    A window in that outer airlock would be a nice touch!
    Edit: mayby add some helmets in the airlock. So it appears they could change outfit there.

      Yep, I mentioned this in another comment too. You want to keep the suits in the airlock cause they'd get caked in dust.

    Some kind of clear domes within the moons surface where you could look down into the underground rooms would be really nice

      That would help with the lighting problem also.

    • @SymphonicPoet
      @SymphonicPoet ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was thinking the same thing. The lighting problem is what originally brought the idea into my mind, as I've done something similar to create "lights" inside a starship model I use to shoot miniature photos, but with the moon base skylights could also add a really nice element to the surface of the build.

    Maybe a pressurized tunnel system between moon base elements? Could provide the color you are looking for on the moon surface. Also, would love to see more of the design process behind those MOCs in the base itself, especially the bio-dome type structures. Anyways, looks amazing as usual!

    • @levinche

      Do you mean transparent tunnels? that would be awesome

    • @sheep1ewe
      @sheep1ewe ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the idea too! Either transparent with rounded profile, or the sections with aircraft like small windows, i think the round ones with more glass would look more modern. I don't know if this type of parts are still available, but perhaps adding in a system of thermo well tunnel system which extracts heat from below the surface of the moon would do. (Not as easy as on earth, but i think i think it would work in theory on the moon as well, however one probebly had to drill a lot deeper or use some kind of future thermonucler drilling method in order to achive that since the moon does no longer hawe any volcanic activity, but it still has a molten core as the Earth.)

  • @DingusDingus
    @DingusDingus ปีที่แล้ว +536

    Definitely have paths / walkways. Dust on the moon is a HUGE problem so having paths would reduce the dust issue. Plus it would make the base look more developed. I do love the nod to the old Lego Space. I could see the Galaxy Explorer touching down on that landing platform. I have a soft spot in my heart for old Lego Space. I cheered when Benny was able to finally build his spaceship (spaceship SPACESHIP!!!) in the Lego Movie.

      Yes, It would look better with paths

    • @levinche
      @levinche ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you cannot overestimate the dust problem on the Moon. And hence this is why you need a dressing room between the airlock and the lab! (also, it seems that the lab is not pressurised: the plants are under glass, the guys walk with the astronaut suit on... what is the airlock for, then?)

    • @theapexsurvivor9538
      @theapexsurvivor9538 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@levinche also, there's water for use by the astronauts as well as the plants, but no way for the astronauts to draw that water (no faucets, showers, external pipes to move it to another facility where those things might be present). So unless that stuffs where the open wall of the base is, we've got some very smelly astronauts (also some very contaminated experiments as they can't easily clean their hands).

    • @theapexsurvivor9538
      @theapexsurvivor9538 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And more than just lunar dust, you also have to consider that uneven surfaces aren't good for moving across quickly, and may result in sprains and other injuries during a prolonged stay. Suits mitigate that a little, but anyone doing construction or engineering knows that PPE is not your first line of defence. Roofed or pressurized walkways with guide rails are a must in this kind of environment.

    There's sadly no real-life reference yet, but in games those walkways on the surface usually have some kind of guard rails alongside them and they're also usually elevated. Might be neat to play around with, I personally definitely think it makes more sense than walking on the lunar surface.

    • @klaykid117
      @klaykid117 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    • @WasatchWind
      @WasatchWind ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well no real life reference is a bit of a stretch. We don't know everything that'd be present in the structure of a real Moon base, but there are many concepts on how to do it. I think it makes sense to have capsules with plants on the surface aswell. It would then act as different stages of the experiments; stage 1 - microscopic observations and trials, stage 2 - growing the seeds and saplings inside the lab, stage 3 - see if they survive on the surface. By this logic you could also add "failures" where there are capsules with dead plants inside on the surface, and astronauts could be transporting capsules, or capsule parts, across the surface. I just think the surface capsule idea have a lot of potential for the overall story, plus like you said, it adds contrast. Keep up the good work! :)

    - lego people chasing an escaped alien
    - alein spying on people from under a rock

    As others have mentioned, Lunar Regolith is a big issue on the moon. Due to the lack of flowing water to smooth each particle, it's actually extremely sharp, which can damage space suits or equipment (Apollo astronauts actually suffered from scratched-up visors) or be a serious health issue to get on you or especially breathe. It is also electrically charged, sticking to almost everything it comes into contact with (Like a balloon to your hair), meaning it gets everywhere. Not only would walkways tie the moon base together, it's also likely a quite realistic solution that would be used.
    I'd also like to suggest (If you don't already have plans for all the base sections) building an ice mining/refining station. Not only can ice provide water, but it can also give oxygen and hydrogen for rocket fuel!

    Some notes from someone who somewhat works in the space industry (building a satellite):
    - I wouldn't put the plants on the surface because of the radiation dose they would receive. That's why I really appreciate the underground part of the base, as it's by far the most realistic. Regolith works great for radiation shielding.
    - As far as color and surface decorations go, I would recommend a lot of infrastructure like pipes and tanks you already have. Possibly discarded crates (since it's a lot easier to just leave them on the lunar surface than to launch back up)?. They could be color coded for different contents like water, food, fuel, oxygen, waste, etc. Also, if you look at the Apollo landing sites, there is a ton of stuff laying around. Most of it was junk, but a lot of it was science experiments (many of which looked like junk, tbh). I think having a bunch of random science experiments would be a fun build, and it would fit the science and discovery vibe that comes with space exploration.
    - The paths are a better idea than you may think. Lunar regolith is basically tiny shards of glass, so any amount of time you can avoid walking on it is a good thing. One thing to note: lunar regolith getting into bases isn't great, but I don't think the solutions would fit well with the great retro aesthetics.
    - Bonus: an alternate way of launching things that works REALLY well on the Moon is the railgun technique (which I think could be a fantastic and fun build).

    I found your channel a week or so ago, and while it's been exciting and great to see all the progress, I'm now in the same sad boat of the others of waiting for these wonderful weekly uploads. You made my week so much better, I hope your dream museum works out!

    This is such a neat build! It would also be cool if you could make a tiny observation platform going from the lower level onto the removable top plate. Not something big or extravagant but enough that they could pop up and look around without having to use the airlocks.

    An idea for the museum so you could show off interiors to the public: hire a professional photographer to make some very nice pictures of some nice interiors, which you could then print out and hang somewhere in the museum

    Yes, on the paths question, although it wouldnt add much purpose currently the moon surface is still quite bare. In my opinion i think it would add some nice looking contrast. love ur builds and they look amazing!

    pads with sience expirments next to them seem like a nice idea. this would also bring some color and contrast that this build could use i think

    I'm sure LEGO people would NOT have the funds to build roads on the moon, BUT As in the forest when hiking, I'm sure the moon base would have some kind of beaten paths that can be easily distinguished from the rest of the moon surface. That is my 2cents.

    I think if you want to have outside vegetation, have like a row of it near the moon base, next to other scientific equipment. Thus you could imagine that it's experimenting with how vegetation handles the radiation, and that it's getting air piped in from the base.
    Also, in the airlock if you have the space, you might want to add a suit storage area. On the Moon in real life, they had an immense problem with dust, and in most plans for future Lunar exploration, they've designed concepts to keep the dust out of living spaces.

    From a logistics perspective, paths on the moon make sense for the same reason we have concrete paths where we could easily traverse grass:
    It's easier on the feet,
    It makes transporting things less complicated compared to rough terrain (1/6th the gravity isn't weightless, after all)
    And it helps add visual style which, were I on the moon, would help break up all the grey wasteland everywhere.

    if you want to add color to the surface you can use color cadings for specific structures. Like have a research part that has blue in the walls, a vegetation thats has green, an garage that has red. also makes it easier for future visitors to see what is what.

    What Ithink is best for walkways is a solution used in the arctic irl: trail marker poles with lights on them and cables between, as a guide without a physical trail.

    I remember that there used to be a lego brick that would glow only when the button on the back was pushed in, you could try using it in a way where the base cover pushes it in whenever it's closed

    As for the paths, What about creating a trough in the moon surface to indicate wear but not give a different break for a built path. Something more natural and worn on the surface .

  • @TWISM1337

    Really nice build! A nice metal walkway with some railing and lights would absolutely draw a bit more attention to the lab entrance, and fill that area out a bit! You'll probably want to add some sort of access panel to the entrance though?
    A separate idea - "filling" the water storage with a layer of transparent plates closer to the top might make it a bit more easily readable as water storage, and you could do something interesting with a pipe passing through the surface of the water down to the bottom, to give it a bit of depth?
