    The full moon and hot air balloon festivals are out of this world. Great video!

      Oh cool! We hadn't heard about either of these. Those would be so fun to see in real life. We'll keep an eye on the schedule and hopefully we'll be able to go back some time. Thanks for letting us know! -Brian

    I grew up in Lovington NM and remember visiting white sands as a kid! Loved sand boarding and spending time there. Great video guys and White Sands is a National Park now! We were so excited about that news.

      That's so cool to hear! Glad it's been upgraded to National Park status. It definitely deserves it. -Brian

    We used to live in Alamogordo and we always went to white sands for day trips

    Gypsum sand is easier to walk on than regular sand and doesn't get as hot because of it being nearly white.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, yeah it was really nice to walk on. Too bad the air was so hot!

    Love your early morning shots of the white dunes...saw a video taken by another U Tube couple with a drone...really high up there....May be something for you two to think about for your next trip....Must be really nice to have the whole place to yourselves!!!!Hank and Pam from South Texas..

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've thought about it, and I will probably get a drone at some point, but most of the places we visit prohibit drones, including White Sands. That other couple's video you saw either filmed it years ago before all National Parks banned drones or they just ignored the rules. We really try to follow all the rules wherever we go. -Brian

    • @hankbern9847
      @hankbern9847 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerfectLittlePlanet….I think they ignored the rules!!!!!We really enjoyed our time at White Sands and also at Valley of Fires ...Have you guys ever been to Monument Valley, Bryce N.P, Arches N.P, Canyonlands, Horseshoe Bend, Sedona....We really enjoyed those spots!!! Haven't viewed all your videos yet, so you probably have.....Hank and Pam!!! And good for you going by the rules!!!

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We haven't been to Monument Valley or Horseshoe Bend, but we've been to and loved all the others you mentioned. We actually have videos from Arches, Canyonlands, and Sedona. I'm sure you'll see them eventually. :) -Brian

    • @hankbern9847
      @hankbern9847 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should have mentioned....if you guys go to Monument Valley, there is a 17 mile dirt road that is pretty rough and we don't think your little car would survive.....really beautiful though....you will think you are in the old West...

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet

    My wife and I live 20 miles from White Sands, and we love it. So glad you had such a good time. You guys really enjoy the natural places you visit and that's so good to see in this age of video entertainment and giant man made theme parks. They're fun, too, but nothing beats getting outside to see spectacular natural places, and your enthusiasm is contagious. Thanks for making this awesome video.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed, we LOVE natural places like all the national parks and unaltered landscapes. This world is so pretty and so amazing, and we feel so lucky to have been able to explore so much of it already. Have you and your wife gone camping at White Sands yet? It's incredible! -Brian

    • @gmaneis
      @gmaneis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We can't camp at White Sands for medical reasons, but love the place, of course. It's great that you share our sense of awe about it. Plenty of other places in this world seem more spectacular, but when you realize the gypsum is water soluble, and about ten natural processes have to happen in a specific order to form the sand, it is mind boggling that it's even there.....plus the fact that only a handful of gypsum dune fields exist. WS, as you know, covers 275 square miles, and the next largest gypsum dune field, near Guadalupe Mts. Nat'l Pk, covers only 5 square miles, well, you get the idea. Thanks again for you awesome video. Safe travels to you.

    • @gmaneis
      @gmaneis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and of course, another mind-bending fact: You can walk barefoot on the white sand when the air temp is 110. The sand reflects all the heat, unlike quartz sand that absorbs it burns your feet!

    • @gmaneis
      @gmaneis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "and" burns your feet!

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't realize that! Yeah, it wasn't nearly as hot as normal beach sand is. That's really interesting! Thanks for sharing! -Brian

    White Sands is remarkable isn't it? I've been there twice and of course it was in my youth and work talking like 40 years ago LOL. It seems that back then camping wasn't allowed but I could be wrong. Either way, I remember them having so much fun and I couldn't get enough of it. Have fun!

      Yeah, this was one of the highlights for the road trip for sure! Such an amazing and beautiful place. I'm not sure how long they've allowed camping, but we were glad they offer it now. Such a great experience! -Brian

    Do they sell sleds nearby? I’m planning on flying then driving so won’t be going with a sled.

    • @cringemeister04
      @cringemeister04 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adrienne Vasquez sometimes they sell the round disks somewhere at the entrance or one of the parking lots but that might not be all the time. When are you/did you go?

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they sold sleds and wax at the visitors center. You can also sell your sled back (for partial price, so it's more like a rental) so you don't have to travel with it! Have so much fun! -Isa

    Which month did you guys travel ? Looks so hot. I’m scared of camping in October as it might be too cold during the night?

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were there in May. It was hot! Surprisingly so...but also not because afterall, it is a desert. All summer long when we camped, we slept with a wool blanket on top of an air mattress to keep the heat in and then a down comforter on top. In the summer! That always shocks me how cold it gets even in summer. I would say that'd you'd be fine in October, especially during the day, just prepare yourself for cold nights ahead of time. The nps.gov website has some info on the temperatures!

    Were the stars at night as amazing as they seem to be in all the pictures online?

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We were there on a pretty cloudy night and rain was in the area, so we kept the rain fly on. But in between the clouds, yes, the stars were gorgeous. I can only imagine it would look just like the pictures online on a clear night. -Brian

      Perfect Little Planet okay thank you!! My daughter wants to see the Milky Way and we are thinking about our first camping trip ever being there. We live in El Paso and have been up to white sands a few times but only during the day.

    • @PerfectLittlePlanet
      @PerfectLittlePlanet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should see it great out there. There's very little light pollution around. Just to make sure though, you know you can only see the Milky Way in the Northern Hemisphere from April-ish to September-ish, right? And it's best in the Summer from May to the end of July. So make sure you go camping in the Summer and not now if your goal is to see the Milky Way. -Brian

    • @cierrabarrera1863

      Perfect Little Planet oh yes I know that! We were thinking April when my husband has some leave time. That feels soon to me trying to prepare since we have never, ever camped before! Hahah we might have to just go twice if it's not super visible in April. Thank you for making sure I knew that though!
