  • Mindy Morgenstern was a senior attending the Valley City State University in North Dakota and came from a farming family that resided almost 200 miles to the West in Little Blue Salem. She lived off-campus in an apartment building close to her university, a place surrounded by law enforcement officers which guaranteed her safety as she lived alone.
She was described as a happy soul, generous with advice, and always willing to stand by her lfriends, the traits everyone needs in a friend. She was considered the more responsible one among her friends, one of whom was Tony Bauman who was in a fix and needed Mindy.
On the night of September 13th, 2006, Tony was out with another friend named Danielle and the problem was that her boyfriend didn’t like her hanging out with other girlfriends. And as he started calling her, Tony came up with a cover story.
Unlike her other girlfriends, Mindy was the safe and trustable friend, but Tony’s boyfriend felt that something was up, so he asked to speak to Mindy, who wasn’t there. The two had no choice but to get Mindy from her apartment to keep their cover story intact.
As they were going to her apartment, they tried to call her and get her ready, but she wasn’t picking up
When they reached her apartment around 1 a.m., Danielle stayed in the car while Tony went to her apartment, only to find something sinister had happened.

It is alarmingly easy to become a C.O. The requirements and background checks differ from county, state, and city, but it is simple to get hired as there is a shortage of C.O.s everywhere in the U.S. A lot of places will even have the new hires on the job BEFORE background checks are returned.

I don’t think the old man, the ex boyfriend’s dad, was being weird at all. He formed a bond with his son’s girlfriend and wanted to leave a voicemail to hear her voice once he found out he’d never hear it again. He seemed totally distraught and sincere.

I don't think there was anything
about the ex boyfriend's dad that was unusual or out of line. I think he had a bond with her and looked at her like a daughter which is very telling by the way he called her "kid"
On the voicemail. I think the accusations the narrator made about that man were extremely distasteful. I have a bond with my daughters ex boyfriend and still talk to him and call him son and he calls me mom. I would be completely distraught if something ever happened to him!

I looked this case up and they said they also found a broken knife in her neck. He ended up pleading guilty for the sexual assault. Other women in the jail came forward and said he sexually assaulted them when he was a correctional officer. Then the first trial for the murder of Mindy was deadlocked. He was retired and found guilty. Wow. What a monster.

Many times, the guards are simply criminals that haven't been caught........ yet. Of course, the majority of CO's are excellent people with high morals and good character, the problem is that there aren't enough good people that want to work in that environment.

Cutting someone’s throat isn’t always fatal so yes you should always check for a pulse. I was a paramedic for 10 years and I’ve had 2 patients with their throats cut. One was from a forklift accident that left his throat badly cut from ear to ear and it cut a large hole in his trachea and the other had her throat cut after her boyfriend or husband attack her cutting her throat from ear to ear nicking her trachea. Both had severe and life threatening cuts but both were conscious and alert and both survived especially since their jugular veins and carotid arteries weren’t severed. Cutting someone’s throat even from ear to ear isn’t an automatic death sentence. The patient I had who was attacked begged me to not let her die. She had major bleeding but not enough to kill her and the other patient had very little bleeding but did have a huge hole in his trachea

You keep pointing out that it's strange that someone would check the pulse of someone with their throat cut is in and of itself strange. If their head is still attached you should check their pulse. You can't know if someone is dead or alive just visually you need to confirm it, I'd much rather someone check to see if I am dead rather than just assume I am and not render aid.

"Why did he check for a pulse if it was obvious that her throat was cut?"
Just to point out; one should always check for a pulse even then, as a cut throat is not a guarantee to be fatal, as it depends on various factors such as how long ago it was cut, depth of the cut, et cetera.
There are a number of people that have survived such ordeals; one famous case is that of Alison Botha.

Jailers for sheriffs departments are often wearing the same uniforms as deputies, are often called deputy jailers and it's often a pathway to become a deputy sheriff. They are often post cerified lacking arrest powers and powers to cite, but otherwise are law enforcement officers. Prison guards in GA are POST certified as they are in MA y states. POST.. peace officers standards training cert to be a police officer.

It’s always entertaining to see people who are guilty as sin for a crime that will send them to prison for life think they are fooling professional detectives who hunt killers down for a living. Some guy is saying “I believe you did this, and you will serve 90 years in prison” and they can’t keep the act going. You should be standing up slamming your feet down, but they don’t mind all that much. If there’s any time in your life to try and sell your innocent, at least put more effort than you’d buy a steak or put gas in your car. But they all think they are smart
