- Where did you get the cable shroud/hider? Or did you 3D print it yourself? :-) - Im really considering the Arctic accellero 3 instead og the 1080ti msi gaming x shroud currently on my ncase m1 build, it gets really toasty and loud. Are there anything i should be worried about, when changing the cooler? (Besides warranty..) PS. Amazing content :-)
1. Would you consider doing an M1 custom loop with an external rad/pump/res setup? Do you think this defeats the point of the M1? 2. At Computex, could you give In Win a visit and ask what the heck happened to their wooden cases? Pls. They were so mint.
Another reason your CPU runs cooler with the fans as an intake, they're taking in room temp air pretty much directly from outside of the case and pushing it through the heat-sink fins. Whereas using them as an exhaust they've moving the warmer ambient air from inside the case and pushing that through the fins instead.
OK so i've been watching a bunch of PC hardware video review channels lately and i really have to say, you are at the top of Set prep/layout/lighting, mic quality, and just leagues above in editing quality. Keep up the good work man, This is quality stuff.
Your camera angles, the plant, white background, music, and good scripted review reminds me of Hardware Canucks, you're up there as well man, you deserve more subs
I have that 1080ti with this setup using Corsair ML120 fans and my temps max out comfortably under 70c. Insane temps. If you can get hold of a discontinued NH-C14 it does better than those two coolers. Draws air in from the side grill and covers a larger surface area. This is still the best itx case out there at this size. I haven't seen anything come close yet for air cooling.
I would recommend trying the Noctua NH-C14. It should provide even better cooling. The CPU and case fans would act as intakes, while the fans below the Arctic Accelero would handle the exhaust.
This is what I have setup. The NH-C14 is much better for this case than both of those coolers. I've tested all three and I think the reason for this is because of the larger surface area the C14 covers and that the fan directly draws air in from the grilled side panel.
Outstanding! I really appreciate the emphasis placed on performance, thermal, and noise analyses, and CAN'T WAIT to see you drop a 9900k in and give it a go.!
I watched a few tech channels that build computers and the choice of music is solid here. I will quickly stop watching a TH-cam video the moment I hear some crazy obnoxiously loud music. Tons of channels that do that. You are to be commended for professional video production.
I just built my first mini itx pc with a RTX 2070 super triple fans. When I took my pc to a friends house I was able to fit the computer in my backpack and that blew his mind when I said I got the pc in my backpack. Can’t wait when SFX power supplies, 2tb nvme and am4 Rog mini itx motherboards become cheaper. My x470 rog motherboard costs £60 more than when I bought it.
I prefer the brown fans 🤷🏻♂️ Perfect build. The only thing I’d add is a magnetic dust filter to the ceiling of the case. It would make it look more premium and stop the dust of the roof of the case being pumped in
The Redux fans are not meant to be mounted onto heatsinks, their airflow is not directional enough. You're gonna need more rpm to achieve the same temperatures. Yes, I have learned this the hard way.
I am glad I stumbled across this video. I have a 4790k and I was having some trouble with my CPU nd GPU while gaming. I got the u9s and two static fans on the bottom and CPU dropped by 20 degrees and GPU dropped 15 degrees. On my end it made a big difference.
THANK YOU for doing this with a powerful chip in an ITX case and air cooling. It's exactly what I'm looking to do...an i7 with Noctua air cooling. Might go ITX, maybe mATX. Most who do ITX either use an i5 or liquid cooling, neither of which I'll be using. (I don't trust liquid coolers, as cool as they look.) I'm more than happy to pay an extra $100 for a case I want. I'm buying the thing once to have in my home for hte next 5 years. I'll splurge. Lol. That extra $100 or whatever I won't miss in a month for what I want...what looks good or great. For what it's worth, I don't game and won't be over-clocking. The gpu will be just enough to power a 34" curved screen for streaming - so probably a 1050 or 1060...something light...just so no load falls on the chip.
I would love to do this but my Asus B350-I motherboard has double-stacked rear-IO with interferes with the second redux fan. Love this build! That accelero cooler for the GPU and two bottom intake fans is a neat idea also. Well done!
That is some really big differences in temperatures, it really seems strange. I have both the Noctua NH D9L and NH U9S both with two NF A9 fans. Testing them out on my Ryzen 7 2700X @4.125GHz at 1.38v there is only 2°c difference between those two CPU coolers.
I KNOW RIGHT? i think he may have forgot to apply thermal paste or something. it really is odd. he U9S generally performs slightly beter. but that's about it.
Hey Optimum Tech - Loving your videos! Do you have any plans for testing the Thermalright Silver Arrow 130 CPU cooler in the Ncase? I've been told it is the better solution. A review comparing results to your current solution (Dual fan U9S) would be very helpful, and also enlighting for others. Your efforts are much appreciated, thank you!
What a great cooling solutions you mentioned! If you don’t mind to make a short video about the best cooling solutions when considering build a computer with the NZXT h200i in terms of the VRM temperatures and the GPU. As the case doesn’t have a room to mount fans from the bottom and AM4 ITX motherboard still not adequate yet regarding the VRM. Thank you very much keep it up can’t wait your next video
I would be curious to see you try out the Noiseblocker Black Silent Pro 92mm fan. It's static pressure is much lower but it's from a fantastic company and looks the best. Where did you get that cable shroud? Great video too! Loved all the different variations
I think that the best aircooler for the Ncase still is the discontinued Noctua C14. I am running my 7600K at 5ghz stable with just two Noctuas nf12 in the sidepanel and C14 as heatsink for the cpu. Am using an founders edition gpu, aka a blower.
Did you considered be quiet! Dark Rock TF 162,6x140x130,8 mm (130,8 mm high) or Noctua NH-C14S which is 140mm but you can put fan underneath and then is high 115 mm (on the top you can tray to put NF-A12x15 PWM which is 15 mm tall - 120x120x15 - I know this is 120mm and not 140mm but maybe you can fit fan on the top). They have much higher TDP (w) than noctua NH-U9S. Thanks.
Thanks for another awesome video! I see two types of nf-b9 fan tho. A 3pin and a 4pin, do you know which one is right for this build? Also do you have to buy the clips to mount them on the heatsink separately?
This case and build looks dope. I also watched your liquid cooling build. I'm considering this case but with a Ryzen 7 since it's cheaper and then liquid cool it with the Kraken. Also choosing between getting a used 1080ti or an rtx2070 since they're similarly priced at this point. It'll mostly be used for gaming but I want the extra CPU power for when I do a little photo editing, spreadsheet-ing and basic coding. Thoughts?
About that accelero xtreme. Have you tried 3x 92mm high quality fans? I know the stock fans were 92mm but they were garbage. Three 92mm fans would cover the whole length of the accelero, and also there'd be less fan blade hanging over the edge of the cooler, which would be beneficial as fans move most air at the tips of the blades.
Thank you for doing this video. If you stick with air cooling you might want to pop back on your mesh side panel and try out the Be Quiet Dark Rock TF.
ITX systems tend to run cooler as the GPU and CPU has their own intake vents while ATX builds tends to have components drawing air circulated inside the chassis unless the CPU and GPU are liquid-cooled. Even bigger ITX cases like the metallicgear neo mini and Thermaltake core v1 runs cooler than ATX cases
If you didn't have a TG side panel you can add one side intake fan, use that cooler and add one small 92mm exhaust fan and have a cooler running system.
smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/case-study-air-cooling-inside-an-ncase-m1.2562/ Have a look at this. That's where I got the idea. You might wanna test it out. Good luck! And keep up the great videos. Love your content.
You should get some of the new Noctua A12x25 fans too, they're friggin amazing. I'm currently putting together my review for it and it beats everything at being the best fan no doubt about it.
The only draw back I can think of is that you're fighting thermodynamics. How much of a difference it would make to exhaust at the top I'd be curious to know.
i think for system this small, it is required to report the overall temperature of other components too. mini tower cooler is great for overclocking headroom but it doesnt blow air to m.2 ssd and vrm. i can imagine all the heat build up in this case trapped in the front area.
I have used the nh-u14s and nh-u12s and on anything overclocked 8700k and under it is super close to a nh-d15s and a little less close if you add another fan and make it a nh-d15 but for there size they have impressed me noctua seems to make some amazing coolers now if only they bundled them with there chromax stuff as that gets fast. patiently waiting for a nf a12x25 to come out in black sometime next year to stick on my u12s. originally had a large phanteks cooler that was pretty close to a nh-d15s but there was no way I could vertical mount my gpu with it so I downsized and have ended up maybe 1-2c less which is amazing
I always loved small form factor PCs Never tried a miniITX because of higher temps but I want to try a microATX (maybe the NZXT h400i), using a dark rock pro 4 (unfortunately they are not sold in my country)
I forgot to ask you, do you have a datasheet for the length of the custom cables? While I'll won't be building anything soon I'd like to see at least which are the measurements for this particular case.
Is this still the cooling configuration you're using? Have you tested the Noctua NH-C14S? I've seen a lot of posts on r/sffpc saying it's the best cooler for the NCase M1.
I have the same case, cpu and a gtx1080 with the same xtremeIII cooler. I must though correct you in terms of the best cooling setup. I have a nzxt x52 (240mm) as intake on the side. Running prime at 5GHz 1.345v I max out at 83C now, with the pump in silent mode and fans in perfomance. It is better than yours hehe, but I understand your choice due to the modded glass side. Tomorrow I will delidd the cpu to see how much further I can push the cpu hehe :)
hey man! great content! love your sff optimizations! just curious if you've tried or can try a noctua nh-c14/s on that build and whether it'll better or worsen airflow in the case, since it'll kinda splash the air multidirectional.. anyways, just a thought!
Hey bud! Great video. I will be changing from my H75i to the U9S and my Hybrid 1080 to the Accelero to be able to mod the case to a window. Do you recommend this?
did you try the Phononic HEX 2.0 CPU cooler? it's a a peltier/ thermoelectric cpu cooler for small form factor cases. maybe worth checking it out... if you can find one, I'm sure it will be quieter..
Just to clarify the B9 and A9 were run at their max rpm respectively? If so i would be very interested to see what the temp difference if with them running at the same rpm since the B9 looks airflow optimized rather than pressure. Also, this 8700k is delidded and metaled no?
I wonder if heat dissipation could further be improved by getting taller feet for bottom of the case? Say 1/2" to 1" taller? Curious to know that may improve heat dissipation. It looks like some buffeting could occur as is(not saying it is, but wondering if it'd make a diff). Would be an invasive way to further test as well.
Neither of these configurations are ideal. The best possible air cooling solution with Accelero is the OG BIG AIR C14 build with 3x120mm intakes and two exhausting 120's. The best currently available setup, other than AIO, is the C14S with Accelero exhausting. Have one 120mm fan under the sink in low profile mode blowing towards glass and one rear 92mm intake. Yep, glass is actually better than vented. Results can be found here: hardforum.com/threads/ncase-m1-a-crowdfunded-mini-itx-case-updates-in-first-post.1717132/page-690#post-1044059941
M1 - Thanks for the advice. How are noise levels? For my use, I most just web browse and stream music - though I do it all day, fast as I can, and have a ton of windows open. I'm planning on getting a 9700k or 9900k, 16 gigs ram - maybe 32 if it'll help, and enough of a graphics card to power a 38" monitor well. So I don't plan on being able to tax/throttle the thing to save my life. I'm thinking my temps and so fan noise won't be for squat. Not sure though. That'd be a great form factor to use if I can. Nothing against a full size tower, though. Considering the Fractal R6 - I want a Blu Ray/DVD drive in there. For me it's about noise and looks in that order.
hi! would love to have your advice for a pc build im planning to get soon. thinking of getting lian li tu150 as my case and either nocturna nhd15 or nhu12s (plus 1 same extra fan to make it push/pull). i would like to follow your recommendation for the cpu cooler as push/pull from the rear case as intake. then add 2 more 120mm fan as exhaust at the bottom of the case under the gpu (nvidia geforce rtx 2060). if i add another 120mm fan on the front panel of the case, as intake obviously 😁, will there be problem in temp or it will be better? im not sure if too much intake fans placed too close to each other in a case like lian li tu150 would worsen the temp or would be better. sorry, not even an intermediate to these things. thanks for the time mate. keep safe.
Do you think a Tempered Glass Side Panel on the NCASE M1 with the Accellero on the GPU and the U9S would significantly impact the temperatures? Im asking since im planning a similar Build to yours.
I've got a question on what you believe would be the best option for me. I'm currently running the same cooler with the three redux fans (two on the cooler, one on the case) and a stock RTX 2060 from MSI which i believe is running as intake without any additional fans below it (I do not want to get the Accelero cooler) Would you think it'd be better to change the case fan/two cooler fans as intake rather than exhaust? Is there enough ambient exhaust with all the ventilation from the top? @optimumTech
Hi, I'm looking forward to build a new PC with the Ncase M1 but with an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and a Radeon RX 5700 XT by Gigabyte with their custom cooler. Now I wonder if it's still a good idea to have two 120 mm fans right under the graphics card. I also would like to ask if in that scenario it would make more sense to use the CPU coolers as exhaust and the bottom two coolers for intake.
I got an right angle power cable adapter b/c I hate how the power cable comes out the top of the case, now the right angle adapter guides the cable down the back of the case which is ALOT better.
@7:52 To clarify, you have both CPU fans running as intake (taking in air from the rear) and the bottom fans of your de-shrouded GPU are... running as exhaust? (pushing air out to the bottom/table) Would the temp be different if you are using two bottom fans as intake? It seems this changes for you later on or depending on cases...
Wouldn't mind doing a quick Q&A before I fly out for Computex this weekend - drop your questions below!
- Where did you get the cable shroud/hider? Or did you 3D print it yourself? :-)
- Im really considering the Arctic accellero 3 instead og the 1080ti msi gaming x shroud currently on my ncase m1 build, it gets really toasty and loud. Are there anything i should be worried about, when changing the cooler? (Besides warranty..)
PS. Amazing content :-)
Would you say that changing my EVGA GTX 1060 6gb FTW out for a FTW3 iCX 1080 ti is worth it? my cousin is selling his for MSRP.
A second hand 1080ti for MSRP? No way, its second hand lol
1. Would you consider doing an M1 custom loop with an external rad/pump/res setup? Do you think this defeats the point of the M1?
2. At Computex, could you give In Win a visit and ask what the heck happened to their wooden cases? Pls. They were so mint.
Optimum Tech how is that MSI monitor that you had? Are the colors as good as the x34 Predator?
why is this channel so small? you put so much effort to these videos... possible one of the best channels, and definitely one of my favorites. :)
@@fayenotfaye just got back into PCs after a year and it was a nice surprise to return to

I didn't think the U9S would make THAT much of a difference; darn it's a massive difference!
I can't believe it's already computex season already can't wait to see the videos on it
OK so i've been watching a bunch of PC hardware video review channels lately and i really have to say, you are at the top of Set prep/layout/lighting, mic quality, and just leagues above in editing quality.

omg the amount of b-roll. keep on grinding my man
Your camera angles, the plant, white background, music, and good scripted review reminds me of Hardware Canucks, you're up there as well man, you deserve more subs
As a proud owner of two Ncase M1 v1 cases I salute you on your fine build. Very well done. (two thumbs up)
Nice dude, I used its narrow ILM brother in my NCASE. Works like a champ
I have that 1080ti with this setup using Corsair ML120 fans and my temps max out comfortably under 70c. Insane temps. NF-A9 is gorgeous. Massive difference in cooling.

Clock speeds on CPUs are immensely relevant for gaming. My 8700k OCed to 5.2ghz outperforms the stock setting with boost by about 20 percent.
Thankfully the U9S is now available in black :)
I am glad I stumbled across this video. I have a 4790k and I was having some trouble with my CPU nd GPU while gaming. I got the u9s and two static fans on the bottom and CPU dropped by 20 degrees and GPU dropped 15 degrees. On my end it made a big difference.

Finishing my Ncase soon.
Need new a couple fittings since it is full custom.
Nice. Yea glad I went with the u9s over the d9. Def the best cooler. Wish they had the a9s in grey.
big shuriken 3 is now the champion
You should try the Raijintek Palla 140 mm, not the new 120 mm
I think that the best aircooler for the Ncase still is the discontinued Noctua C14. I am running my 7600K at 5ghz stable with just two Noctuas nf12 in the sidepanel and C14 as heatsink for the cpu. Am using an founders edition gpu, aka a blower.
really great quality videos. congrats
Thanks for the infos and the effort to push this up
I’m seriously considering returning my Alienware Area 51m for one of these SFF builds... and this one in particular looks most appealing.
Now you can use the NF-A9 Chromax black fans for all the people still dropping by to watch.
Did you considered be quiet! I've seen 2x 240mm rads in an M1 so "ultimate" might be a stretch.
Also. Tan Noctua's look great.
Really cool rig though, dude.
Would be doing a review for the new ncase m1 v6?
I did one myself but I was hoping to see one from him. But I do want to see the v6.1 it’s suppose to be really nice.
Thank you for doing this video. If you stick with air cooling you might want to pop back on your mesh side panel and try out the Be Quiet Dark Rock TF.
What keyboard are you using? I saw that 60% compact black keyboard on your desk
ITX systems tend to run cooler as the GPU and CPU has their own intake vents while ATX builds tends to have components drawing air circulated inside the chassis unless the CPU and GPU are liquid-cooled. 77oC is impressive indeed for 5Ghz! Its not really any worse than a 360 aio. Unbelievable cooler.
That is a beautiful machine. I will have to pick up that case
You won't regret it one bit
If you didn't have a TG side panel you can add one side intake fan, use that cooler and add one small 92mm exhaust fan and have a cooler running system.
Hmm, I'm not sure it would though, I think it might mess with air pressure and direction.
Could be worth a try though!

Have a look at this. That's where I got the idea. You might wanna test it out. Good luck! And keep up the great videos. Love your content.
M1 case has plenty room for dual 240 setups easily.
try a4 case with water cooling now.
You should get some of the new Noctua A12x25 fans too, they're friggin amazing. I'm currently putting together my review for it and it beats everything at being the best fan no doubt about it.
The new Noctua A12x25 fans would be good for exthaust? (Arctic Accelero Xtreme III / bottom position on my NCASE)
Sorry for my bad English
On the way! Should be here Monday.

The only draw back I can think of is that you're fighting thermodynamics. How much of a difference it would make to exhaust at the top I'd be curious to know.

Glad you enjoyed!
I forgot to ask you, do you have a datasheet for the length of the custom cables? While I'll won't be building anything soon I'd like to see at least which are the measurements for this particular case.
The D9L is such a good looking heatsink, the performance increase definitely seems worthwhile with the U9S but it’s a small downgrade in aesthetics.
I somewhat agree, but the U9S is growing on me
best itx build for gaming editing for about 1000 considering current prices? By the way, congrats for exceptional work!
Is this still the cooling configuration you're using? Have you tested the Noctua NH-C14S? I've seen a lot of posts on r/sffpc saying it's the best cooler for the NCase M1.
Can you test Noctuas vs Be Quiet fans? Those black fans are awesome
Thanks, and definitely
Man your videos are Neat
did you try the Phononic HEX 2.0 CPU cooler? it's a a peltier/ thermoelectric cpu cooler for small form factor cases. maybe worth checking it out... if you can find one, I'm sure it will be quieter..
You should take a look at the BeQuiet! Shadow Wings or the Silent Wings in the 92mm form-factor! They look quite good and perform amazingly [quiet] :)
I'll take a look, thanks!
Are you able to squeeze in another 120mm slim or 92mm slim fan at the 'exhaust' fan slot?
unneeded overkill
Great Info! Thanks for doing this
No problem and thanks :)
Just to clarify the B9 and A9 were run at their max rpm respectively? If so i would be very interested to see what the temp difference if with them running at the same rpm since the B9 looks airflow optimized rather than pressure. Also, this 8700k is delidded and metaled no?
yes, it's delidded, he clarified in an earlier video
What would be the configuration for a Radeon VII? I'm currently running two A12x25 noctua as intake on the bottom.
I'd be interested to see if inverting the case impacts on the overall system temps.
do you sell the plans for your PSU cable box? I'd love to have that in my build.

For me it's about noise and looks in that order.
hi!
would love to have your advice for a pc build im planning to get soon.
thinking of getting lian li tu150 as my case and either nocturna nhd15 or nhu12s (plus 1 same extra fan to make it push/pull). i would like to follow your recommendation for the cpu cooler as push/pull from the rear case as intake. then add 2 more 120mm fan as exhaust at the bottom of the case under the gpu (nvidia geforce rtx 2060). if i add another 120mm fan on the front panel of the case, as intake obviously 😁, will there be problem in temp or it will be better? im not sure if too much intake fans placed too close to each other in a case like lian li tu150 would worsen the temp or would be better. sorry, not even an intermediate to these things.
thanks for the time mate. keep safe.
I like the intro!
Thanks!
Do you have a massive improvment aswell while gaming? Wondering if I should upgrade my D9L to the U9S.
Doubt it. As I said, no point in stretching the 8700K to 5.0GHz if you're just gaming.
Enabling Multi Core Enhancement is enough imo.
Will you be making more of this glass panel??
Would you create a customized water cooling in this case?
With the radiator and fans installed would you still be able to mount the 92mm exhaust fan?
I need that monitor, damn.
I believe the C14S is better than the U9S - just a little hint
Will you consider getting two 92mm noctua black chromax fans?
Maybe take alook at the phononic hex 2.0 TEC cooler around that size.
Do you think a Tempered Glass Side Panel on the NCASE M1 with the Accellero on the GPU and the U9S would significantly impact the temperatures?
Im asking since im planning a similar Build to yours.
Delta AFC0912DE P2780. Only a tame 6000rpm :D 160CFM 92mm fan.
Are both of your redux fans blowing to the back of the case?
@Optimum Tech I dont get it. Why is a D9L cools so much worse compare to U9S? I thought they are tied, considering similar looking dissipation area...
I got an right angle power cable adapter b/c I hate how the power cable comes out the top of the case, now the right angle adapter guides the cable down the back of the case which is ALOT better.
Could never bring myself to run my fans at 100% all the time. How are the noise levels with these?
@7:52 To clarify, you have both CPU fans running as intake (taking in air from the rear) and the bottom fans of your de-shrouded GPU are... running as exhaust? (pushing air out to the bottom/table)
Would the temp be different if you are using two bottom fans as intake? It seems this changes for you later on or depending on cases...
Is there a subreddit for small form factor PC builds like this?
