Always a relief to find the "smokin' gun" - - - great work by both of you, recognizing there's a problem then finding the cause - and then - confirming the smokin' gun in the EG temp data. Excellent following along as you showed us the worsening problem right in the data itself Chief - great to know the issue wasn't so serious as to sideline the car for an engine break down - - and hey, seeing the inside of the oil pump was a real curiosity hang over from the first post, cool to confirm that although perhaps not perfect, the pump was not the primary cause - - thanks you guys.
I love it. I watch 6 or 7 channels on YT, this being 1 of them. And I don't ever watch tv anymore. With entertainment like this, I don't need tv. You 2 are very fun and interesting to watch. I've been racing with my fam since 76'. Dad was a bracket racer, like Jackie's, but I kinda went the way of Justin myself. I like the grudge/street thing. Bracket racing is too expensive to be that boring lol.
Amazing to see that just close up the oil passage like that in the adjuster. The oil bypassing the adjuster had to be taking up a lil more space but not enough...data is king.
I remember 30+ years ago my little 327 with a huge cam spun a couple of rod bearings..lost oil pressure bigtime...when I took the engine out and valve covers off I saw a whole bunch of bent pushrods..blew my mind then.. their engine components here are so much better but pushrods do wear out after many high rpm passes.. glad you guys got it figured out Chief and Jackie.
JACKIE, YOU ARE A COOL CAT 🐈. The pushrod discussion was hilarious 😂 😆. I love how Jackie is old school AND leans towards blue collar decisions. She doesn't need things all fancy, just tough, reasonably priced, and gets the job done. Plus, cracking jokes on people's white collar treatment towards Big Chief is priceless, so friggin funny 🤣. Big Chief getting all the space age metal alloys from NASA and Jackie gets the old school cool. We love ya Jackie, keep being cool and real. Big Chief, keep shining bright, being fun and entertaining. Keep up the good work 👍😁. Great video 📸. Thanks.
I probably will never afford to race and afford the maintenance requirements of this level of drag racing but it is most definitely nice to learn something and develop diagnostic abilities from someone who does and can. Killer video as always. Makes me glad my sub 6 second 1/8mile truck has stayed together without issues for 300 passes lmao
Justin dude you are amazing person the way you think outside the box all of the time. And your knowledge of everything blows my mind. You and Jackie's channel is so cool to watch and how you diagnose the problem. Absolutely great 2 video's for sure. We are all really getting to know the real Justin and your knowledge of all that you know about Races cars and it is fun to watch. So Thank You for Sharing..
Professor Big Chief solving the root causes of what happens when you grind two metals together. What I learned from this is I would use a stronger magnet now that I know a small magnet may not pick it up. Thanks Big Chief for the lesson and I'm being sincere. God bless and as always be safe.
It's amazing to a old school budget N/A guy like me that you can adjust individual cylinder timing, it's crazy how far things have came along since the late 80's when I was up on things, thanks for the education, and thanks for sharing the info
Applauding the two of you for finding the problem and not just putting it back together and making a possible problem for sure a big problem later . Love the team work and love you guys share . Makes me happy to see u too happy and satisfied that u solved the problem together .J&J whatda say we go racing?
So smart Big Chief! So cool to show us that such a small mechanical failure even shows in the graph as a exhaust gas temperature increase. You're good!
Great find! The beauty of all that data logging and going back to look for problems. And hey - ya got to take care of it just pullin them valve covers haha
Definitely understand the make a bigger problem to find one. I've done some very OSHA unapproved things to find electrical problems........ I work in maintenance.
My dad just lost his fight with cancer on Friday. I would like to thank you and Chief for the videos you put out, my dad and I would watch them together. He was a big fan of you two as am I. Thank you so much for bringing us together to watch you guys haul ass and work on badass cars. Much love and respect to you both ❤️✌️
A little late to this party but im here. Good instincts Jackie, just had a gut feeling somethig wasnt right somewhere. Nice find though, seriously guys.👍👍
I wonder if you guys have seen any of that line2line coating Steve Morris uses? At first i was wondering if it would help the rockers, now im thinking inside of the oil pump as well. I don't know the cost, but i think on my next build, im going to call. Curious about trying it out. Awesome you found it!
I strongly advise to check the lifter(s). When the lifter gets stuck, it starts to bang on the push rod, which then transfers that impact on the adjuster. It also could've clogged the oil feed to the adjuster before it collapsed the conjunction. If your lifter(s) are going out, that will cost you your cam, if you keep running it.
Looks like a lot of moisture in the valve covers. I know the head studs are blind holes but I have had them leak before. I would pressurize the cooling system with the valve covers off. That moisture is how that adjuster ball got burnt up
Watching you guys "pan" thru that oil in the beginning was like my dad and I panning for gold flakes in the backyard. Except we wanted to find something. 😄
Dang. We were both wrong Justin. Glad clear minds were in the shop. If ya would have put it back together, it would be 2 more videos before it was solved. Thanks Jackie!
Big chief I am so impressed. You are so awesome. You are such a technician and a troubleshoot artist. Do you have a anniversary coming up for Jackie? Perhaps you should get her a set of TND rocker arms for an anniversary gift
Woulda bet the farm on pump failure, mostly because I have battelled pump problems in the past. (Not Peterson) My pump in question had the Aids.. Glad you're able to maintenance the issue vs repair a broken engine!! Id have kept running it till the rocker turned purple or it friction welded to the pushrod. LOL
I was wondering if the crow mod was still being us4d as a work bench. Cool to see it up in the air anyway! Glad the "lil mota" wasnt hurt. Thanks for the update. #listener36
That's why I enjoy watching your videos I've learned so much if I found shavings in my oil filter I'd probably still be looking for where they came from , really appreciate you both for your time and hard work 👋 . 😈☠👍✌
Only thing better than one video a week is two in one week. I'm glad its an easy fix for ya. Are you going to get the bore scope out anyway just to peak inside? See how those pistons are holding up.
Thanks bud, Very interesting. Glad you caught it early. You the man cheif!. Hope you guys are well. Give jackie my reguards. Be safe. Love yall❣️ 👍✌️🤘🇺🇲💪 ☠️jersey
2 tuesday in a week!? Say worddd!?! Me likey! 100% watch club Jackie and Big Cheese. Listener #12. Keep up these bamger videos. Edits are getting good jackie!
These behind the scenes videos are as entertaining as the actual racing. Nobody else takes the time to show us this🤘
Agreed 💯 👍✌️🤘☠️
There is no better feeling than finding the problem and solving it. 👍👍
Chief’s troubleshooting is top notch!!! Love the in depth explanations.
Great job of doing detective work... love the show!
You caught that soon enough. Data and pulling the valve covers, etc. was magic. Good Job.
Chief and Jackie..still ahead of the curve 💯💯🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁

Your the man! You dont get a nickname like Big Chief for no reason. Very cool.
"Can't find the problem. let's go make a problem" 😂😂 love it.
Love the sound of crickets in the background. Just a warm night in the middle of nowhere Ok.
Explained very well, thanks for not hiding stuff and being so thorough.

Oh yeah, Miss Jackie and Chief
Very educational Mr. Professor good thing Jackie is persistent. She doesn’t want to tear her stuff up. That’s why you make a great team. Love y’all.

A coffee filter in a funnel works okay when checking drained oil. CRC dry film moly spray works really well on pump gears.
I use ppg auto paint filters. Takes longer than a coffee filter but it catches EVERYTHING
Whattttttttt 2 vids this week? Jackie must of found the camera!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
lolol thankfully we kept making videos when my laptop was down, so we got lots coming 💪🏼

The best part of your guys videos is your camaraderie. Your a such couple that way. Enjoy the hell out of them 😂
Love the fact that Jackie doesn’t quit. You go girl. 👍
We would never side drive (indirect) a sleeve bearing pump, sleeve bearings aren't meant for side loads. That being said, the pump looks OK

Good catch. I was sold on the oil pump. Thought the metal was aluminum
Wow! I for sure though it was going to be the oil pump. Glad you found it and it won't be a tear down. Got to give props to that oil filter system.
I'm set for this weekend of racing. Y'all's videos are just great! Keep em commin Justin! you too Jackie. my wife asked where's the cats today??

Thanks again for the great video. My buddy that builds engines like the T&D products even on expensive engines. They have came along way.
Awesome y'all found the problem I know Chief likes a good challenge and he was going to figure it out. Glad it was nothing major ❤
Major relief i bet. Than having ti pull and disassemble the engine to find nothing. Good catch. 👍
I remember back in 03 meeting up with a bunch of people on Reno and Sara and racing my 85 fox body. Those were good times!
The nutty professor picks the fly poop out of the pepper 😮😮😮

Thanks for a great video and lots of tips and tricks about rockers and data. Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪

Yeah egt is great for tuning nitrous. Good catch! Check the lifters now, unfortunately, may be necessary. Great video.
Nice work with the data logger and putting two and two together. Keep the videos coming.
Double time disassembly with real time explanation. Great combo, keep up the good work
Great to see that there was no major damage. Good content for sure.
Great detective work, definitely a thumbs up moment
Data is irreplaceable.😁 Nice find Chief!
Well that is great . Always good to catch something before it does major damage. Back to the track make some passes Jackie
Those filters are pretty incredible. Good find.
Nice save...never give up until you find the issue...even if it calls for tearing it completely down...piece of mind is much better than a guess?
That data was nice to see being able to see the problem and when it happened.. that should help people down the road

Good work Justin & Jackie 😊
Pump looks good ..normal slight . check clearance , you know from past experience .
