completely agree. I’ve played this game for upwards of 10 years now and the most relevant problem I’ve seen (that you mentioned) would be toxic players/chat. I think better content moderation would add to the new and general player experience. That discord douchebag is a great example of the type of people who, sadly, enjoy this game and enjoy ruining it for others.
It's such a shame to see every other server but two be dead. Even playing in a smaller server as a noob, USMidwest2, there was a tangible community and I even got into one of the largest guilds on the server and made a lot of friends. Now it's almost unplayably low population, and the servers that have population force you into a realm from start to close because nexusing means you sit in a 20 person queue to get back in before Oryx. And then there's the constant nexus keys disincentivizing going into a realm at all. Those macro level issues are super oppressive for ALL players, not just the highest or lowest end, but they're also the hardest to fix. I really hope they put the effort towards doing so regardless, as it's seriously dire.
Realm rework needed to happen a long time ago, I at least used to be able to play on us west if I didn't care for o3 but... Yeah with the lack of players it's forced me to be come accustomed to endgame content. The knowledge checks are so dumb like, this is an mmorpg with bullet dodging and I want to have exhilarating stuff happen where I am rushing a dungeon, or I am fighting endless mobs with lots of other people. My experience stops at hardmode shatters because I can't simply enter the dungeon, play it skillfully while using little to know brainpower other than finding the shatters and dodging attacks. So that's my particular struggle, the only other content that I'd want to do is umi from mv.
I think realm is at the lowest point it's been in ~14 years. A few things: The spider ring is now a low tier dungeon (1.5 gravestone difficult) reward that gives +5 defence, +5 vitality, and a unique area slow. The spider den is already a profitable location for harvesting ichors (+150 heal stacking consumables superior to red potions by 50% regarding heal power) as well as silver-coin exchangeable uniques (useful for purchasing valuable items like the candy ring, amulet of dispersion, st. Abraham's wand, and more. These stats contrast to the previous old spider ring, which gave +3 defence, +3 vitality, and a unique slow, already fairly decent. The fact that the +10 points are defence-related generally speaking makes it even more over-powered and unbalanced to give away in such a simple dungeon that takes about a minute to clear with experience. This is a broken example of guardians being supposed to guard proportionately valuable items but instead giving an unfittingly strong reward. Another example of a broken item is the new amulet of dispersion. It used to be +1 in def, wis, att, dex, spd, vit and +20 health and +20 mana (call it +8 total stats). Now, at the same cost of 60 silver coins, it gives what you may call +16 total stats (+40 hp, +40 mp, and +2 in other stats). Considering how fat of an item it is for raiding a few low level dungeons that out performs the total stats of exalted oryx-level rings by 8 points, that seems almost as unbalanced as the spider ring. The number one reason I can explain disliking realm now is the new music. It used to be one decent and even debatably above-par defining piece basically playing throughout the whole game, and maybe a few new acceptable ones. Now it's a bunch of lovey-dovey crap that I can only describe with curse words that get me instantly muted/banned on league of legends. It reminds me of something distasteful would hear on stardew valley or farmville. Another issue I consider is temporary event items that appeal specifically to frequent realm players, but not irregular players. The unique collectable event items (dozens of examples like valentines day/pirate themed 20x stackables) intended as profitable become unusable junk when not used. I think they should allow you to cash the leftovers in which will at least appeal more to irregular players who don't obtain all 5 stacks of 20x event trade ins. It's a shame, I really appreciated this game for at least about 13 years until recently. I paid around $200 as well. By the way, I'm disappointed they rejected my inquiry on recovering my lost account after I provided them paypal information for a $100 purchase. I lost my items, possibly 1+ character slots/vaults, and most importantly my high level pet (around 50-70). That being said, I think the game has major potential in coming back with a lot or even most of the content being generally appreciable.

i dont play rotmg anymore but i was a new player in summer 2023, not sure how its changed since then but i played for about a month or two and found the games community to be very nice actually and honestly my new player experience was probably one of the best ive had on any game besides a few bots and stuff in the main lobby. bear in mind i am EU tho i never played on any US servers
It only gets bad once you enter the endgame. The top 20 guilds in this game are pretty much all toxic. Every single Discord server except for a few are inadequately run.
there is grieffing on new shatters with Hard Mode, as well luring monstes to Crystal Cave boss arena by activating the drill b4 the main group arrives.
Delete kicking won't help much imo, because still only these people who get loc in discord get to the raid in perticular bazaar. Maybe 1-2 more "crashers" per run will access it, but it won't kill the realm discords.
when there were fametrains nothing felt repetitive, all real grinders were there all day to famefarm, not speaking of 100 hours but of 5k+ hours, they changed how fame works and alot of people left cuz there is nothing to do in this game once u have all items, the only fun holding them together was fametrain and that was also patched for no reason... even tho some people see fame as just numbers, alot of us saw it as a way to progress in the endgame.
Discords are great as well, it’s the perfect way to gather people all around the game who want ti achieve the same goal. And Tf they politely said your banned because YOU WERE BEING ANNOYING, you can’t blame them for that

I played this game from 2012-2016 and then spent the following years just playing MOTMG and that's it. For the past few years I hadnt even played the game at all until last season and I'm kinda back into it for nostalgias sake. I play on my own with no guild because I'm well aware the community sucks for this game and I'm pretty sure the average age of the player base is like 13 years old. If you are realizing that this game is affecting your mental health in a more negative way, and you enjoy creating other kinds of content on youtube (such as the movie reviews) then I think you should focus on those. There is no point in creating content for a game you hate playing, it will just burn you out so bad in the end.
Discords dont make the game to be completable, it just makes it faster, thats all. Its people getting bored at the efficient mindless grind but also too scared to do the game solo. This is a people problem not a discord one. And since everyone farmed all White Bag gears in easy mode, they are not gonna burn those items by doing the dungeons so even MORE scared to not go solo or public. This was supposed to be "fixed" with the Seasonal Characters, so they can go and start fresh if they want and get stuff for the main account with the quests. And if thats not enough you can just.....use a character slot with a fresh character and just go do the endgame, its not like the game ITSELF prevents you from joining a dungeon, thats a thing that discord raids kick you for, not the game or public dungeons. You HAVE the choice, you are just not taking it and passing the blame on someone else. If it isnt Discord its going back to Skype. You can solo all the content even the Void if you know what you are doing. In fact I wish the game was offline so i can take my time and not worry if the servers crash or not.

Man, 50-70 isn't a high lvl pet. You can get it in 1-2 month easily. Amulet is shit btw, lol. The new music is very good,but,ok, thats just taste.

Yeah that was not the best idea on my part, I would still vote to remove or limit kicking but there is probably 100 better solutions before that one

also removing all real legends on leaderboards is crazy to me(wasnt one of them) but i still respect those numbers over the ones that are on rn.

Tbh, use is the best place to go if you just started, beg for free items and you may get them, the fact that theres bots in the game isn’t the games fault (or it is, idk) but bro if you don’t like the game don’t play it, late game is amazing, i mean early game is kinda bad, i agree, but why are you doing this? Lol the 50k character is definitely not the reason for this, I just think the game is in a poor state atm and is not being played correctly by the playerbase which is DECA's fault for being greedy and over monetizing keys and events
