from the startttt it was so obvious that Jeanette was just a bit too fascinated and obsessed with Kate's life. It never felt like mere admiration. It was CREEPY and WEIRD and I am sorry but I never liked her one bit. There were times where I might've felt a bit bad for her. Times when I could tell she just wanted to fit in.. but then she'd do or say something incredibly odd and just push those feelings right out the window. At the end of the day most characters in the show were right about her anyways so ... it was truth more-so than being mean
it was almost like she wanted to copy/steal over her life similar to the single white woman trope or like Georgina from gossip girl
I agree wholeheartidly, but I had a similiar feeling towards Mallory too. Sure she is not as crazy as Jeanette is but she is messed up too and I do not like her one bit. I also think she did not deserved Kate's forgiveness at the end, although it makes sense since Kate has a bad record trying to figure out who is good for her.
She was so obsessed I thought she had a crush on her at first lmao

I think one moment people overlook as a hint/ foreshadowing is when Martin passes over the scrunchie (object of this girl he’s obsessed with), that he was planning on letting to go of, to Jannette who in turn keeps it and obsesses over the identity.
i can’t help but relate to Jeanette in the earlier episodes because she was kinda like me but she’s completely insane. she crossed so many lines
I’m sry but the only way you should relate to Jeanette is not liking urself and not even that. Just saying and if not explain to me

Before the kidnapping Kate was the nicest person in the world to her. And Kate went back to her nice self when she said Jeanette didn’t see her. Also if Kate were really a mean girl she would’ve gone back to her old friends. She looked disturbed when she saw them talking to a reporter about Jeanette She became a mean girl because of the kidnapping and thought Jeanette saw her

I love the ending so much. And while everyone just kinds hates jeanette, I dont think kate is a saint as well. Sure, she was held against her will, but she also willingly hid when jeanette broke in then got angry at jeanette for not knowing. Then jeanette is just pretty messed up in general. This show did a really great job at characterizing everyone in the show, and made sure nothing was as black and white as we want it to be. Every character is in a gray area, even the protagonists, which is kinda hard to find or do properly in media. I cant wait till season 2 comes out!

I agree. I was so mad at Kate when they showed what had really happened that night. Kate was doing this to Jeanette because she didn't like the fact that Jeanette had replaced her and was weirdly blaming her inside her head.

i can kinda see why you would feel bad, from the jump you can tell her behavior was heavily influenced by her mother who pushed her to fit in and to be like Kate because she was honestly obsessed with Kate mother. Doesn’t excuse Jeanette’s actions tho

This fits this show so well, I knew Jeanette was guilty of some sort from the first episode, the way she carried herself, kinda stalked Kate stole her friends, her boyfriend and panicked mentally when they found out she was alive and finally found. I believe she became all depressed and cut her hair is because she was trying to get sympathy and come front as an “innocent victim” and it worked with some people. I felt sorry for her because everyone thought that she was the the one that saw kate but was someone else and then the last episode it shows that she heard her downstairs and smirked knowing it would be easier getting popular and to steal her life with her out of the picture, hated her way more then before after that. She is a total psychopath and I hope she gets what she deserves in season 2

@mm mmyeah so i just finished it and....that ending was INSANE. my jaw was literally dropped for like 5 whole minutes lmao. and its so annoying because i feel like kate and jeanette could literally have been best friends but then turns out that jeanette is a literally sociopath. like at first i was on team kate for like the first couple episodes, then i was team jeanette all the way until the last 20ish minutes of the show. but WOW CRUEL SUMMER IS SO GOOD

Only thing I saw wrong with Jeanette was her need to fit in. She felt she needed to fit in to be liked and she felt if she was kate she’d be happy ig. Even though it wasn’t Jeanette Kate saw Jeanette still knew. It was wrong to not say anything she could’ve said something, she probably wouldn’t have been with Jaime and had Kate’s friends anymore but she would’ve had kate. If Jeanette would’ve something as soon as she heard kate. Kate would’ve honestly looked past the wanting her life part because that’s who kate was she had so much compassion and she understood. Jeanette would’ve still won if she did the right thing

I can't believe that no one is talking about Mallory. I mean comeon guys....she had some serious issues...always pushing and forcing people for things no one wanted to do in the first place.....and whenever anyone said or didn't she still found a way to shout at them......she needed serious therapy......Jeanette wouldn't have gone in house in the first place if it wasn't for that stupid list made by her.....and Kate on her high horse spoke on national tv of the scene which she wasn't sure about and lied(eye contact) but when she found out that Mallory was there...she calmly went to her, talked and forgave her in few moments.....Kate was pretty unfair in whole series....she lied a lot about the whole thing which she shouldn't have....

From the first episode, I really believed that Jeannette was in love with Kate or at least had a crush on her, but I've yet to see anybody mentioning that. I can really understand where people just saw her idolizing Kate and wanting her life and just stopping there. But what if she had a crush on Kate and truly believed that Kate would like her back if she dressed like the "pretty, rich" girls, and had popular friends? And she was trying to make Kate jealous of her dating her boyfriend? But Jeannette didn't realize that she was actually just stealing Kate's life, and nothing panned out like Jeannette had hoped for. It's a crazy conspiracy that doesn't have much to do with the storyline, but I seriously cannot be the only one who thought Jeannette wasn't acting nervous in front of Kate just because she was popular.
