God yes. This exactly what has happened to me on multiple machines that are in my storage. 15 years to try to fix though is a record. The 1987 Philips VHS machine that i junked on my YT short with a hammer and a glint in my eye was in my collection for 4 years and multiple attempt to get it to run. Yes i got it working but it continually broke till an unobtanium chip died after 2 days of intensive fixing. The relief of getting it out of my life was palpable

I've had those gold-coloured Roederstein caps like the ones in the PSU randomly fail short, as do the brown plastic ones that B&O and a whole host of European manufacturers used at the time. With the latter, they tended to crack and let in moisture much in the same way as the RIFA X2 smoke bombs! Naturally, being of much (much!) lower voltage they just lost capacitance, shorted, or went o/c.

The FM429 was the last V2000 Model sold by Siemens in the late 80s. I Owned one of these. It's exactly the Grundig 2280a Model.
You could connect a remote receiver unit VIF-E2 (placed an the right of the recorder) or a tranceiver unit that worked over the TV IR receiverunit.

Yes I'm aware that it's a badge engineered 2280a, itself a rare model.

Hy Collin, With these Caspan, it's hard to get a stable image. The magnet is broken. Also check the cables on the " Ablaufsteuerung" again. They also like to break.

At 2:02 this connector is the "Service Buchse" and is not only used for IR-remote control, also a camcorder or some Grundig TV-models can control the VCR, it was used for servicing the vcr, if there were faults on the databus (I2C-Bus). This connector was used for "future options" like VPS (video programming system) in GB called PDC (programme delivery control), I guess. A similar connector have early Philips VCR's too.

@@video99couk If it is the VIF3, it could be modified to a IR-receiver. It is very similar to the VIF-2E (IR-)adaptor. 😉

Hello, interesting content as usual. I've got the Grundig version of this machine in the collection which I've not worked on yet but I recall it's full of brittle plastics and yes I've got a snapped flag! JVC HR3000/Ferguson 3V00 series with head connections the wrong way round gives no colour from what I recall.

  • @lorevids_
    @lorevids_ วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Oh great, so your flag has snapped as well... I have 2 of these, a grundig 2280a and a Revue equivalent. They were sold off at the end of the format war, for 499 guilders in the Netherlands. I took mine apart a few weeks ago, and I barely touched the flag and it snapped. Great idea with the baked beans! Definitely gonna try that.

The condition of this VCR is really very poor. It looks like it was stored in a damp basement. Is there the frontlid and the metal cover for the mechanics missing? Maybe this is the reason why the insulator for the "Ablaufsteuerung" is missing too. Very interesting video! I am looking forward to seeing part two. 🙂

Hi Colin. I'm not sure if I missed you trying it, but there is a switch in the very bottom left corner under the control flap. It looked like it was switched off when you were testing voltages. I had the almost identical VHS version of this year's ago (it's probably still in my loft).

@@video99couk Glad I could help, even if it wasn't the magic answer to make it all work. I do vaguely remember having a similar issue with my VHS version where all the display segments would light up and nothing else would happen, and if I remember correctly it turned out to be because the backup battery had zero charge even though I had replaced it. I think I removed it, charged it and put it back in, then it sprang into life. It was a lovely machine, the only VHS I ever had with direct drive reels. I might have to go up in the loft and see if its still up there!

Err I think you missed the standby switch on the front, bottom left. It was set to off, visible when you showed the bottom of the machine.
You just say my 2280a is crazy rare as well (I have a SVR4004)? Shame the video heads popped out, I don't even know how that happened, I slipped with the screwdriver and hit the head drum which wasn't spinning at the time and even though I didn't hit it hard, both heads just plopped out and my heart sank somewhere south. I installed another machine's head disc, but well LP, but then again I never use LP and none of my tapes have LP recordings on them. Another problem it has is that the head drum shaft lubrication is spotty and the head likes to go into oscillation every now and again leading to a wavy picture. But hey, it works. Don't have too many V2000 machines that work.
Hey - my 2280a does have the remote control receiver.
Should I try poking holes in the control panel? I've once found a model 2000 (3rd gen Grundig, don't know the exact model) that had Reverse Slow Motion as an unlockable feature. It was jaw-dropping, especially with action movies. None of the other 3rd Gen Grundigs had that feature. That machine also had a switch mode PSU.
Ah yes that mike socket has phantom power, I have a Grundig condenser mike that uses that. They are actually semiprofessional microphones and make good recordings.
I used to put the flags back on the video head by melting them with the soldering gun and maybe melting a piece of stiff wire into it and its base for rigidity. Sometimes I would use random bits of whatever had a similar shape if the flag went flying because young me was careless with the slip ring adjustment again. Never had heads pop out though. Only on the 2280a.

Why do you keep switching the thing off all the time? Power it up let everything reform and then do voltage readings and if the thing blows up it's been sat for 15 years and you've lived without it so far so you haven't lost anything.

Just let you know that I watched your video and you are wrong. Grundig brought out the.
Grundig 2×4 and the 2×8 models the 2x8 models looked similar to the one on the video. The difference is it was the standard bray graphite colour on the front and the buttons looked different and to tell you the truth. It looked better than the 2×4 models another difference is that the grinding version of the 2×8 didn’t have the stereo. Hi fi.
I had one when I was 18 years old and I loved that machine. I wish I never sold it even to this day. I still correct it and wonder where it is now probably recycled., when I had the 2×8 it never went wrong at all very reliable and advanced for the time it came out. You could set the timer to record programs in advance up to 1 year but can’t remember how many you could program in but it was more advanced than the Phillips version.
It was a nice looking machine two..
