Taurean Livermore Obviously they practice more than the football 🏈 team ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But seriously they do . Most of the best 🏈 players choose Alabama , LSU , OHIO , ARKANSAS etc bc they think they will have a better chance @ scouting .
Thanks for putting it all into perspective. Based on all of the videos I've seen, the UGA fans gave a resounding standing ovation for the band's performance. Well, whether they really liked us or not, at least we got paid. Adios.
Not to beat a dead horse to death but my curiosity is getting the better of me. You said all you had to look forward to was the performance of Southern's band. So you all were aware of Southern's reputation nationally, that we've performed at several Super Bowl, Sugar Bowls, Inauguration and Radio City in New York and that the Dancing Dolls performed as back up dancers for Madonna when she performed at the Super Bowl? If so, how was this done - in the Newspapers perhaps? I just assumed they might have a blurb about them in the game program, but did not really expect more than that since a we are not in your conference. So was there a lot of Media hype about our band ahead of the game?
Well, I said that going into the game, the only highlight was going to be seeing the Southern band, which to be perfectly honest, was a little bit of an exaggeration. I mean, of the 95,000 people who were in Athens, GA that day to see the Georgia vs Southern U. football game, maybe 400 of them were there because of the Southern band. Georgia people were there because It's Saturday in Athens, UGA football, and tailgating. And truthfully, 30,000 of those fans probably didn't realize we were playing Southern University and not GEORGIA Southern University, since both schools were on our schedule last year. This is the kind of game were people come to Athens early in the morning, tailgate for 5-6 hours, go to the game (if they haven't passed out drunk back at the tailgate), and then leave at halftime when Georgia is throttling the overmatched, smaller school by 30 points. They either drive back home or head to the downtown bars to party for the rest of the night. Most people don't even stick around to watch the opposing team's band because, who cares? In the SEC, it's all about tailgating and football. That said, UGA's promotions department made a little bit of an effort to promote the fact that the Southern band would be performing and would be worth sticking around to watch. This promotion was mostly limited to a a few sentences at the end of an article previewing the football game itself. It would typically read like this: "These UGA guys are hurt and won't play, these guys are now healthy and probably will, expect these this running back to play real well, and the defense to dominate. UGA should win by 50+ and that stadium will probably be empty by the end of the third quarter. But fans should stick around for halftime, at least, because the Southern band will be a huge treat. Go Dawgs!' So, media hype, no not really. It's all about the football. To be honest, here we are 9 months after the game and I'd wager that if you mentioned the UGA vs Southern football game to a group of knowledgeable UGA football fans, the first thing they'll remember is Southern player Devon Gales breaking his neck during the game, rather than the halftime performance by the band.
@@deantatedawg I think your memory may be just a tad fuzzy on this one, my friend. *The RED & BLACK* did a full dedicated article to the Jukebox. There is nothing bigger than Saturday football in Athens, but there is never, EVER a situation where 90,000+ don’t move a muscle at halftime & almost everyone was on their feet in anticipation. The anticipation for the band’s arrival & performance was quite palpable leading right into halftime. Let’s give due credit & respect where earned. #GoDAWGZ #GATA #SU
I'm curious, why were we playing the University of Georgia? Was this an exhibition game or something? We don't normally play them do we? Southern was great though.
@@deantatedawg yes Our 🏈 team Sucks ! The Band members are the Big Dogs on Campus and they have a Military style of training that sends many literally crying and running home to mommy and daddy just during summer band camp . I have seen it . The really good 🏈 players usually don’t choose HBCUs . They Choose LSU , Arkansas, Ohio, Alabama etc bc they think they will have a better chance of being scouted . Game time = Concession/ restroom time & 1/2 Time means 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hese folks really appropriate the performance HBCU bands. So soon crazy, I don't why black fans started booing the perfomances of rival marching bands. These folks don't do that. They are really in awe over the performance of bands like SU, Grambling, SOD(Alcorn), JSU, etc

I'm curious. it seems like the crowd really liked us. There was another TH-cam video in which the fans both black and white were practically begging us to come back. So why wasn't Southern asked back for the 2016 football season? Was it a little too much for the audience - our style of performance? Just curious.
Purely a football decision. Other than our traditional rival Georgia Tech, we rarely play NON-SEC teams in consecutive seasons, especially teams from smaller conferences or lower divisions. Southern was the first HBCU we had ever played. Most of our fans hate playing those games because they aren't competitive, and arguably unsafe (Devon Gales injury, for instance.) Our kicker, normally one of the smallest players on the field, was bigger than many of the Southern players. Scheduling Southern last year was likely a once in a lifetime event and bringing your amazing band to Sanford Stadium to perform was a huge bonus.
+Gretchen King To be perfectly honest, I'd say no. "Disappointed" would be the wrong word. Our focus this year will be on the performance of our football team, especially since we have a new head coach. Most Georgia fans won't care who performs at halftime, so long as the football team plays well. Interest in watching other teams' bands just isn't a huge priority for most UGA fans. Last year's game was different, mainly because seeing your band was the only highlight we had going into the game.
To sum it up UGA is a MAJOR nationally recognized, competitive, football institution! While I'm sure they thoroughly enjoyed the JUKEBOX it certainly wouldn't break there hearts to never see them at Sanford Stadium again. The band only matters at HBCU'S! Schools like LSU, UGA, TEXAS A&M, OSU generate millions of dollars in revenue yearly! At an HBCU, they're lucky to have $100,000 in the budget for the season. Lol
Such energy and power on the field and especially in the stands. Amazing sounds! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I was there and I’ve never heard a band sound this loud. I was like OMFG!!!
Taurean Livermore that’s power 😏
My daughter’s school . But I have loved them since I was a Middle School Band Geek .

$$$$. UGA needed an easy tune up game for early in the season. The opportunity to bring in your band for entertainment purposes was an added bonus.

Who's the tune up game going to be against this year?
Two Louisiana teams, actually. Nicholls State after our first game, and Louisiana-LaFayette before we end the season against Georgia Tech.
