      It takes skill, but not that much. Same goes for every instrument; I am a pretty garbage guitarist but I can still play most songs. That being said, it is also true that you can be incredibly skilled in your art, and the specific nature of that art does not matter. I knew a guy who was a master barber, and he was able to produce a level of precision that my admittedly crude measurement system could not match, and he did this with just a comb and a straight razor from the late 1800s.

    Likely the most laid back lesson on TH-cam. Very clear and concise.
    As a side note, I find that the TC Electronic Bodyrez really helps bring out the full tonal quality of such percussive techniques, especially in a live situation.

    Awesome lesson man, been playing electric bass for a fair few years and wanted to learn something different. A lot harder then I thought doing both the percussion with one hand and playing the bass with the left at the same time, will definitely have to keep practising.

    I can't drum the body of the guitar due to arthritis in my hands but maybe a stomp box . I had a dream in the past where I had such great coordination I was playing the bass guitar and a drum set at the same time on a street corner and was making a killing . Only in my dreams can I be so gifted but I guess that is what dreams are for . In my dream All my drum pieces were custom to where they all had pedals to play them .

    • @DmitryLisenkoBass
      @DmitryLisenkoBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Personally i prefer basses with a bigger body. That way you can get much deeper percussion sound. But you can start from anything really. To master the technique any acoustic bass will work. And it's not about the bass, it's about you, guitar is just an instrument, and you are the music.

  • @bremccune
    @bremccune 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you need to make any modifications to the Warwick to get that smooth tone while tapping? Just asking because I am struggling to get a good tapping tone out of my ABG, of course it is just a cheap Dean starter ABG. I'm sure my issues stem from the ABG model, setup and technique. So I'm shopping for a new bass, and now that I am subed to you I hope to work on the technique, but any advise you could give on set up; bridge/nut height, string gauge etc. would be great.

    • @DmitryLisenkoBass
      @DmitryLisenkoBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To get a smooth tone you don't need modifications, tone is inside of you , not in the bass, you know ,great musicians can take cheapest guitar and get a beautiful sound out of it. it's not about stuff, it's about person and work behind him. You only need modifications to play more comfortably and to fix few issues when you want to plug your bass. The only thing i would suggest is to lower you strings, that's way it's easier to tap on it. Other than that experiment and search for your unique sound

  • @sheepmaster8985
    @sheepmaster8985 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the lesson Dmitry :) i get an acoustic bass and slowly i play more him than the electric one, and thanks to this tutorial i can practice a bit percussive technique.
    What strings do you reccomend for percussive tech? i have bronze now but i see a bit of acoustic players using the steel strings too, what's the difference?

    • @DmitryLisenkoBass
      @DmitryLisenkoBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You welcome. Don't afraid to experiment, try different strings. for me bronze is a bit too harsh. But it maybe perfect for your style. There is no right or wrong answer

    • @sheepmaster8985
      @sheepmaster8985 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dmitry Lisenko thanks a lot for the tips, i come from power metal symphonic (a lot of tapping and technique) i'm trying with bronze now but i will try some steel and nickel as soon as possible, it is normal that the sound at the beginning isn't so much? I need to connect to the ampli for gig with someone

    • @DmitryLisenkoBass
      @DmitryLisenkoBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it's the hardest part in all percussive style, to get good sound when you play live :) there are so many things that could go wrong :) And acoustic basses are very quiet, they may sound loud when you play alone at home, but they are not loud enough even when you play with acoustic guitarist. So you need amplification. And nickel string are softer, which is good for tapping.

    • @sheepmaster8985
      @sheepmaster8985 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dmitry Lisenko Thanks again :) you are amazing, i hope to see you live in Italy someday
