  • You may not be ready for what you're about to hear... I sure wasn't! Today's video features the band Gaucho and singer Tamar Korn performing the song Sing On. I'm not sure what impressed me more - their skills or the way they transported me to a different time!

Isn’t she amazing? Pre-pandemic, I used to see her frequently at various spots, with various musicians, in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I have heard far more than my share of trad jazz - both vocalists and players - and I still can’t think of anyone else quite like her. A singular artist.
Glad you decided to go with this one. I had to watch your reaction/analysis two or three times just to remember everything you said about what you were hearing. It’s hard for someone like myself, who isn’t a trained vocalist, to be able to tell what techniques she's likely employing throughout this piece.
Thanks so, so much for this!

They remind me of Mildred Bailey and Red Norvo in the 30s and 40s.

@@petecogan1 Mildred Bailey, for sure! As for the music itself, though, slightly different style. More Reinhardt than Goodman or Shaw (or even Whiteman or Oliver). Really appreciate comments like yours, which actually address the music, as opposed to "plz react to so-and-so."

The only thing missing is the sound of the cracling of the needle as the recods turns at 78 rpm.

Yep. I closed my eyes and could imagine listening to a 78 playing on my grandparents' phonograph. I can also picture Haley Reinhart singing with Post Modern Jukebox in this sound. Great reaction Bethany!

holy crap this is wonderful, such a vibe! I've run into so many artists lately I've never heard of before (John Farnham the most recent) where I wanna go down deep rabbit holes and now you've added another one to that pile.
also my own vocal journey has given me newfound appreciation for the work and time it takes to figure out how to do stuff like this.
    Great reaction! 🤟

Tamar Korn is the national treasure, I remember when I saw her for the first time back 2007 in New York, at the telephone bar. There weren't any sound system in a little back room of the bar, but her voice was just taking everything back in time. I've seen her gigs quite often ever since. All the recordings of her cannot capture her soul, you'll see if you ever see her gigs.

I'm a big fan of Tamar Korn. She's multidimensional unto herself -- she sings, warbles, pretends to be a violin, and can also tap dance.

Hi Bethany! In this significant day I'd like to wish you happy Easter. This is a very special day. Those who are believers can understand that better. You know when God is doing his thing that shocks everyone. It's God's will. To abide in God's word that asks loyalty; but If I'm not loyal to God you must not trust me, cause i could do the same to you too. If a people don't benefit the blessings of God it's not because of Some people but it's because of some people. Wish me all the best in this day, pray for me. Be blessed.

Just brilliant and definitely not enough of this style of jazz for Joe Public, I’ve heard this 3 times. And each its not enough. 🇦🇺

Almost like Betty Boop brought to life. Yeah, she's good.👏 That bouncy style reminds me of my earliest days of cartoon watching. I was from the Flintstones and Jetsons era, but they used to show old 30's cartoons from my parents era on TV every Saturday morning back then. There was a really great classic called "I Love to Singa". With "Owl Jolson". A parody of a song performed back then in a movie by Al Jolson.

    • @sethcashman1011
      @sethcashman1011 ปีที่แล้ว

That Owl Jolson bit is a classic. Interesting you mention cartoons, as the legendary Vince Giordano said he was inspired to play the music of the teens, 20s and 30s by watching cartoons and listening to the musical accompaniment when he was a kid. Although this is not the only style in which she sings, Tamar has it down better than anyone I've heard thus far.

I wanted to reach out and let you know about two amazing tracks that I think you would absolutely love. Lana Del Rey's "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Bvd" is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases her signature storytelling style and mesmerizing vocals. And if you're looking for something a bit more experimental, Melanie Martinez's "Portals" is an otherworldly track that will transport you to another dimension with its eerie soundscapes and captivating lyrics.

When someone goes on a TV singing show who is really bad and allowed on so they can be an object of ridicule, how can they not hear what is obvious to everyone else?
