based pretty much on your vid, we got the nomadic 3. it's all opened up but sitting on my workbench in the garage atm (today is day 1), plus we waiting for our rack to arrive. you produced a thorough, enjoyable video of a great product. thanks
We truly appreciate your comment Rudd!! Welcome to the RTT fam and have many great adventures! We also added some grip tape on the steps of the ladder after we made this video. Happy camping!
Thanks for the great video! One thing I might recommend is you can get these little steps that hook into the latch inside your car door, and it gives you a nice big step to reach up (or climb up) on top of your vehicle. Have a look, might help!
Great video, very thorough and super helpful. Still torn on purchasing the annex but this video has definitely helped more than anything in 3 months of searching RTT'S.
Amazing! Welcome to the rooftop tent gang!! Be prepared to get looks and questions from curious strangers. Lol and aww thank you for subscribing. we also give the dog food to homeless people with a dog. 🐶
@@wunderlostbc yes! Omg! Of course they have reflective guy lines hahaha and here we are doing arts and crafts. 😁😅 Going in to the next outdoor store we find. Thanks so much for this!
This was THE most useful RTT review. Thank you! We are picking up an OVS nomadic soon and this video is very helpful. I was wondering if you don’t bring your rain fly can you realistically keep the sleeping bags and pillows in the tent?
Hey Dustin! Thank you so much for your compliment and for watching our video. And you definitely can. We used to keep our 2 feather pillows and sleeping bags in the tent AND keep the rainfly but you really do have to use more force down to compress and buckle everything together. Which is probably not good for the tent if you’re doing this all the time. We decided to take them out to make it a little easier for us since we’re doing this full-time.
@@Dusther210 we are making our way East. We’re from NY so we started there in Dec. then South and around through Texas then up the PNW and now going through mid-US. We are on overland bound but we prefer iOverlander.
@@yvonneandjohn3979 I was gonna say John sounds like a fellow New Yorker Sounds awesome, I’m tuned in! The northeast could really use some high quality overlanding comtent
Absolutely the best rtt review I’ve seen for any tent. I’m currently deciding between the OVS Nomadic 2 or 3. Also, thanks for the links to the other suggested overlanding/camping items in the description. I’ll be checking some of those out. Great video, guys! Thanks.
Wow thank you so much for this big complement Aubrey. We’ve been really happy with the quality of our Nomadic RRT, so you’ll enjoy it either one you choose. Thank you for watching!!
hang a dog light on the lines to see them at night. lots of dog lights, for walking and seeing them in the dark that could work to clip on and off easily
Great review. We have the Nomadic 2. Putting it away is frustrating. We were sent a 2" mattress not the 3" so they are shipping me the correct one. The one night we stayed in it I liked it better than a getting tent.
Thank you for watching. Yea we put ours on in Dec. and been on the road since then, not looking forward when it’s time to take it down. 😁 we’ve seen some video tutorial of people creating some contraption for their RTT to hang above their garage. Not sure how reliable and safe it is.
guys i really like your review. if you can't get or don't like glow-in-the-dark guys, you could probably get some glow-in-the-dark tape and just mark your guys in several locations. i definitely value your relating the 5-min setup. that's key; if the setup took 20 minutes, why have an RTT at all? if anything, your next-morning strike illustrates the durability of your victory rack :-)
Thank you. We have same rack as you and now we ordered the nomadic 3 with Annex. Do you still use your tent, and do you still like the quality and function of the tent? Thank you.
Hi! We have sold our whole set up ..car, tent and everything in it. We used our tent for 9 straight months. Used it almost every day in all weather conditions. We loved it! Next time we will go for a hard shell but OVS is worth it. Only thing we didn’t like is the cover only because we never fully took ours off when using.
There is glow in the dark guy line rope you can purchase. I'm sure you could swap out the stock line for this and lose relatively little. There's probably actually glow in the dark Paracord out there so that would be a super durable solution
great video, i wanted to point out something about your roof top tent, it a WIND BLOCKER, , way s to fix that i have seen a friend of mine , that has a jeep with a roof top tent, and without it , his getting 16 mileage, with it 14 mpg. he made a v- nose to fit on the front of the tent the width of the tent and just 4" above the top of the tent. its removeable before you pull the tent up, and places it back in place before your on your way, he took the jeep to a sheet metal shop and the shop fabed it up. cost was 150.00. s/s plate
Hey Russell, yes you can install the tent facing the rear of the car. The roof rack and the tent brackets crisscross from each other so you’d just have to screw them in a different way so the door is facing towards the trunk. They’d be no extra steps and no extra tools needed. So it’s as simple to install. Hopefully this makes sense. 😆 lol
Not sure exactly what you mean by the groove in the middle of the ladder? But we’ve been using our tent since December and haven’t had any issues with the ladder. Let us know further so hopefully we can help you.
Hey! Unfortunately they don’t have insulation. I contacted them on Instagram. What we do is we bought reflective insulation roll from home debot and that helped tons. we just put it around the poles inside. Plus layering and having a 0 degree sleeping bags.
Great question! To be honest in light rain, its the same process (we have done this a few times), the tent does great with not allowing any water seep in the inside, although some will under the mattress depending on how heavy the rain. If you do pack it up in rain we recommend opening the tent to dry out as soon as possible so that mildew doesnt develop. I wouldn't recommend trying to pack this in heavy rain, it can be done, but it wont be fun haha
@@yvonneandjohn3979 I have been on the fence between the nomadic and Tuff Stuff ranger. Ended up ordering the Nomadic last night after watching your vid....Good stuff
Not to be that person, but its GUY lines (or ropes) not guide. As with many terms and everyday phrases, its an old nautical term... From the Dutch word Gei, which was the rope that attached the sail to the mast! The more you know.
Hey folks! Looking at the Nomadic 4 for full time use. Great video, you guys seem cool! Wrap aluminum foil around the guy lines so they reflect light at night. ☮️✌️
John, I feel like I’m back home in RI listening to your accent! It pops up once in a while. where are you from??!! Love it! Also, would you buy it again, please?
The issue with the weight is not due to quality. I believe it is due to lack of quality. OVS has everything made in China. The quality of the fasteners is low. This is true with the rest of the material causing a heavier weight to make up for it.

Thanks for the review guys, loved it!! I'm getting this one to start.
I use glow sticks for the guide lines at night. Rip a small strip of duct tape for the top and bottom of the chem light and it works perfectly.
I really like this video, very clear and informative, thank you for your great video!😀
To make your guidelines for your tent more visible use pool noodles. More more visible and softer if you run into them
Some 550 has reflective tape woven in it. Does not glow but reflects light

Thanks very much for the informative video, answered a lot of questions I had about setup and takedown of my (just received) nomadic 2, cheers!
Yay! So glad we could help. Welcome to the RTT club!!! Happy adventures!
The Awning? How does that work with both the Tent and the Annex attached?
REI has glow in the dark Paracord. I hope this helps.

Does those straps come with Ovs? Or you have to buy your own straps to strap the tent down when it’s folded
It came with the tent. All the straps were attached, all you need to do is loop it around and Velcro it together. Super easy
Looks just like my Howling Moon Stargazer ;)

Great video. You could use battery operated led string lights on you guy lines.
Get some noodle tubes. And maybe paint them with glow in the dark paint
Can you change the direction that it opens? (E.g. can the anex and ladder be at the rear of the vehicle? )

Do they make a winter liner (insulation) for the inside? Many companies do. I’m so curious but can’t find an answer to this question. Help, please?!

Get glow sticks at the dollar store to hang on your tie-downs. Good to know glow-in-the-dark paint is not helpful. Thanks guys. Good vid.
You can buy glow in the dark paracord on Ebay. It's very reasonably priced.
Is it noisy when you drive?
What is the weight of this tent?
