You can't do anything without proof of address in this country. In your case, you either need to go to the Police station and make an affidavit that will serve as proof that you stay there or go to your ward councillor to get a residential letter. Beacuse it might just happen again should you need to apply for things like loans, store accounts or jobs.

Hi Mibi. Next time you need to use your husband’s documents as your proof of residence, have him write a letter stating that he lives with you at so and so address and attach both your passports as well as his proof of residence to the letter. They usually accept that.
The best and easiest way to get a proof of residence is to get registered with SARS, you wont be able to do anything without paperwork in this country and your name must be on the paperwork
