@@infinitelocke all as good althought very different. Belle's solo gives me kind of a Rosé vibe, im sure you'll get what i mean when you hear it. Julie's solo is very YG/Black Label-esque. Haneul's solo is playfull but the 808s are NASTY AF

Another group that debuted last year is Queenz Eye. Their song Un-normal is a banger. It's got that smooth 2000s r&b NYC sound that red velvet, Aespa has. Very talented group

This group is fire. I like their sound. What is interesting is…what you brought up…is that there seems to be a new wave of artists that embrace the “western” style of R&B and Y2K..etc … I’ll just limit this to 4th gen girl groups. But lately it seems that the new groups are focusing on international appeal rather than purely S.Korean trends. Take Fifty Fifty for example…they debuted and did pretty respectable in Korea considering their small label. But they have been huge in the international billboards, especially with their song Cupid. XG is similar …they can promote in Korea but still keep their eyes on the international market where they seem to be getting the most love. Kiss of Life seems to be in that mold too. Those groups are like a hybrid…they can promote in Korea but their sound will appeal to more of a western audience so they can enjoy the best of both worlds. That is what gives those smaller or lesser known companies a chance to make their mark. If a group wants to have success in Kpop, they have to stick out among the many other groups. These newer groups stick out because they sound different and bring a different energy.
It’s also worth noting that JYP is currently training a new international girl group, currently named A2K, (that had tryouts in several locations in America ) . I’ve been watching those selection process videos and it’s super interesting. I think JYP is seeing the success of groups like XG and wants to tap into the international market more. I predict that more big companies like SM, will do the same. And I would guess that Babymonster will have that international sound as well. But anyway yes it’s an interesting trend going on and I think it’s a good thing.
I definitely think smaller groups have seen older groups not get that much love in SK so they are trying to expand FIRST and then promote locally. It makes sense bc it’s working great for smaller company groups now.
