That's one of the reasons Joe was given the role. The writers and producers met Joe and thought he was really funny and witty and enjoyed the banter and repartee between Jane and Joe. They saw the chemistry between them as did we. It was the writers idea to have Joe's character Jack as Annie's father. They loved the way Joe and Katie interacted in real life, they have a special relationship and the writers wanted to use that. It was a very smart move. I loved that Annie was Jack and Prudence's daughter together. The living proof of their love that was never gone, just misplaced.
Okay, this is how it went down. Michaela and Sully broke up, twenty-five years later Dr.Mike got her own show and by surprise Sully becomes the new producer. Kinda like Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner.., from Romancing the Stone to War of the Roses. : )

Funny Joe's character here being a good cook...if I'm not mistaken he started his career working as a cook while taking acting lessons.
I love how protective Jack was of Annie. Michael was being very creepy with her and he had every right to be concerned.
