@Michael Farrell: Thanks! Yes, that plastic end piece by the rear does go back on the roof. See around 3:50 in the video where I mention reattaching it. Sorry that wasn't very clear. Good luck!
I have factory installed roof rails. Installing after market racks and noticed that the screw holes on the rails are not aligned. There seems to be a cover for moving those rail mounting points but I'm not sure and I don't want to be aggressive with those covers. Any ideas?
@Mike Kojoori: I would double-check that each rail is installed exactly the same way, using the same screw holes on each. That way you can be sure that the rails are aligned. Reverse the process shown in this video to remove and check each rail. Good luck.
Hi, I noticed the cross bars are screwed right into the holes on the inside rails. Questions: are the side rails made of plastic and strong enough to hold the cross bars? I am thinking of putting 2 bikes on top, are they sturdy enough to carry them?
@J Tse: Thanks for your comment. The rails are strong enough. I have put 3 bikes up there without any problems. Just make sure you stay under the weight limit. The instructions indicate that the "weight of the cargo must not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 75 kg (165 lbs)."
@Jay Ubamos: Near the beginning of the video when I’m pointing to the installation instructions, near the top of the screen you can see a portion of the instructions that notes the maximum cargo weight is 165 lbs.
@Edgar Inductivo: I'm sorry, the instructions that came with the parts did not specify the bolt sizes. You might be able to get that information from the Honda parts department at your local dealership.
@Perception Management Inc.: not with these specific rails and I also wouldn’t do that. It’s probably designed the way it is to distribute the potential roof load on the B pillar and the rear, instead of at the front closer to the windshield.
@ToaPohatuNuva: It took me a minute to realize that you must have noticed the orange plastic "tool" I was using to lift up the back of the rails. It just happened to be handy and it worked. Looks like you were really paying attention to the details.... ;) Thanks!
Thank you for your video. I bought the parts for my 2015 CRV, but one of my roof rail is missing the two nuts where I would screw the cross bars. Does anyone know where I can buy just the two nuts that are part of the roof rail. I already have the cross bars with the two bolts, but can't attach it to the roof rail since the nuts are missing. Thank you!
@@xavierdiaz1829 I got OEM (part number 08L02T0A110A) and was shipped from a Honda Dealer. I also bought the OEM cross bars. They both didn't come with instructions. and I didn't realize the missing nuts on the roof rail, until I was trying to install the cross bars.
what cargo box did you end up getting to work with these crossbars and not interfere with the antenna? I installed the same crossbars. Thanks for your video.
I use a Yakima skybox 16. It grips to the slim crossbars on the Honda but also on older round crossbars. I also use Yakima Frontloader bike racks. The antenna is easily unscrewed by hand if it interferes with your roof box. Or you can let the roof box bend it down. I’ve done both.
I have a 2021 CRV with a similar rail bar to the 2014 model and I use a Thule bike rack it fits perfectly no issues not sure about the ski rack though.
Are the rails made of aluminum? The description from the dealership claims aluminum but watching the video I can’t see no aluminum. Do you know where the aluminum takes part in the rails ? Thanks awesome video btw
@evelyn pardo: Thanks! From what I can remember there is metal in part of the rails (running front to back of the car). But the silver color top pieces are metal-colored plastic trim. I believe the metal is underneath. The crossbars are black powder coated or painted metal. Hope that helps!
@@shaneadair6079 : that’s all the info provided. I’d have to remove it to manually measure otherwise. Did you buy the rails from Honda parts dept? If so they should be able to provide you with replacement screws.
From Honda these are in the $550 price range (for both rails and cross bars). I purchased non-OEM from eBay (US seller) for $150. Installs the same, looks great, and works as it should.
Check the slots where the bars fit into their end pieces. They may be snug, but the bar should be able to slide in and out of those end pieces to accommodate slight differences in width between the rails.
@Heather Solimine: I think it still goes through Honda directly if you want to order OEM Honda parts. For example, you can search for parts at estore.honda.com/honda/customer-home.asp, but it still directs you to specify a local dealership for picking up the parts. Good luck.

Great video. Excellent filming. Super helpful. And I appreciate the space invaders reference....so true. Thank you.

Thanks! Really informative, especially the rail install and removing plastic strip
@DJ O: Glad it helped!
This was exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!!!
Great video, thanks. I used metal snips to clip the channel cover
How did your cuts come out with the tin snips?
Joey Dino it was a nice clean cut. The rubber is surrounding a flat thin strip of metal
What else can you use to cut it? Don't have power tools
@Taylor Rasmussen: MAYBE, possibly, a fine-toothed hacksaw suitable for cutting through metal cleanly.
Excellent video thank you!
Great video. One question: the plastic end piece by the trunk, does that piece go back on the roof or does the new rail cover that area?
