    Texas, Vermont, California, and Hawaii were separate countries before joining the US.
    Hawaii was a monarchy for hundreds of years, and the others were short lived republics.

      The Union Jack on the Hawaiian flag is complicated, but Hawaii is the only US State to have a Royal Palace as prior to the the State of Hawaii and the Territory of Hawaii and the Republic of Hawaii, there was the Kingdom of Hawaii whose territory the UK and France agreed not to violate lest they create conflict between them. To this day there are organizations seeking the restoration of the Kingdom of Hawaii.

    • @robgolding3808
      @robgolding3808 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Allama Sadi & Luke Nathaniel. Although commonly referred to as the Union Jack the correct name is the Union flag.

    • @TNBuckeye1617
      @TNBuckeye1617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Rob Golding. True enough, though my point stands that Hawaii did not go from UK territory to US territory to US statehood and that the Union Flag in the Hawaiian Flag does not mean that Hawaii was formerly a UK territory; rather, Hawaii went from the Kingdom of Hawaii to the Republic of Hawaii to the US territory of Hawaii to the State of Hawaii. Hawaii is the 3rd US State to formerly be an independent country.

    Google maps is broken at that area because they're not allowed to directly map China and China scrambles their maps a little bit before giving it to Google, but they are allowed to directly map Hong Kong and Macau, so the meeting between the regular and scrambled maps is kind of weird (I may have gotten some things wrong but I know it's something like this)

    I went to London for the first time in 2016. It was amazing and I want to go back again. I say amazing overall. There were some things that sucked. The underground is so old and really not friendly to old people or disabled. So many stairs. Soho was a huge let down. I avoided the tourist traps like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace but I loved Hyde Park. I need to explore that more, I barely scraped the edge. I believe there are forests and streams deeper inside. I've heard of so many interesting neighbourhoods that deserve exploration. I stayed in a suburb called Chalk Farm, near Primrose Hill. Gorgeous and walking distance to Camden Town (great markets). It's a pity there isn't one main Central Station like in Sydney where you can take a train to anywhere. You have to sometimes take another train to a hub station to get out of London in another direction. Can't wait to explore more.

    The Netherlands also consists of 10+ countries that joined hands and became provinces. One of the countries, Friesland, was once split up into three countries or provinces, Friesland, Groningen and Ost-friesland (the latter was subsequently taken by some germanic tribe I guess not sure).
    We don't just have the ABC islands, but also TV & TAS: Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. There used to be Urk as well, but we took the ocean around it and banished it from the country using black magic to create a 13th province. Ok the black magic part might not be true, but the rest is.

    Google map showed the area near Macau screwed up cos the company didn't agree with the China government and left the country, so the only map data they can get are those purposely distorted by the China government (or with lower accuracy). Strangely HK and Macau maps are accurate though they are part of China

    When you are talking about countries MADE from other countries, it should be few countries signed a treaty or made an agreement to form and function as one country, use one constitutional law. Countries formed through annexation war should not be counted. because almost every country had annexed other countries in the history.
