    I am a 62 year old beginner. I made these slippers. It took me a LOT longer than an hour. I watched your video a dozen times to find out why they would fit the Jolly Green Giant or why the heel had 2 points. I’m saying all this to tell you that I have a craft learning disability and yet with your ever patient and caring voice I MADE SLIPPERS. Thank you so much. Now I’m off to watch another one of your videos. Thanks again Teri

      Mine is enormous. I took everything out and reworked it 3 times. Each time it is super wide, I can't figure out what I'm missing.
      Edit: I figured it out! Fourth time is a charm! I made the mistake of listening through, but not always watching her.

      I recommend putting a loose piece of different color yarn as a marker. So you don't loose your place and make more rows

    If you prefer to use a magic circle to avoid a hole in your toe, remember to chain 2 at your magic circle to make it tall enough for your 10 double crochets. Your chain 2 does not count as a stitch. This is a lovely pattern! Thank you Kristi Simpson for this great pattern and your great guidance! Blessings!

    I've been crocheting for over 50 years and I can say I really like this pattern. For those of you that are just learning, if our instructor doesn't mind, I can give you a tip. Some of you have said your slipper turned enormous. That's an indication that you are a loose crocheter. To fix that you can try 2 things. 1. Tighten up your stitches. Make a practice swatch and just work on getting the same tension with each stitch but tighten them up a bit. 2. The other thing you can do is try using a smaller hook, even if you have to go down 2 or 3 hook sizes. I hope you find this helpful and that you'll get much better results from this pattern. Crocheting is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not frustrating and tense. So try my tips and I'll bet you'll be turning out these lovely slippers for your whole family!
    Now, to my own question. Rather than starting this with the chains and then the 10 dc, why not do the magic ring? That way there won't be any toes peaking out through that starting hole. Just a gentle suggestion. Thank you for giving us your time to show us how to make these darling slippers!

    • @souper.scooter
      @souper.scooter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      She might have chosen not to do a magic ring so you didn't have to work in the tail at the toe. I might use a magic ring instead when I make them though.

    • @souper.scooter
      @souper.scooter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Takpay , a magic ring is making a loop that you crochet into if you want to make round projects. It serves the same purpose as in the beginning when she chained and then slip stitched into the first chain to make a circle, but a magic ring has a tail that you can pull to make the ring more tight so you don't have a hole in the bottom of your project. There are tons of tutorials on TH-cam for how to make one. I know you most likely learned what It is by now, but I hope this helped!

    • @amberstewart2521
      @amberstewart2521 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      I figured it out where we went wrong. For round four she said put a double crochet in each loop, which we read as put 2 stitches in each stitch, not put a single double crochet stitch so that there will only be 25 stitches of the double crochet in each row.

    Still very new to crocheting myself but i’ve managed to make a few pairs with this great pattern!! This may be an obvious fix but i was not aware so maybe this will help someone else too... in order to make the slippers wider and longer (to fit bigger foot sizes) i used a larger hook and added more rows to the middle instead of stopping at row 11. Then when i got the length i needed i just followed up with the heel! Hope this helps anyone who was looking to slightly modify the pattern like i was!

      . I've also made some of these slippers. I made my granddaughter some for saint Patrick's day. Hunter green and spring green the colors. And I'm add crochet four leaf clovers on theam and add gold coins to theam. I'm make me and my sister Dorothy some too for saints Patrick's day. But here is my question. My daughter in-law has a 10.Shoe size. So how many rows do I need to add to the pattern. Im using redheart super saver yarn. I have a J10 crochet hook and a k hook. That's the only too big sizes I have. I have lots little hook but I mostly use the J10 crochet hook and the k hook. Which schould I use for my daughter in-law slippers. I used the k hook for my granddaughter slippers and I'm use the same for mine and my sister. I only had to add one extra row for my granddaughter slippers. I'm probably going to have to add a extra row more for mine and my sister too. How many rows should I add for the size 10? Thanks Mrs Portia Roberson

So in the 4th row when you do 1 dc in each stitch around, I had too many stitches. However when I did 3 dc, then 2 dc, only twice, or in 4 stitches and 1 dc in the remaining stitches, the slipper came out awesome! I ran out of yarn so I could only make one slipper, but I absolutely love it. ( the narrator said by the end of the third row you should have 25 stitches, way more than that by doing the 3dc, 2dc pattern in each stitch all around the 3rd row)

    Hi Kristi Simpson, I am a 74 year old beginner and just want to let you know that I am enjoying your Tutorials very much , but if I were in a Class you were teaching I am certain you would have have asked me to leave your class by now. I am a very slow learner , but thanks to this wonderful Program where I can go back unravel my work and start over and over again until I get it right , I either have my stitches too tight , too loose and I am learning that I can't just use any yarn to make it come out right, but I use it to practice until I at least get the Concept. Your Hour Slipper wound up finally getting done at 2:52 AM when I started at 8... Oh well I think the second one will go much better , and once I get the #5 Yarn it'll be beautiful . I am determined to master this, because I really do enjoy it . Thank you very much

    I just made one slipper for the first time. It took me less than an hour. It fits well and is neither loose nor tight on my #10 size US woman's foot. I used 1.8 oz/50g of #5 ("bulky") wool roving and a 5mm hook if that helps anyone to figure out a guage or how much yarn, etc. Great tutorial! The only thing I would suggest: for those of you familiar with the treble crochet stitch, when you are doing the shell stitches along the top edge and you get to the part across the bridge of the foot (the "7 stitch" section), skip 3 stitches instead of two, do "1 treble, 5 double, 1 treble" in the center stitch, then skip 3 before slip stitching one and going down the other side. The shells will then be symmetrical, will match up nicely at the back and you'll have one little larger shell on the front center.

    To everyone complaining about her going too fast: 1. this is not a video to teach you stitches. If you are unfamiliar with SC, HDC, or DC you shouldn't be jumping into a project. Look up videos on those stitches and learn to do them FIRST. 2. this is a youtube video, you have the power to pause, play, rewind, fast forward and slow down the tutorial to a slower speed.

    I absolutely love simple designs like this! It creates the freedom to be able to play with it to make the size that you want...
    to the struggling beginners, please dont give up and try again. Sometimes with new patterns on you tube it's best to watch the video a few times before ever picking up your hook. Always pause the video between rows and do what you just saw before moving on.
    Remember- When in doubt, stitch it out!
    We learn far more from our mistakes than we do from completing the stitches correctly. Yes, it can be infuriatingly tedious to repeat the same row several times but ALL experienced stitchers and especially the people that make these videos RIP and redo all the time. Its apart of the learning process and it's ok. You are not any less talented for it, as a matter of fact it WILL make you better. Most of the stitches and favorite patterns I've made came from messing up other projects and it just clicked! Be patient with your patterns and yourselves. It will work out :-)

      I was following a different tutorial and was so confused, the instruction was to 'keep doing the same' from rows 3-9! Didn't make sense, it'll just keep being a bigger circle if you're doing two in every stitch! It's funny that more than one tutorial has that issue, glad I'm not the only one confused lol

    I made my first ever pair of slippers with this tutorial. I ended up using worsted weight yarn and a size J hook. I made them for my SO and added 2 rows in the heel section to accommodate his larger foot. The first slipper took me a couple hours of stopping and staring the video, but the 2nd went so much faster. Thankyou for the easy to follow instructions. I also just did a straight half double crochet edging that peaks in a treble crochet where the tongue of a shoe would be to create a straighter/more masculine edge.

      @@UnicornDee thank you I was wondering this too. I’ve been knitting for about a year, but I’ve just started learning to crochet in the last week or so, and besides a simple couch throw blanket, this was my first real project! It took me almost exactly 2 hours to do one slipper but it turned out amazing! (I skipped the scalloping on the edges.) I’m naturally a tight knitter and that worked in my favor for these. On to the second, which I’m sure will work up much faster now that I know what I’m doing.

      The heel directions start at Row 12, so to make the sock longer (to fit a bigger size), I just keep adding rows until I get the necessary length, and then I do the Row 12-19 directions. Row 3 makes the sock bigger around by adding 5 stitches, so if you need the sock to fit a "fatter" foot, just repeat Row 3 directions as many times as you need until you get the diameter to fit the foot. Likewise, if you're making the sock for a "skinny foot," you can delete the Row 3 directions, and just continue on with row 2 directions. Also, you don't have to use the edging shown in the video. Check out other videos. In some socks I make, I thread a ribbon or piece of yarn around the top of the sock so you can adjust the fit by tying the ribbon/yarn into a bow. This is nice if your feet swell. You can loosen the ribbon to pull the sock on, then tighten it to make the sock fit around the leg/ankle.

    Great!!!! You are a great teacher. I had trouble to start but I took it apart and used smaller hook and tighter stitches and got a beautiful slipper. I used two strands. One regular and one velvet strand. Nice and soft. I especially love the rounded heel because in so many patterns you have the pointed heels which I hate. And also you get a seam in the back on other patterns and I don’t like that either. This is really a nice finish. I’m going to doll it up with a flower on the side. ITS ALL ABOUT THE TENSION!! As usual. Thank you for a great pattern!

      you have to count that you have enough stitches for each round. when you chain 2 it normally would count as one of the stitches in this pattern it does not and fills the gap between your first double crochet and the last. some patterns count the chain builder you do at the beginning of a round and some patterns do not.

      There's a comment thread with this exact information from some other helpful TH-camrs, so I'm just going to copy what they said: one usre suggested to just add a few more rows till you get to the heel of the foot, and another said to repeat on the third row (31 stitches total), then when it came to making the heal/ankle end, ad 2 rows. On the reducing rows, reduce at stitch 6, and on the second reduction row reduce at stitch 4.

    What size slipper does your pattern make?
    Men or women?

      I used #5 wool roving and a 5mm hook and came up with a slipper that fits my #10 women's foot like the pattern was made for me.

    Your video was right on for me. I've made hat's and scarves bit not a slipper. I did add more roews to go above my ankle. My shoe size is 91/2 so I did have to add extra row/round. But it was more than an hour for me. Lol but I did both not 1 first then the other. Thank you very much for your video. I will be do I doing more, dc/double crochet is the easiest,most common. Thank you. I'll post pics later.
