This song is based on Katharine Kerr fantasy/medieval novels set in a fictional land of Deverry. These novels were written back in1986 to 2009 so you might never be able to get hold on them now - ancient history, just like me. I read all the books when I was a teenage and when I realised what this song was based on, I was hooked for life on Within Temptation. The story is based on reincarnation and a sorcerer called Nevyn, who to fulfil an oath he made when he was young, could never die, until he succeeded in teaching Jillian to also be a sorceress. Thus he lived over 500 years and basically kept catching up to Jillian every time she was reborn until at last he could succeed and be on his way (rest and die peaceful in other words). If you now look the lyrics you can really appreciate how Sharon had managed to summarize 10 books into 4 to 5 minute song.
You should know that Sharon is also a clothing designer and all the outfits in which she appears in her concerts and videos are designed by her. She also takes care of the outfit of the other members of the band.
This concert and another one called ''Elements'' were special events accompanied by an entire orchestra and a choir. In their other recorded concerts, they used backing tracks. You should listen to their earlier live songs, I recommend you ''Enter (Live At Pukkelpop)'', ''The Dance (Live At Pukkelpop)'' or ''Our farewell feat Gea Gijsbertsen'', all of them from their first DVD recorded called Mother Earth Tour
There was a six-minute orchestral overture at the very beginning of this concert; if you search TH-cam you can find some versions of Jillian that clock in at about 12 minutes and they include the opening. WT usually tours North America about every 3 years. I think they were last in Toronto back in 2019. WT has official concert DVDs for their Mother Earth Tour, Silent Force tour, Heart of Everything tour (this Black Symphony concert plus a bonus 2007 concert), The Unforgiving Tour (Elements, on their Let Us Burn DVD) and their Hydra tour (Let Us Burn). All have something to offer. I particularly like the early stuff
It's so hard to believe that she was very sick during this performance! Poor Sharon probably chugged as much cold medicine as she could until her voice came back.
You've still got a ways to go in this concert tho! :D Following ones if I'm not mistaken (in this order): - The Howling - Stand my Ground - Hand of Sorrow - The Cross - What have you done - The Heart of Everything - Forgiven - Somewhere -The Swan Song - Memories - Mother Earth - The other half of me - Frozen
The last concerts were the US-tour with In Flames in 2018/2019 as far as i remember. Sadly no videos with decent audio quality from that tour. Besides that they played a lot of European festival stages. Also not very good audio quality except Wacken 2019, which is decent. They'll do a virtual concert in July and some big tour with Evanescence in 2022 (postponed twice so far thanks to Covid).
Jillian is a beloved classic. You can almost be sure they'll perform it in every concert. ( same goes for Icequeen and some others ) 06:55 This concert was one of the kind, the first they did with a symphonic group i think. Everytime they have a tour to promote a new album, they do a lot of cities in Europe and most of them are regular concerts in regular concert halls, but for the end of the tour, they always do a couple of dates where they go all out with effects, featurings and all in hughe halls, just like Elements or Black symphony. I may be wrong on certain points because i'm only talking about my personnal experience and i haven't followed every single performance they did. Personnaly i've watched them most of the time in decent concert hall in Paris ( almost 7000 sits ) but i've been to bigger concerts with bigger budget like Black symphony and it's not the same at all. The tickets are more expensive but it's worth every penny, like you can imagine.
They did this show and I think the elements show with the symphony orchestra. I was at this one. Other times they just use a backing track. Sadly in the newer songs they don’t use so much of the angelic vocals anymore, I always like them. But he new music is also great, they keep evolving which is good. They are also doing a virtual concert next month! Just like nightwish. Whilst nw was set in a fantasy/steampunk type surrounding, wt are doing a futuristic look. Sharon also did a love stream acoustic session on her Instagram last year; it was great she is really nice. This song always makes me think of the fantasy books written by Katherine Kerr. But maybe that’s just because I was reading those when this album came out and the main character is called Jillian.
I'd suggest the start of the Elements concert - Iron th-cam.com/video/KuMB2pTsZP0/w-d-xo.html to 11:13m. From the Black Symphony: Somewhere - th-cam.com/video/ScjEJRIZGvg/w-d-xo.html or The Howling - th-cam.com/video/3EwGiLC0SJQ/w-d-xo.html
The one I went to here in Cali no symphony but this last tour they came with 2 other bands it was pretty cool. I feel like they save the symphony for Europe since they are bigger there
The black symphony was a single venue actually. They had about 60 members in the orchestra and the props included amongst others 400m² in video screen surface. The logistics, time needed and money involved to do a production of that size is insane. Did a few months of scaffolding for stages and during that peroid we had the buildup and breakdown of a similar sized production. Just the stagecrew and everything involved accounted for 500-1000 people at all times. While we started breaking down the set, another same sized team was already building up the next set (think in canada) while we where preparing to ship everything to the aussies. So you really need multiple stages + multiple crews + an orchestra that can join in for the duration of the whole tour...

You are si right, Sharon is also my favorite. She has the voice of an angel.
I've been seven times at their concert, they are amazing!
Every time I cried as I was coming back from a concert.
This is the best band in the world
Have this Blu-Ray. It's an awesome production. Has to be one of the best concert ever. Love Sharon. Her voice is just so Angelic.

@@AntoniahCH yeah! I know. She's so talented in many ways!!! Love Sharon 🤘🏻💕
Yes she's magical:)
And I think I was at their last concert, Appelpop September '19, and it was even free!!!
The most important song you're missing is Somewhere, a must!!!

Sharon went to school for design so she probably designs her own.
Yes, the outfits in which she appears in her concerts and videos are designed by her.

This was indeed a special show, they have some others on TH-cam, one professionally filmed from the Hydra show. Definitely check it out!
