It was surprising but I think it gave an insight into how some people become these haunting spirits, what motivates them or creates them in the first place which is very useful to me as it humanizes them and puts them into a context where they're not just monsters - but abused and therefore, mutated, humans. People who suffer so much abuse become mentally ill, perhaps even after death and when combined with psychic powers, they can become a menace. At least in that universe, of course. But that also gives some insight into how they can be defeated and changed back if we understand how they became that way in the first place.
Not confirmed. My head canon. She was a ballerina who became pregnant. Father left so she took care of the baby. End up owning money. Had to sell herself and do odd jobs to survive. It was ok cause she had her daughter. But she couldn’t get the thing she want for her daughter. So she took some of the money to buy her daughter that dress. They come and take the daughter a payment.
I think you're right, that's my read too. I have to wonder what became of the daughter ultimately and if she is someone that maybe will come up later in this series. Or if it's just another tragic story that sits beyond the scope of the show.
@ there a panel in the manga showing the mother and daughter walking off in to “the light.” I don’t think there going to be closer on that point. Those I’d love to see it.
@@Serconley Thanks for that, they should have included that but maybe they intend a plot twist. I don't read manga myself so I wonder how often plot twists/deviations might occur.

I like the manga version of this episode better
