Brenda Dickson’s Jill Foster Abbott (Y&R) Out of Context for 4 1/2 Minutes

- This is normally not the stuff I post. But I’m at a point where I feel I should post whatever I want on my socials.
Backstory: I grew up watching The Young and the Restless as a kid thanks to my mom and my grandparents. As a teenager, I became a regular viewer and recorded the show and watched it when I came home from school.
In my downtime, when I wasn’t catching up on the show’s actual run, I was sifting through old TH-cam videos of the show’s heyday. I learned a great deal about the show’s history during the 1970’s, 80s and 90s.
I became absolutely enthralled with the first Jill Foster Abbott, Brenda Dickson. Unlike Jess Walton’s Jill who I watched growing up, Brenda’s Jill was opulent, melodramatic and campy. Clearly getting her acting chops from either shows like Dynasty, drag queens or both. She was a perfect addition to the show. Nailing deadpan one-liners, throwing out quips and insults to her nemesis, Katherine Chancellor, and sneaking her way up to the top where she wanted to be all along.
Brenda’s Jill was intriguing to watch and made me wish I existed during a time when she was on the show regularly. She was much more exciting, humorous and bitchy than Jess’ Jill.
But thanks to the advent of TH-cam, many clips have surfaced of her run on Y&R. I thought it’d be hilarious to gather up most of these videos and pull the best lines and Brenda-isms to create this rather delightful video.
Of course, if any of the original uploaders would like me to take this down, I will be more than happy to! It’s not my intention to steal, just to showcase my favorite soap opera character and actress of all time!
I might start making these more often if I can. Perhaps next tackling Jamie Lynn Bauer as Lorie Brooks, who was also as dramatic and could even be as campy as Brenda as well!
Now, this is the Jill Foster that I’ll always remember. 🌟She was a terror to Mrs Chancellor.😊

That was the biggest mistake Y&R ever made firing Brenda I can't understand why nobody else would ever hire her.....What a waste

The three actresses who have played Jill the longest, Brenda, Deborah, and Jess have all brought their own unique style in playing the role. They each made Jill their own. All three have been fun to watch. 😊😊

70s Jill and 80s Jill are two completely different people for sure! I’d love to find more scenes of Brenda in the 70s bc I know she had some interesting storylines after the Phillip era

ABSOLUTELY nailed it!!! I miss Devin doing her Brenda impressions but Brenda was quite relentless in how she was against it and I’m almost certain she attempted to escalate the situation and sue her. Regardless, Brenda wasn’t happy and it’s perhaps the reason those videos are sometimes hard to find online. Really unfortunate

I was just a kid when these scenes originally aired (born in February of 1973) and to hear my Mom tell it, Jill was an evil woman who deserved every bad thing that came her way. Watching the key scenes now between Katherine and Jill's relationship timeline, I realize Katherine was just as much (maybe even moreso) to blame for their feud. TeamJillFoster here.

Brenda's entire acting approach changed from her first stint to her second stint. While everyone gushes over the campy '80s version with her overannunciated lines, I much preferred the more subtle approach from the '70s. I know the writers, producers and directors pushed her toward the camp, but geez ...
I loved their rivalry better than any other.
Their jabs at each other were as good as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford at their top form.

Jess Walton is a good JILL, but she doesn’t hold the sexuality that is needed to play JILL!
Yeah she would make Jill her own but in the process, the sex appeal was mostly shed off sadly

I like Jess Walton, but she was never Jill to me. Miss Brenda is Jill!
Brenda was on before my time. But I love the clips of her as Jill and I can say that Jess was never as cutthroat or vindictive and also as dramatic as Brenda was. When she first came onboard, Jess mimicked Brenda a lot but eventually made Jill her own. Still, Brenda is incomparable for sure.

@Tyler Talks! Jess Walton gave an interview with Soap Opera Digest and said that when she took over the role of Jill. The writers wrote her with Brenda's rhythm. You definitely can tell, and at the beginning of Jess's start, she was playing Brenda, not Jill. As the 90s entered. She started making Jill her own, because Jess version of Jill was more of a shrew. Jill had the comedy to her and the business savy and the sexualness, but something was missing from Jess' version of Jill that Brenda brought to life as Jill.
Kay Alden who wrote the show said both ladies brought the essence of who Jill Abbott was.

Lol that channel was started up by a few of my old online friends from tumblr that eventually became my friends on Facebook. We all had a mutual love for Courtney Love so we decided to try to start a channel and just be these kids talking about our lives while also talking about our favorite music with an emphasis on Courtney. Unfortunately something happened and it didn’t carry on like we wanted it to. We all drifted apart and our music tastes changed a lot. I still love Courtney but I’ve since expanded my taste a bit. I still have a couple of the girls on my social media and see their posts on occasion. But other than that, it was something that had a lot of great potential but never really got its foot in the door

She’s still around, mostly being a pseudo socialite on social media. Unfortunately some of her posts are quite… weird? She’s also a trump supporter now, still has a lot of nasty things to say about various people from her past. I don’t really check up on her that much but from what I’ve seen, she’s not very interesting these days. Y&R was basically her peak
