I'm at 424 and it's been mostly worthwhile so far but at this point I have to ask you. I went to the dealer and showed them my ID and got the key code. I didn't need to ask them because it was imprinted on the cylinder which I removed. Now that I have this code, let us say A123B, what does each digit mean, or where do I enter this to read out a key pattern? Edit: by minute 26: Great video, an important detail I got from another user's comment, must find him an upvote, that there is not only a key code but a tumbler code. You need to ask the dealer for both. Decoding visually is doable however. It was nice to be able to check the fourth digit was for so that I know the number was correct. I've decided to not do it all while I'm sitting in the car, I suppose I'm supposed to take this peening seriously, though I'd think you could just push it in on the corner2s with enough force, I'll apply some kind of blows, though I don't own a valid peening hammer. My only other thought, and I was reading the instructions listening to you, not looking at you, is that the GM installation instructions that came with my GM part? 1920-8680, indicates that you should lately lubricate the outside surfaces in the tumblr area of the lock body and down the key slot. I don't question lightly versus use it all, but I didn't see you, stick the nozzle in either end of the keyway and squirt. Perhaps you do that till it fills up and then you use what remains on the outside? Or do it after with what is left after you glob it on the exterior? Anyway, this deserves millions of likes and many more comments. I want to say that if you cut this video with only the snippets of the action or brief stills of things to look at, you could get this down to a TH-cam short and achieve immortality. I would say tick tock but Chinese people don't get Chevy trucks in China. I imagine very often.
Great video, thank you. I messed up the first time I loaded the wafers, so I had to remove the retainer clip, and do it again. I got it right the second time, but I am fairly certain I messed up a few springs, and I definitely bent the retainer. Is there a source for just those parts? Thanks.
Thx for the video. I think I mentioned to you I have to redo the cylinder in my 09 Canyon. The OEM Cylinders (I found) don't come with springs, wafers, or clip. I think the cylinder is part number 89022372.
Excellent tutorial on GM, thanx! 1 question: Why don't you lubricate the wafers before inserting them? Is the lube intended only for the cylinder bore? Thanx...
No, there is no need to lube each individual wafer prior to inserting, that would just make the assemble process messy :) The tube they include is to goop it onto the whole cylinder after assembly before insertion
when did Briggs & Straton change? looks like pre-1996 style gm locks I still pin kits will it work? great video! thank I tired in 1988 from locksmithing!

Did anyone hear and understand what he was saying? I'm needing to decode my key to a new ignition lock cylinder and I couldn't understand a word because he wasn't talking to where I could hear him. Mine is a Saturn LS1 non transponder key made by GM. Someone please help me.
Funny how all the comments are like WELL EXPLAINED yet you couldn’t understand a word? You should probably try to find a local locksmith to help you, Saturns are the worst concerning ignitions & keys
while i was watching this i was thinking i don't see people use keys anymore for their cars and its just a matter of time before the same thing happans for our homes. no more keys its all FOBs in the future with a key backup built in for emergencies.

I also figured out, the installed lock is not the correct one. This one works off a gas cap key not the cylinder key.
