    What were the sails made of?

    • @lbecattinilb
      @lbecattinilb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plastic.

      They were made of wool boys and girls.

      Mike Nottis that is what I’ve heard, but those sails didn’t quite look like it. I wondered is the warp might have been flax or nettle making it linen which is tougher when wet but not as easy to spin and ply as is wool. For a sail for a dragon boat the combination might be good.

    I guess they never ate, slept, pooped or pissed on a viking long ship?

      The ocean and river can actually serve all those purposes no? Just bring clean water and some emergency food.

    • @GnosticAtheist
      @GnosticAtheist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fish and emergency supply of food. Water was a problem, they had some but probably needed rain to supplement it. Sleeping was no issue plenty of space, perhaps a problem when going back with plunder. They had an amazing toilet called "the sea".

    Did Finland have Vikings?

    • @nadiaparamita101
      @nadiaparamita101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No,I don't thinks so.Even their language is different.

    • @5udaf10prsentation8
      @5udaf10prsentation8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      today, definetly since some vikings settled there

    • @Mbrace818
      @Mbrace818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They settled there later on, I think. But they weren't native to Finland. The Finns had their own language that wasn't Germanic, and their own mythology.

  • @tmdpc

    Where and how could somebody possibly sleep on those things?

    • @tmdpc
      @tmdpc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      e causey True enough, I guess there may only be two shifts like 12 on 12 off, seems like the sleep one might encounter crossing the freakin ocean in one of these things might be awful.

    Wonderful. Fast & efficient design & construction. Was there any way of covering all or part of the deck to shed water in a storm? I’ll bet they had to do a lot of bailing.

      I would imagine that they could erect a simple tent that would work well enough. If your at sea your not staying dry

    • @defoperator7993

      I’m sure they tried to avoid storms all together by having good meteorologist skills and I know they only went on pirate missions when it was summer

    I am the soul of RAGNAR LOTHBROK . I remember well my time in 860 AD when we wanted to conquer the world . but even we were limited in our power , for our epoch lasted only 250 years , then we perished or settled somewhere . people , it was a beautiful time that will never come again . our souls now live in vahalla with the gods who take good care of us . when we look at you here on earth , we wish never to come back to this world . you do not have beautiful times , and it hurts us to see what has become of humanity . no honour , no backbone . i wish you a beautiful life in spite of everything . your RACKNAR LOTHBROCK of valhalla

    It must have taken them ten years to build each boat taken into consideration tree felling. taking it to the assembly area, feeding the workers, cutting the wood, trimming the wood, building the boat, smithing the iron nails, raising the babies of the group, hunting the elk or deer or whatever to feed the group, and then assembling it. Wow.

    I didn't know vikings know to speak English language! I think the story have more credibility if the producers make the film in them language, english is not an universal language, is just my opinion.

    • @tylerdurden6937
      @tylerdurden6937 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well its on youtube, which was designed by people who speak English...

      you've seen the series? the speak nordic languages, but it's english for us. When they meet other nations and foreign people you hear them speak the old nordic language

    • @catalinbadea7497
      @catalinbadea7497 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tylerdurden6937 still if is for youtube l think the producers was better to create this "film" in them language, but l know is easier to make in english, some people think is an easy language and universal, globalisation. Is just my oppinion.

      They're showing clips of the TV show Vikings. Only the audience hears it as English, but they're speaking Old Norse. When there's scenes when they meet foreigners, we hear their actual main language.

    • @ToreDL87

      By all the time they spent in England they would have learned English, wouldn't they?

    This is sooo deceptive! No one has EVER seen a viking longboat! They only found a piece of wood that had originally been a viking ship however, although preserved under the sedement at the bottom of the water, was totally crushed!!! They than asked an artist to paint a vicking ship, he said how do I do that when I never saw one? They told him, if you were a viking, what would your ship look like? He painted a painting from his imagination and they than took the crushed wood, pressed here, added pieces there and viola! A viking ship!!!??? How do I know this? Because the people in Scandinavia, including the museum who printed the book sold neer the exhibit clearly state this as they are simply honest people!!! It’s ALL science fiction!!! Stop the lies!!!
