- HARD TEACHING | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (August 25, 2024)
We are on the Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today’s gospel presents the conclusion of Jesus’s discourse on the bread of life. On this occasion Jesus asks the Twelve: “Do you also want to leave?”
Some followers of Jesus already left. They found Jesus’s teachings unacceptable. “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” they said. They returned to their old ways, “and no longer accompanied him.” Jesus is aware of their unbelief, and so he asked those who remained if they also wanted to leave.
Friends, the same question is being presented to us, every day. Do we want to leave Jesus when his teachings are not of our liking? Do we cling to him like the Twelve, in spite of difficulties and failures, because we know he possesses the Word of Life? May we be always convinced that Jesus is God’s Holy One, and in choosing him we will never go wrong.

What is hard about the word "shake the dust off your sandals." It is very easy to take it as a command to change or leave behind the old ways that man had been following before Christ . What makes it hard is the word "different strategy"
Lord Jesus Christ, you have the words of everlasting life. Help me to cast aside all doubt and fear so that I may freely embrace your word with complete trust and joy. I surrender all to you. Be the Lord of my life and the Ruler of my heart. May there be nothing which hinders me from trusting in your love and following your will. Amen.

One who find Jesus ' teachings hard is the one who cannot shake the dust off his sandals
Mahal na Poong Itim na Hesus Nazareno, manalig ka ang liwanag at ligaya ng himalang tagumpay sa iyo. Amen.
People are asking God's help for better life because they have not received the bread of life
Because having faith in the Eucharist or bread of life is a gift from the Father and for those who have given this faith, need to ask the Father for others to have it too:
“Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe
and the one who would betray him.
And he said,
"For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me
UNLESS it is granted him by my Father."
Men who find Jesus Christ's teachings hard are the men who just want to eat the bread without observing all His commandments
Men who find Jesus Christ's teachings hard have not eaten the bread of life
The bread of life are the spontaneous fruits of the seeds sown by the sower on the land.Unfortunately men find the seeds hard teachings because men cannot shake the dust of their sandals and resorted to different strategy
Hard teaching on this context is about Jesus taught eating His body and blood literally… “50This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.””
What is the reason why wives and husband's submitting to one another is proclaimed as hard teaching? This proclamation lends substance to the truism that foolishness has reason of its own which reason does not know
Hard teaching contradicts the word of the Lord when Jesus was was transfigured whereby He is shown bright as the sun and dazzling white
Proclamations of hard teaching is in essence making fun and ridiculing the word incarnate
